In other words: We’re not children anymore and nostalgia doesn’t help. Don’t get me wrong, the games could be better but other than not really adding content, the games are just fine. I had far more fun with these remakes than I did with Sw/Sh

Just because a game is disappointing does not make it objectively worse. The negative opinion on BDSP is formed by the fact that expectations were so high. When you remove that, they're not any worse than original DP.

I think they are because they were $20 more expensive for the game, Metroid Prime Remastered did the same thing for $40. If this were cheaper i would agree but it was a marked up version of a DS game on the switch.

@StrawHatMidas well that's more of an issue with nintendo being able to overpirce remakes because they know people will buy them. It seems that the metroid prime trilogy is one of the only times it's not the case and probably because that's series doesn't usually sell the best. Not that this makes it better but so long as remakes sell they'll keep doing it

I do find it hilarious when a Poketuber puts BDSP bottom of a tier list then puts DP high despite all of BDSP’S problems come from DP, hell most of the problems in the original are addressed BDSP is DP smoothed out it’s the better way to play base DP but I understand why you’d play Platinum over it

Yeah, it's better than DP in almost any way... but it could've been way better, especially if it hadn't ignored improvements from Platinum. Seriously, what was the point of not including the back button on the Poketch? It's a very minor problem, but it represents a core issue with the whole game.

@@StrawHatMidas Using pricing as a criteria is a little problematic because you either disconsider the effects of inflation (if you consider the release prices) or availability (if you consider current prices). Even though most of the game is copy paste, BDSP is still a remake, not a remaster and should be treated as such.

Let's not forget the fact that half of the game is on the day one patch. In other words whenever the Nintendo switch eShop servers shut down or you play the game right out the box with no internet, you are only stuck with 55% of the game!

If price point is the main reason for that statement, then I don't think it's fair to say sw/sh are better if you need to pay 30 dollars to make it true. Also cuz personally I'd take bdsp over Scarlet and violet any day for games that can run properly lol

The reason why the game cost 60 dollars is because of the brand just like clothes. And just like clothes they will have it's price increase because so many wanted it, despite the quality being the same as it's cheaper counter part. So the market itself is to be blamed and mot just the company that made the game.

Imo it’s cause they’re remakes WORSE than the originals the overworld feels “sticky” for lack of a better term with getting caught on corners being super common. Not huge on the art style either and platinum is better than BDSP. How do you make a remake WORSE than the original? And this is coming from an advent gen 8 and 9 defender. Gen 8 isn’t bad it’s just the least good. There’s a difference! Gen 9 is a great game that’s jank and laggy. But BDSP? Genuinely horrible games. The only Pokémon games that are genuinely bad games. Also upcharge for a “visual upgrade” the upgrade part of that is debatable. Even the underground being “better” is debatable. Yeah there’s more Pokémon variety and that’s great. However they GUTTERD secret bases. So it’s a trade off at best.

Just finished playing PLA a few days ago, been playing pk since gen 1 and I have to disagree with the majority of people for PLA; that game was boring AF. Its a catching simulator with a minor story. Definitely overrated and not worth $60, maybe 40 max. Really hope ZA isnt another version of PLA.

BDSP was more designed for players like me, old school genwunners that never played the OG games and wanted to try out a newer game that looked like the older games we grew up with. I never played DP so BDSP was just fine for me and honestly blew me away. I knew nothing about abilities, nature's, contests, a battle facility, nothing going into the games. I know this is hard to believe, but if they made this giant game with all new stuff like yall want, they'd be alienating newer fans and even older ones like me. So they split the experience into BDSP and Legends Arceus. If you want something new, you play thay game, if you want something familiar, you play BDSP. Bc GF did this, both games sold just as well together as any gen game. Usually remakes don't sell well so they took a different approach here and it worked really well imo.

