MARK, questions for you and the boys: - If you could only have one adventure bike what would it be? (Im guessing Marks would be the DR) - If you could have 2 adventure bikes what would they be? One for long distances, black top and dirt roads. And one for the harder off road stuff eg cape york, simpson, most likely trailer the bike to the destination. (Im guessing Angus is happy with his 1090 and gasgas combination) Keep up the good work! 🍻 Lukey

Ideally, every shed needs two bikes. One, your bigger bike, like a GS/1290/Tiger 1200, and then an Enduro bike set up for big trips, like the 500 EXC. all bases covered, and don’t have to compromise with the middleweight class, where everyone keeps dithering with “oooh it’s a bit too heavy to do proper off road” or “my DRZ is shit on the highway” the bigger bike is for mostly highway trips and gravel, and the 500 is for everything else.

for sure, have a 23 1290 sar and ktm 500 excf, and really if in doubt power out. Also my ktm 500 excf has 28000km, 450hrs, 15-20hr oil changes.

Curtis from On The Back Wheel is a wild man. He takes big bikes on some gnarly tracks.

The new KTM 790 is made by CFMoto and is around $17k. I think we dwell to much on weight and just need to find a bike that we are happy to ride within our limits, most adv riders are only on gravel roads and have no interest in going full on, so those who want to go full on are not the majority in Australia’s population imo. Also check out Oldman speed he rides a Pan American 👍🏻

i own a cfmoto 650mt enjoy it taken on gravel roads with that hump in the middle of the road where cars dont drive over. I want to own a bmw gsa 1200 cuz it doesnt make me look like ive bought a tiny bike.

@@AussieTrucking I was never into the GS until the 1300 came out and I kinda like it.

T700 side stand switch can be bypassed by just joining the wires.

What about a centre stand men. Can't believe bikes are coming out without them.

Beta offers "Made To Order." The customization options are pretty awesome, but you pay for it. For example, as a short rider, I could get 2" lowered suspension, and a low seat, with the proper spring rates for the suspension.

nah....the closest to unicorn in middle weight is the Tuareg.....it's a rocket with low CoG and great suspension, brakes and electronics...

Hi folks , with regard to touring bikes back in the 70-80's we travelled on shitty dirt roads. Now I've got a BMW R90, which is now my daily ride and every thing else including riding dirt back roads on a regular basis.

Guys I like your thinking but I think the >200kgs is too low for heavy/large class. I would suggest the following: >220kgs = Large capacity/heavy >180 - 130 - 260kgs is fucking nuts

Greetings to all; This has been a fantastic discussion on the Heavy and Middle Weight Adventure Bikes; At the end of the day, the type of bike is relevant to the Rider and what they want to do with the bike....I Fkn loved my Tiger 900GT, it did everything I wanted and more...I think CF Moto and Kove' have become good bikes at a fair price and its aimed for the Touring Rider. Its that classic trade off between road use and off road use... Thanks for the mention and I like Santa Arnaud ....LOL... David.....Triumph Street Scrambler.....MG V7 Stone....

Dry weight is such a useless number. What does one manufacturer consider dry? No fuel. no engine oil, no fork oil, water in the battery? I don't ride a motorcycle dry. List the damn curb weight fully fueled and ready to ride.

Dry weight is a better comparison as fuel tank size varies too much

Guys by disabling safety features as a requirement of law in relation to vehicle registration you would be braking the law. Therefore the makers are not allowed by law to be able to disable any safety feature by law.

With the access to the air box happens due to the way they put the bike together on a production line.

The suspension on the new BMW 1300 GS actually raises and lowers, based on terrain.

I've recently gone from a gs to a xl750 as in England we don't have that much off road , I do go across to Europe a couple of times a year and adventure bikes are the most comfy and capable touring machines out there

The greatest users of bikes are around 70-80kg. Also suspension is mostly an outsourced item when building. My bike is set to 80kg due to the pace I like to ride at and I prefer a bike up in its stroke

I know where most people come from when they select an adventure bike.. quality, reliability and cost. But if you are a dirt bike rider as such.. we are all tarred with the same brush. Performance, reliability and then cost.. there are only a very few in the world that put adventure bikes thru their capabilities.. it's that 80/20 rule (rider/ machine). If you were to believe all the hype, they would have us believe we could conquer the world...... I buy on passion.. styling. Performance and passion for the brand.. who gives a flying fuck about the why.. adventure bikes never get liter, only heavier.. I have seen the desired riders in this place. They all love what they do. I would be more interested in how riders developed their skills to ride such big bike's. What issue's that had to overcome in design and reliability...

Why do we talk about suspension when most of the adventure people have no idea. We talk about the legends of the sport. They are so far removed from reality they should not even be brought up

22:40 then define dirt. Theres sport bikes that have been modded to do dirt. are we talking trails that have fallen down trees middle of nowhere or going up a mountain that allows 4x4 cars on? cuz ive taken my cfmoto 650mt up one and it was capable. Your talkin about skill aswell not just how the bike preforms.
