Great vid! upgrading from my 10+ year old canon 70d & am used to working w/ blackmagic, so i’ve been watching tons of these to see peoples’ footage and deepen my echo chamber.

Good video! I think the Sigma 18-35mm is pretty bulky for my travel needs - I have been using the Canon EF-S 24mm pancake lens. Recently got a M1 iPad Pro to review footage on go.

We recently went to Rome and Turkey. Took the 6K rigged with cage, sigma 18-35, 2Tb SSD, used a big battery rigged to my pants and shorts belt to keep the wait down and used a long camera strap so I could sling the rig off of my shoulders. Was able to walk up to 8 miles seeing all the sites without any problems. The only thing is it draws a lot of attention. While in Rome I wasnt able to take it into the Forum because they thought I was a documentary film crew. But was told at the Coloseum I could bring it inside there. Left in the room and used the new Iphone 14 Pro in cinematic mode. The other draw back is all the rain we encountered. I used a backpack raincoat. The Iphone was nice as I could just whip it out in the rain. I was able to shoot all the Turkey trip on the 6K but half of Rome and all of London was on the Iphone. Luckly I did back up shots with the Iphone just incase something went wrong on focus with 6K. The depth of field is better with manuel focus on the 6K. Wish I could have used the 6K the whole trip.

All so true. Biggest problem with using these as a travel camera is that if you rig them. They gather way too much attention and people start asking questions, plus they’re just too big, 14 pro with cinematic mode is quite nice however, very convenient!

One great thing that has helped me to keep my P4K to a minimal, is for example using an articulating arm with a very bright Feelworld ext monitor attached that I can even mount at the bottom mount point (for low shots) or just ditching the ext monitor altogether and just brightening/intensifying my focus assist lines on the native monitor which I can see even around noon sun, and using one good NP-F 770 battery which will give me at least 2hours of continuous shooting. No cage necessary as I can use the top mounting point to anchor my NP-F battery. And that's it. Indoors my native monitor is easy to see, so I rarely need the Feelworld and I can act like I'm using a photo camera. Also 4k footage is a lot easier on storage. A 250GB CFast will fill up very slowly compared to 6K footage and using my false color function to maintain detail in the shadows like on the 6K, while protecting the highlights, I can achieve the same quality of range in both the highlights and shadows ( admittedly I didn't think that was possible at first) then you add a good wide lens with ibis, and a camera strap and there you go. Hardly any rigging necessary on the P4K. It took me a while to find this setup but once I did, never needed to do it any other way. I also use a zhiyun gimbal at times and use its native focus wheel which works very well with electronic lenses so no ext focus rig needed. And my external monitor can be rigged onto the Weebill-S' side mounting point and I use one battery to power both the P4K and the external monitor and I still get 2 hours at least of shooting time. So as a travel camera, can the P4K be a good camera, for the most part yes, but knowing how to work with it well will make all of the difference. Unlike it's bigger 6K Pro counterpart of G2, you will have to think about keeping everything to a minimal, and using focus assist very well and the false colors tool. Also knowing your ISO's well will also prove very beneficial. Hope this helps for P4K & P6K (1st gen) users.

Great video! You showed the gyro stasbilization in Davinci. On another video it was mentioned that the gyro data might help with rolling shutter, too. How is your experience regarding rolling shutter?
@DesignedbyKirk

Cheers! I’ve never noticed any issues with rolling shutter, but I tend to not do any crazy movement when panning left and right

Those shots in Vietnam are nice. Make me wanna go back and visit 👍 I’m shooting with LUMIX S5 now but thinking about switching to bmpcc. The main concerns are the stabilization and low light performance.
@DesignedbyKirk
@DesignedbyKirk Год назад
The S5 is awesome, great camera and smaller for travel. Low light I’ve had no problems with, just need to dial in the right settings, stabilisation is the biggest drawback though

Excellent video. Been looking to do more travel and have the 4K. I will say its not that bad for travel. Biggest limitation is the screen IMO. Everthing else is workable. But the 6K Pro has been in my amazon cart for months. May pull the trigger.

Awesome vid man! I'm coming from a long line of Lumix cameras and still have problems getting rid of those horrible micro jitters. I have tried the camera strap to neck trick but I still can't seem to get the hang of it. I see some people walking with the BMPCC 6K Pro and then stabilizing with gyro and it looks buttery smooth... any insider tips? Should I lock up my arms or keep them flexible?
@DesignedbyKirk
@DesignedbyKirk 4 месяца назад
Thankyou! Truth is if you watch all my Videos they’ve all been shot or 90% at least on my 6K Pro, and I don’t use a gimbal all handheld. Breathing is a huge factor I always deeply breathe in before doing slow pans and it makes a big difference, that plus testing out Gyro + perspective stabilisation and see which performs better is huge too. Keep the camera close to your body, practice, shooting in HFR also helps a lot if it’s necessary for shot.

I think handheld with it is fine, ive never needed a gimbal. I started with a huge rig bur realized I like it better run and gun. For travel id probably grab an fx30 and a couple sigma lens.

Absolutely, I love the camera, and not a fan on spending more than I need, in this case, if you were JUST getting a travel camera, I'd probably look elsewhere

I love my BMPCC4K but in the future if I can pull the trigger on a 6K Pro then I think this video is the reason my opinion was so easily swayed lol. Ya the battery is craptastic but I have a battery grip so if I wanna go cage less and try to lighten the load then I don't see the battery life as an issue. the screen tho ach
@DesignedbyKirk
@DesignedbyKirk Год назад
Yeah totally agree, despite the size, I think the 6K pro is the closest of the four to a mirrorless experience

600gb is fine for a travel video. You have 1tb memory card ;). I have 6k pro with 500gb memory card and a 1tb ssd for backup that I bought before my memory card. Sometimes i regret purchasing the ssd because memory cards are so much more convenient to use with the bmpcc6k pro. Especially when travelling, but also for stability because you can use both hands on the camera body.
@DesignedbyKirk

100% those CFAST cards are so helpful! Much better and more secure then having the ssd on the outside

I know this got nothing to do with YOUR video, that’s a lie. It hasn’t got much to do with your video; this video and especially the old car analogy made me accept that I should probably wait a couple of years and buy a camera that’s actually made for beginners and allows me to experiment with photography in addition to videography before I lock in on a more advanced camera. I love the way the footage looks, it’s kinda my dream camera and yea I do mainly want to focus on video but I also want to try photography and record my self without worrying about being in focus or having basically no money left for a lense. Thanks for that I guess!
@DesignedbyKirk

In the end I think it comes down to what you’d like to do with the camera and accepting the fact that the camera isn’t easy to use like others. I’d really consider the LUMIX S5ii as a beginning camera, its fantastic
