Bro you rated the NF higher on warmth by 2 points than the CG, when the test showed that actually CG kept your internal body temp better by 0.1°C. I don’t get that.
I've had both 12+ years and I like them both. The North face Mcmurdo is a more useful temperature range and better pockets. The goose is only -20 and below and when you need to stand around a lot as it's so pooffy it's more difficult to do physical work while wearing. I payed 250 for the NF and 475$ for the resolute in 2005.
Ps. I wouldn't spend 1400 plus tax on a jacket for work. Canada goose used to be the working jacket of the north but sold out their arctic heritage for a fickle fashion.
You also need to consider other factors as for the higher price like offering a lifetime warranty and being manufactured in Canada as opposed to TNF being manufactured in countries like China, Bangladesh, Vietnam etc.
in clothing business , first level sales mark up is 7 - 8 times , that means you pay that ( not on sales ) clothes in Big Name store all your money go to their profit ( almost ) , it is why we normally see ( on sales items ) can have 30 - 50 % deep discount . ( even in half of the price company still will make good profit ) . after all , this is how clothing business lives !
@@Nick-jp8ux @ you means Canadian not doing any works ? you don't know that even they are Chinese , Indian or Vietnamese workers they can be legal Canadian now ; no more related with that shitty China , India or Vietnam ?
I prefer Canada Goose, as it smoother on my Gold and Platinum Rolex… No, but seriously. No coat is warm, you put any garment on when you are cold, and the jacket will just insulate the cold. It’s best to put the jacket on when you are warm, as your warmth is what makes the filling warm. You are then insulated from the outside cold. Layers, and a hot meal, is what makes you warm. The jacket just insulates. My German Army Issue ‘Parka’, which was made in 1977 and I bought in 1986, from a Surplus shop is just as warm as any of these, with the correct layering. Think I paid £8.00 for it. Apparently, it’s ‘retro and trendy’ now, too. All the best.👍🏾🇬🇧
Some of the best parkas are made by a small British company called Shackleton. They have some expensive stuff but it’s quality, construction, materials and design are top tier. If you really need some next level cold/weather protection I’d look there. Still, I mostly use a down lawyer with a goretex technical shell. Hard to beat.
I ordered a McMurdo online, tried it on, and returned it today. My true size is Medium, but the medium fit more like a large or XL. Really strange sizing, even when considering layering under it
I think that's common in Parkas honestly. I have a Carhartt Parka, and Columbia Parka, North Face Parka, and I'm 6ft 220lbs and I wear an XL in everything except Parkas I'm a Medium haha. But my other Columbia jacket is an XL. And my regular North face is a L.
Its not often that North Face is considered a bargain. Here's where I have a problem with both jackets and their pricepoint (North Face less so) 600 fill power is about the starting point for warmth insulation. Fill power can exceed 1000. Canadian Goose is 625 Fill power, and 80/20 down/feather distribution. Honestly, this jacket shouldn't cost a fraction of what it is with these specs. The REI Stormhenge Down Hybrid Jacket is on sale for $154.93, waterproof, windproof, 850 fill power goose down with a mix of synthetic insulation. The Parka version is on sale for about $20 more, just a parka fit alternative (and of course different color options). Personally, I wouldn't go with either unless you absolutely need this warmth with additional layers. The best way is a base layer, warmth fleece or synthetic warmth layer, high fill power puffy and rain parka. You essentially create a 2-in-1 with rain/wind protection and warmth, and a waterproof/windproof parka amplifies the warmth of a puffy jacket. One important thing to keep in mind is you should never wear a down puffy jacket in the rain, always cover it with a waterproof shell, and should generally never get it wet even from sweat(which also req. special care for washing). This is the purpose of the base layer and synthetic warmth under layer. I personally have a REI Magma 850 down puffy (and a couple of others from other brands) and about 5 different rain jackets to choose from, but my favorite is probably my North Face Venture 2 in grey. I believe in this combo, it was something around $420 combined. Its a system and it just works. You can always peel off the puffy and compress pack it away or if there's no rain, shed the waterproof parka. I am originally from the upper Midwest (Marquette Michigan) which receives some of the worst winters in the US but I've lived in EU for about 14yrs now. This has been my experience of what is the best setup for extreme cold, but also cold and wet as it is here today in Belgium (~7C/45F but with the wind feeling like 2C/34F and both windy and rainy) which can be absolutely miserable if you have to be out in it.
