Currently getting ready for my comprehensive exam. As someone with memory issues, on the spectrum of autism, and with other, neighboring impairments, I found your explanation to be the most helpful I've heard and, quite frankly, the most calming. I've been trying so hard to "control" and "master" the field, but you're right, it's about seeing what's important and what stands out, and then honing in on such to show your expertise. Thank you so much for this.

Thank you so much for your comment!! It makes me sooo happy that this video help provide some calm over this hectic time of your grad school career. Exams can be intimidating because it's impossible to know what to expect! But I am so happy that you're seeing a pathway that seems feasible for you to succeed! That's amazing! And you're amazing!!! Thank you for sharing your perspective with me 💙💙💙

I just wanted to say a huge THANK YOU! I just finished my comps last week and your videos were incredibly helpful, start to finish, on what can seem to be, at times, a mystical, vague process. Committees can be great (Mine is!) but still, getting a handle on how to prepare is difficult. You have really shed light on how to get ready for what seems like the biggest, most-pressure-inducing pop quiz of your life. :)

Very true! I completed my comps back in June May/June 2019! You are SOOOOO right about organizational strategies with preparing for the comps!!! I typed, saved, and organized my notes from each class to outline each of the course objectives! Me and my classmates also did a study group also! Without the notes of each class (highlighting content covering objectives for each class) and preparation/organization, I probably wouldn't have passed!!! I noticed that each doctoral program is different (for example, one program may give you all of the questions ahead of time and give you 2 week to answer them). My program on the other hand gave us one question a day (question provided at 8:00 am and the answer due the same day at 11:59 pm!) Although this stressed me out, my organized notes helped tremendously!!! Btw, this is a great video! :-)

The key questions will lead to how we structure the breakdown of content areas to research and write. On average each topic of research can easily have 100 related journal, and using them effectively to help to structure the literature review.

That is soo true! There is just so much information out there, but allowing the question to guide you will be helpful not just for exams, but also future work like literature reviews!! You're so right!!! thank you for sharing that and commenting!!
