Are ASOIAF miniatures any good? 

Let me give my perspective on things, as a middle aged gamer who has been around the horn, and spent a *lot* of money on minis, particularly those from Nottingham. With CMON, you are paying around $1.50/model, they come preassembled, include the rules cards, movement trays, and you are playing them within 5 minutes of opening them if you so choose. With GW models, which are a joy to work with, you are going to have anywhere from 2-5 hours of assembly PER kit, and are paying closer to $5-7/model, with some being as high as $16/model. If you want the detailed "high res" models that GW offers, their games are perfect for that. But ask yourself this: how many hours of actual enjoyment have you gotten for your money from GW models? As in, what's the cost per hour? For me, with the constant shifting sands of rules updates, I have spent between $5,000-$10,000 since early 2018 on Age of Sigmar, 40K, Kill Team, Underworlds, etc, etc, and have *maybe* played 6-8 games *total* in that time. Now, compare that to Warcry, one of their better skirmish games. I bought a used starter set that was already assembled, and mostly painted. The units include cards, and the game plays in under an hour (starting to sound familiar?). I have played 6-7 games of that in under 6 months. I still have GW miniatures. I have always wanted to try AoS, and their recent starter set was a great value access point for me to get a decent sized Ork army on the table. I expect this will take me all of 2022 to get on the table. I also have some 40K Orks that I am not sure I will ever get to. Now, you may ask, why am I considering ASOFAI? Because I will *play* it. For $100, I can get an army *on the table* that night, and play some light complexity rank and flank wargaming, while telling some jokes, some lies, and maybe some adult beverages. I will also still buy GW models. And for $100, I will get a box and a half of models, maybe 12-15 total, and they will get added on to the pile of shame, and hopefully the rules will look familiar by the time they are painted and ready to play!

the miniatures are cool. for example Ramsey is what i pictured from reading the books.

I'm loving these figures alot more than others. They don't require assembly which let's me jump right into painting. I can email you some units I have finished. Tonight I literally just finished the mountain and his men!

I'm pretty big into various wargames (40K, Kill Team, Various Osprey games, Konflikt 47, etc) and I don't understand the hate that these models seem to be getting. Detail is great and the fact I don't have to spend time building any of these just adds to the time I get to actually play with these things. Great video, count me subscribed!

I think these miniatures would actually be great for Mordheim warbands.

I think they're quite good. They're among the first mini's I painted because they were so detailed and they came out very well!

I find it funny that you say ASOIAF isn‘t a grim, dark universe, while part of why people like it so much is exactly that it IS - compared to usual fantasy epics.

These models are much better than warhammer. Played it for years. The design of these is second to none. They get the blend of realism, fantasy and heroic/comic book. It's an absolute triumph of design if you ask me. An I do have design qualifications. They have spades of character and soak up the flavour of the source materials. I have painted two warhammer army's an when I look back the model's are static and oddly proportioned. Some go for real world an later models were bizarrely cartoon. The weapons were always far too big an were prone to bending and breaking. If they did not drop warhammer. This game would have burried it. I'm amazed at the quality they put out at the price point. The game system its self is simple but so thematic and tactical. This is the game I wanted from warhammer. Anyone who remembers flicking through those rule books for tables every other turn will really love this game. Workshop were trail blazers for sure but this is definitely a top class refinement. I would not go back.

Im really into game of thrones rn and i started warhammer 40k and minis in june this is pretty cool like TWD ones i like the hit tv show minis imagine sopranos

'Not a grimdark universe'? Kind of the grandfather of grimdark, actually.. It's not a high fantasy or sci-fi universe, that's for sure.

Love the game and painting is fun but on some models there is melted plastic and warped plastic even in some cases broken models in a unopened box while it is not hard to fix I believe it should be taken into consideration

I hate the fact that KOW always gets left behind. The game is much better and has a bigger fanbase than warmachine and legion!!

How do they compare to reaper bones or whiz kids are they the same size?

Just started painting up this set. Im pretty happy with the minis. Mold lines are minimal and detail seems great.

Quality of the models is below standard when compared to games workshop of warlord games miniatures. That said, they are also cheaper than games workshop stuff. Miscasts can be expected with this style as well (one of my guys was missing his face)