There's so many things wrong with this video but I stopped expecting hugh quality critiques of BDSP long ago. For starters, good on you for acknowledging the fact that ILCA developed the games instead of Game Freak like people still do in big 2024. Misspelling aside, that is. Second, the game being a fauthful remake is not at all a bad thing. Look at how ORAS was unfaithful with its drastic changes to Hoenn and simplifying dungeons. Third, don't act like ORAS did more for Emerald because of an hour long epilogue that lets you catch Deoxys at the end of it, because outside of that? Nothing. No Battle Tent, no Mirage Tower, not even the Battle Frontier. Fourth, the game being upcharged has more to do with the Switch being more of a home console as handheld games were never priced over 40 even on 3DS. And lastly, remakes never followed a pattern or formula as evidenced by the one after ORAS being Let's Go Pikachu & Eevee. There was never a guarantee that Gen 4 remakes were gonna follow suit, and honestly? That's not lazy or cutting corners, that's circumstancial. If Game Freak made the games, people would be pissed because the hate for Sword & Shield were still lingering & people wanted them to be outsourced. Can't say they didn't give you what you wanted. Look, I know BDSP wasn't the ideal remake you guys wanted, but that's not the fault of the developers or TPC deciding to satiate the fans by giving something resembling a remake so they wouldn't hate the return to Sinnoh being a trip to it's past. I enjoyed it very much & am willing to admit it's what brought me back to the series after Sword & Shield initially disappointed me. And my point of it not even being the worst games still holds true because Ultra Sun & Ultra Moon exist as a reminder that true laziness exists.

Yeah, ILCA made the game, but GameFreak oversaw them and was probably responsible for most/all the terrible decisions, like choosing to remake the original games rather than Platinum or not at least putting in the simple to implement Platinum QOL features, considering the quality of the games ILCA worked on before and released afterwards. Like, compare BDSP's foibles to SwSh's and SV's (or even Legends: Arceus'), and then compare them to One Piece: Odyssey and Sandland, which don't even seem like they are in the same generation of gaming as any of the previously mentioned games.

My friend only needs a few more mons to complete the living Shiny dex for Johto and Hoenn. 🙂 Those mons ARE available in BDSP. But he really doesn't want to buy them. Not even secondhand. He's still looking for someone who can lend him a copy for around a month 😅 Btw, I think GO is worse than BDSP.

I am so tired of people whining about these games. They were perfectly good, and them being the best selling Pokémon remakes proves it. Many people experienced Sinnoh for the first time with these games. They were more than just "visual upgrades". In addition to the improved Underground, we also got challenging boss battles (not just the E4), for example. Also, nice work spelling "ILCA" as "I-C-L-A".

@@captaincz5763 More like it wasn't judged nearly harshly enough if TPC thought that it was acceptable to release a game in this state in the same year that Shin Megami Tensei 5 and Monster Hunter Rise released on the Switch. People need to stop preordering Pokémon games (and preordering in general) or buying them at all until they release in states acceptable of first party games in the most profitable series in the world. Just wait for reviews, and if they aren't of a reasonably high quality, go play any of the plethora of high quality JRPGs already available on the Switch, or whatever other console you have. Heck, there are more non-Pokémon monster collector games on the Switch than there are Pokémon monster collector games, so you can find a high quality alternative for pretty much all of them, unless you're primary goal is competitive okay since Pokémon probably still wins on that front for the 1ish% of people who are there for that.

As a long-time fan that cannot *stand* how slow Gen 4 is, BDSP beats DP purely on that basis alone. I never managed to beat a Gen 4 game because of how unplayably slow it all was

I rebel for Christmas I got a switch and bd game and I only started playing the game 5 weeks ago because in the first 3 mins I stoped from a bad art style in my opinion whoch is why I only started playing a few weeks ago whoch I only decided to play because arceus wasn’t shiny locked

It’s problematic to ONLY review a game as a remake rather than just looking at the organic quality of the source material since some people may never of played it or only played it once 15 years ago and be experiencing it relatively fresh with the convenience of modern hardware. Fundamentally I just liked the return to the older gameplay flow where you’re not spoiled with a million Pokemon ,crazy linear routes and slice of life anime vibes . But also, the post game VGC style elite 4 do over , and underground , were pretty dope

These were the very first Pokémon games I ever played and after the slight disappointment of Scarlet & Violet, I straight up bought some DS and 3DS Pokémon games instead and they are incredibly fun.

I found myself so beyond frustrated with these titles. I wanted a nostalgic experience while having my mind blown. Instead we got a shallow experience. I hate to rip a game apart so much because there’s a team behind it that worked really hard, but it’s so hard not to when these games were so profoundly awful.

I sincerely doubt that BDSP's issues were ILCA's fault rather than GameFreak's, considering that GameFreak was overseeing them and ILCA subsequently released One Piece Odyssey and SandLand.