The fill power doesn't mean anything if they use less of it. You can have 1200 fill power down but only put a sliver of it in the baffles and freeze to death. It's a marketing metric, not a real predictor of warmth.
depends on your needs/activity level. I don't do any activities anymore except walk to my car and office or store in winter. So to me even a North Face jacket is too expensive. I bought a really warm Columbia Jacket (water proof shell, and thick down innner jacket) for $160 at the end of the season. Whereas, twenty five years ago I bought a North Face Gortex Shell and thick fleece inner jacket that cost me $500.
To all you people that think Canada Goose is not worth it, try spending a winter in Minnesota, or in Canada or north of the 49th parallel. Yah its worth it.
Get a Eddie Bauer when is on clearance around Jan. Got my dad one last year for $150 keeps him warm and cozy during the snowstorm we had in Vancouver BC in Dec.
I own a North Face Gotham #1 since about 15 years. Was looking to update for the new model, the McMurdo, but the quality is now so cheap (no zip for the faux-fur hood, no outside middle chest pocket, interior chest pocket has no hole for headphones, sleeves doesn't have cuffs) that I'll probably go with another brand. It's sad that the North Face went that way with cheaper products.
You need to be comparing the McMurdo to the TEI4 rated and more popular Canada Goose jackets. They use a different fill in the TEI3 compared to the TEI4. The Wyndham is rated TEI3 and clearly not as warm. You were basically comparing North Face’s mid - high range parka to Canada Goose’s low range parka.
I just ordered the North face jacket for my boyfriend. He's usually a medium but I sized down to small since apparently it fits a but large. I'm hoping it fits him perfectly.
Idk why this popped up on my profile to watch, but it’s a good video. I own around 6 North face jackets and 2 are Mc Murdo style parkas along with a few summit series parkas. They are all good jackets/ parkas and served me well. I layer mine and they keep me cozier than most others. The Canada goose parkas are nice, but I am biased to North face from having them since I’ve been a teenager. Also I see the comments mention Eddie Bauer Parker’s. I used to own a ed tel parka and that was well made also and warm. I sold it over 12 years ago but can attest it was a well made jacket. Canada goose is definitely over priced imo c)pared to north face and other brands that provide the same goal of warmth
I quite agree with this test. CG definitely look way more stylish. Functionality wise - NF wins easily. CG is too expensive in my opinion (it is a bit of a hype at the moment).
I've had a couple northfaces supposedly the warmest ones and none have held up at all in extreme cold and wind , I ordered a pajar and it's the absolute best ,no wind goes thru and neither does the cold
One thing I learned, feels like to me there are two ways you wanna layer up. When your moving around, maybe just use the coat, along with your t-shirt. Since you'll be moving around and generating more warmth. Where how you tested it. Maybe adding a sweater would keep you warmer since your not moving around, if at all. Last thing you wanna do is over layer up and start sweating. All depends on what your doing I guess.
TNF $400 score 32 value 8/10, CG $1400 score 31 value 7/10. This guys doesn't understand the definition of value. Based on the 3x price and lower score, CG score have a value of
You have to look at the down and fill power as well, there duck’s and goose’s down and also the combination of down/feather such as 90/10 and most in the market are 80/20, and the fill power 550-700 is all you need depends where you live. A thousand dollars for a brand tag, no kidding.
I guess you couldn't conceive of the idea to mention where they were made. A jacket made in Canada will naturally have a higher labor cost added than your jacket that was made in Indonesia.
