Are cheap action cameras any good for cycling?

Rule of thumb. If the chipset isnt listed in the cameras description then avoid it. A lot of merchants and retailers claim their camera supports 4k but it doesnt record in 4k. It records in 1080p *UPSCALED* to 4k. Cheap £30 cameras you find on sites like ebay, amazon, aliexpress, gearbest etc etc wont give you a full on 4k camera for that price. If the chipset is listed then google that chipset for its specifications. For instance 'Allwinner V3' comes on a lot of cheap chinese made action cameras that claim to be 4k. But the specsheet from allwinnertech says its 1080p@60fps maximum

Been lucky in my selection of action cameras, use Isaw & Apeman brands & they're great.

Any chance of that follow-up looking to see if you can get a decent camera for a bit more? Worryingly, I have been getting more aggressive overtakes lately. Didn't want to resort to a camera, but considering it now :-(

The Osmo footage is a lot better obviously but not that good really, quite wobbly, is it setup correctly ?

Good for a 16mm/super 8 cinema effect. I have an Akkasso camera for my bike. £50. Its excellent.

The footage from those two tiny ones made me feel ill. They're worse than CCTV cameras!

Sadly all action cam sensors are generations behind full frame full fat big boy professional cameras and even smart phones in video recording quality. Sensors these days should be at least 2 inch square with full frame RAW capture capability of 120fps in super high constant 24bit bitrate recording bandwidth with minimum pristine true 4K resolution. Mind you there seems to be a slump in all technology production with insane inflated pricing on all old dated stocks since this world economic plandemic greed disease begun.

If you really concentrate when watching the microcameras footage, you can see Big Foot and the Loch Ness Monster. I think I even so a gray alien running after a cow.

First action camera I ever bought was a wiimius from amazon warehouse in about 2016. It was £13 approx discounted from the normal price of £19.99 and was happy with it. Here is someone's cycling footage of the camera. It does have basic image stabilisation built in. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-IahtmdkcV6Y.html&ab You can get decent cameras at any price point (almost) but its a minefield of crap and spotting the decent products can be difficult at low pricing. I think today decent models start at about £35 but £60-80 is the real sweet spot for some very decent models. Handlebar mounts give rubbish footage, chest mounts are a fair bit better and head mounts perhaps better again unless you are someone constantly moving your head. If you use your head as a sort of gimbal reducing its movement it can be very good. I think testing the very cheapest products can give a false impression of the market you don't have to spend much more to get something worth using even if not delivering amazing results the results can still be good and worth using.
