I adoped a 8 year old chihuahua whose old man owner had passed away. I wouldnt take Molly back for the world I wish we would have had her her whole life. But she had an amazing owner who obviously spoiled her and took great care of her. I never had or even thought of getting a chihuahua prior to Molly. Now Im on here watching cute chi videos because this little old doggie I have has changed our minds forever.

Curious about the long nose over the apple head type. Have you been studying them? I don't have either, but think about it for down the road.

@@nealierose8794 Only reason is to avoid potential breathing problems that some have but also a lot don't have any problems whatsoever. Just do what I did and let the Dog pick you if you ever decide to get one but I never thought I would tell anyone to get a chihuahua 10 years ago yet alone have one.

@nealierose8794 Long nosed are “deer heads” cause their skulls resemble little fawns, and they’re less likely to have breathing/nasal problem because their nasal passage isn’t as crammed, eye pressure problems bc apple’s domed heads tend to be more prone to causing it cause for same reason as the nose (not that they can’t), and just most other problems apples commonly have in general, and while deers live 15-20 years on average, apples live = 12-15 on average. Deer are larger on average = 6-10 lbs and apple 6-9lbs. And the longer the snout, apple head or not, the better. But dome head and the pressure problems associated with that are kinda unavoidable if you’re going for apple, it’ll be prone to it compared to is deer counterpart. The dome head shape puts pressure on the eyes and can cause what’s called a “cherry eye” but just rubbing some Vaseline on/around it will make it go away in a few hours! MRegular vet visits, exercise, diet love and attention can make any live longer than their average tho! Hope this helps! I’m actually on my way to pick up my new puppy as I read this lol…. Unfortunately after my deer head of 17 passed away a few week ago in an accident. I wish you the best with whatever little baby you choose in the future! I love them for their sass, smarts and you’ll have a friend by your side for a very long time no matter which you choose!💕 And “teacups” just refers to size, it’s not actually a different breed (not are deer vs apple which just refer to head shape and about- some of which can fall in between). But I would avoid teacups as they tend to have the most health problems and shortest lifespans out of the 3 bc their bones are smaller and more fragile. Apple or deer, you want a chihuahua whose weight is 6-9 lbs. bc anything under 6 is a teacup. Breeders are obsessed with 6 and under bc the show dog associations are, but those are the ones that tend to have the worst life spans/health so shoot for 6+ if you want one who will be a friend by your side for a very long time! Teacups are also more likely to fall to injury because their bones are so petite/fragile compared to apple and deer in falls the other would be safer (not immune) to. Each being bigger than the last = teacup -> apple -> deer Always ask when adopting if their molera or “soft spot” has closed up! About half of chihuahua’s molera do but this hole in their head can leave them very vulnerable to head injury and even death if it doesn’t. Moleras occur to allow for the puppies to squeeze out their mother’s already small birth canal, which is why most chihuahua puppies are born C-section. Oh and watch out for the MERLE gene in chihuahuas, it can hide! I just found out about it myself! Look into it! It’s a gene that’s not suppose to exist/not naturally in chihuahuas but it has serious health consequences. Any chihuahua that has a parent with a “Merle” coat or blue eyes (ghost/cryptic Merle) has genes that cause an increased risk depending on which allele pairing (ex: MM, M/m, etc) of severe health problems, depending on how far down the line it falls in their lineage- the gene is a defective dominate gene rampant in the chihuahua population so it’s hard to avoid. I’d just do my research and be careful of it to know what to look out for! But if it’s far enough down the lineage it should be fine! Your chi should never cost more than $300-$1500! Even a Chihuahua with no Merle coat or blue eyes can be a hidden Merle but again the gene should be far enough it’s not a concern. Just another thing I thought I’d warn you about that can affect how long your little friend stays by your side! I think that covers just about everything there is to know about chihuahuas? lol. I’ve got a fawn deerhead and a big white pitbull. Both foster fails. Doobie the chi is an incredible dog ( so is beautiful big Bodhi the pit). I never thought I’d end up with a small dog, I’m the big dog type. But Doob’s is super athletic, not at all nippy and only yappy when someone is coming up to the door. He has gigantic ears, like a desert fox, and even tho we are on the second floor he can hear a person at the door downstairs, before they knock or ring. My pit only barks if someone jumps our fence or tries to. lol. Doobie the chi is our watch dog. He loves cats, thinks he’s a cat and loves fetch and other doggie games. Hes a great traveling dog.What a great pooch. I’m blessed. He’s 11 lbs of love and fun.

I got lucky ours had corgi daddy... legs strong and will leap fly 8 ft. Neck strong too but looks just like a chihuahua. My sisters have long hair chihuahuas and it freaks them out to see mine leap fly.

I’ve had a chi for 6 years and I’ve never heard they have hip issues, sure they jump off the furniture and bust their legs often but it’s typically the larger Breda that have back end issues,,,als if you spay or neuter young before joints are fully grown they can have issues with joints too…

I'm about to get my daughter's 7yr old Chihuahua/Min-Pin mix as my emotional support animal. He has survived 1 seafood poisoning and 2 other severe poisonings. She and her husband have 4 rescue dogs and one just had 4 pups but th3 only boy died. It was her 1st litter. Anyway all the other dogs are very large and my Marco man thinks he is double the size of their largest Pittie. He thinks anything Raider the Pitt can do, he can do better. The challenge is on. Marco shows a lot of character and cracks me up all the time. When he is on guard, there is no Chihuahua in him. The miniture pincher comes out. Chest puffed out. Total focus. He used to spend more time with me so he thinks he is mine and won't let the other dogs come near me in a friendly way. If he sees me giving them attention. He will do anything odd for a dog until my attention is back on him. The stories I could tell.

Wouldnt it make more sense for the dog to scootch around or shuffle when they walk? Maybe it was trained who knows

@@Zozz-tw9vn definitely not, my chihuahua had a luxating patella, and I spent a lot of time researching it. There were video clips of other chihuahuas using only their front legs when the luxating patella was really severe. My dog had the surgery now and she's healing fine :), but the first few days after surgery, she was only using her two front legs because her hind legs were in a lot of pain.