NORTH FACE is the Winner in all aspects . I bought ( mistake/ wasted money) couple more major brands & doesn’t fit perfectly like NF parka & short ( bummer style) NF balanced out the looks for guys below 6 footer . Totally worth it & looks great. True to size & machine wash & tumble dry with 4 tennis balls. Good as brand new. Puffy , nice. 👍🙏✔️😜❤️🇨🇦
Literally came here for the review cuz I just got my first CG jacket and am too paranoid to wear it cuz ppl getting mug in sketch areas, but then I got distracted with the wallet ad cuz I’m sponsored by Ekster too 😂
The only thing I would argue is the value of the CG. I would say 5/10 max. Value to me is price paid for what you get and CG is grossly overpriced. Take this from someone who has owned a jacket from both brand. I would say between a NF and CG rough it out for the winter with an old jacket and buy a NF at the end of the season for 50% off the always go on big sales at season end. If you go see a CG in person you will see the jacket isnt that special and the sad part is most of the canada goose jackets dont have goose down rather duck down which is inferior.
@@elvst3331 there was a sale price 30% off from the actual store. and when i got into the counter i told her to run the discount code from the north face main website.
One thing I didn’t not like about the north face is the fur ruff is attached with plastic snaps that are poor quality and come off very easily. I was not impressed with that.
When you did the warmth test you moved about this could affect your body temperature. I suggest next you stay put in one place to make the test more accurate.
great review man absolutely the best on youtube there is not much info on these expensive jackets... i would love to see a review of the mountain hardware absolute zero parka also the mammut photics insulated jacket!! i am completely stuck i dont know which to buy the prices are literally the same but completely different builds on both jackets. anyway i hope you see this and possibly consider this review in the future
I own two Canada Goose items ; a Chiliwack bomber and a Forester , I have yet to test them in cold . The CG are well made , but , North Face is better value for sure!! Looks like a Green Mcmurdo is a future purchase.
@@MensFashionFileshanks for reply . Keep up the awesome content 🙏🏽actually after visit to REI Outdoor Store abs trying the Fjallraven Nuuk in green that will be my next jacket .
4°C and already a need for parka? Most people wear a wool pullover or light jacket at that temperature scale, I am jogging with T shirt. I have got CG parka for 500 CAD in New Brunswick and it is used for -20 C and lower... always toasty.
Life time warranty on Canada goose. Done deal. On my third jacket after 14 years. Never have to buy another winter jacket again. Price worth it? YES ABSOLUTELY
So you are comparing a mountain jacket and a city jacket, and they don't have nothing in common, the thing that is most important for warmth is the volume and the quality of the filling, 600 and 625 are one of the lowest insulators, 800 and 900 are a lot better, and yeah, I don't think this is a very scientifical jacket review 😁
I feel that even if the Canada Goose is overall better for $1250 is way over priced, $700 would be a fair price in my opinion of course, the North Face is overall better even for the price and I agree with you, the North Face is a better choice plus saves me money as well. Great review.
Canada goose just has that "Styling" that looks cleaner and looks expensive. Both jackets will function the same really, I tried both and went with the Northface as I felt the fit was nicer for wearing layers.
Yep instead of wasting money buying 1 Canada goose for it to get stolen down the road. You can buy several jackets like North Face, Patagonia and stylish Ralph Lauren all made from different materials and style and have more versatility and still come ahead in price and spend less for all 3. North Face $200, Patagonia $300 and Ralph Lauren $600
@@fromthedeeps857 . The thing is is that the Canada goose is better for extreme cold weather like in Canada or Alaska, North Face is just right for any winter season depending on what you want it for, but the Canada goose will last you longer because of the price, the North Face is all around a better choice and will last you years too, money here is not the thing because the North Face is a popular brand, it is just a matter of convenience.
@@metallion0738 Its actually not better for extreme cold and heres why. Basically it goes by the down fill in the jacket as well as the exterior fabric. With northface you get the identically down fill and the same water resistance. The only notable difference is that Canada Goose previously had options for coyote fur hood trims, which is no longer the case. Even then, as I've already gone down this rabbit hole when purchasing coats for extreme cold, a fur hood trim could be purchased (In any choice of fur like rabbit coyote or fox) and youd be looking at maybe $100-200 for that from a shop. putting the northface ahead. Northface also has lifetime warranty and repair.
Canada Goose and North Face don't compare to Feathered Friends. Id get a Featherd Friends puffer and if you want to be TRENDY get an Arcteryx shell. FF uses only 900+ fill and much more of it than any other jackets on the market. Best quality and is rather overlooked.
Canda goose sadly only sells their name as many other brands do so.... for me north face does the job, and even $400 is a bit steep...lol according to my budget.
But Canada goose is what all the artic explorers wear and researchers, and they use a different type of Canada Goode jacket its more expensive then the one you’ve shown, problem with north face nowadays even tho they are a good jacket is every chav in the country is wearing them
The CG is NOT worth it. Own it, regret it, wish I didn’t waste the money. It’s freaking massive, literally will make you melt wearing it and the zippers are a pain to use every time.
Bro it not i am not agree with the result but at 0°C to 4°C it not cold enough to call that a result . Where i come from we do the test at least at - 20°C then you see how your jacket performs... And generally the temperature rating for most jacket it tested on moderate activity your test was with low pulse so your body doesn't product any heat. Maybe i am wrong but it look u never tasted the real cold weather.
Honestly dont think its that bad. I had way more puffy like the fjallraven, check it out here: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-c-btd2ym-gw.html
Canada goose one is clearly more stylish and has the brand cachet. That price tag though is unjustifiable for my personal use. I would buy for my wife though if she really wants it. Its like luxury handbags. Financially a horrible decision but yolo.
No. Sort of like buying a Hyundai vs. a Mercedes S-class. Both will get you where you need to go. But do you really need to spend that extra $100,000? I had an older mcmurdo before the neck gaiter. The hood was poorly made. The snap on faux fur was only good for flapping in the wind. It added nothing to the warmth. The hood also did not cover enough of your face. It was a terrible design. It was also heavy. Like 5 pounds? heavy. TNF also used cheap 550 down in this model. There was a lot of it, but you could see how small the down was when it leaked out.
in chicago in winter i wear a grey military digital poncho $80. never have i worn a jacket. i take cold showers i love the cold. my grandma trained me she was in the gorila army and said the cold is God it protects u from harm but control the mind. so wen i see this expensive dumb brands am like man wat a waste of this weak minded ppl. ppl say i just dont wna spend money but thats a lie since every 10yrs i buy a all gold OMEGA watch.
I do not own a Canada goose jacket or any of their products. From what I know people who own a Goose tell me its the warmest thing ever. Ive always thought, "well for that price you'd convince yourself anything". I do however own multiple pieces of The North Face. Recently I returned my 10+ year old North face resolve jacket ( rain/ wind breaker) to The North face store. After 10+ years of usage the inner lining material started to crumble and break. Signed a piece of paper, sent it out and few weeks later got a email from the company for $113 CAD. Exactly what I paid for it with the tax.
@@colintan1965 Lifetime warranty. Zero shame. Shame you're shaming people implying im taking advantage, monkey. Think the company and its customer came out winners.
@C You could do that but The North Face isnt in the business of dumb and if you value your time i suggest you not to execute your genius plan. FYI i returned a 10 year old jacket that i took care of...the exterior of the jacket is 10/10, while the interior waterproof/wind lining started to crumble and break apart on its own.
@C Right, because walmart was a great example and comparison to The North Face and ofc walmart has a lifetime warranty on its outdoor apparel like the North face where you could wear and use something for 10 years and return due to manufacturing defect.
Fuck Canada goose. I love northface, it's been my jacket choice for years. However I found a company that fits in right in between Canada goose and northface. Called fjallraven, it's a Swedish company. They make some really good jackets for about 5 to 700 dollars. They have become my new choice of jacket.
Canada Goose 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂 1/3 of them are filled with nobody knows what kind of part animals stick with the North Face people a reliable Company... for $600 and you will get the best jacket you'll ever find
People buy CA Goose or Moncler or other $1000, $2000 coats not just because they really need a warm coat, but because the brand and the price. If those coats are not over $1000 or $2000, they won't even buy them, got it? LMAO........
Canada Goose is way more stylish. North Face is great but it's clearly a winter jacket, while the CG is more fashionable. The best part is that it's made in Canada , which is a major reason for higher price compared to the made in Asia North Face.
