Are Cosmetic Exclusives in Live Service Games Coming To An End? (Sea of Thieves, Fortnite, Halo) 

I would compare this to what went on in the LEGO community with the Captain Rex figure from the $600 Venator set being re-released in a $15 set.

I personally don't mind them bringing back exclusive cosmetics but only if they're tied to the game progression and hard to get instead, adding the to the emporium is the lamest thing ever

Idk SoT still does exclusive stuff. Like right now with the Ashen Event for the sword (it was even advertised as "unlock an exclusive reward". They are currently only bringing back plunder pass items to the Pirate Emporium. Or very high in demand gameplay mechanics like the Barrel Hide emote. Unless I am forgetting about anything else, they are only bringing back parts of the Obsidian set for Game Pass. Also the Paradigm was never added back to the shop since the mistake (re-release). So they are planning to keep it exclusive. And as you mentioned they are giving OG owners a separate style, meaning they still use exclusives to drive sales and play into the fear of missing out. Them not giving an OG style would hurt future skin sales, as users start to clock on that skins will come back at a later date and there is no rush to buy something there and then. Fortnite Battle Passes are a bit different. There is over 30 seasons of skins that can't be collected by new players. That's a lot of skins that could be making them money in the future via the Item Shop. Though they can't go back on previous battle passes, they can change it for the future ones. Which is exactly what SoT is doing.

I think we just got lucky. The battlepass no longer being exclusive was probably planned alongside the Disney deal for a while now and it's likely what caused FN to just say "Fine, keep the skin. We'll just make a new variant" when Paradigm was accidentally added, since it would've been a very bad look to announce "no more exclusive battlepasses" right after enforcing exclusivity on a FN skin.

They release it. Let people keep it and give ogs new veriant but all those who missed it get a even better gift. A first class middle finger 😂

sot has already been handled time limited or exclusive cosmetics horribly. There has been more then one or two cases where they brought back a cosmetic that was meant to be "time limited". Such as their first anniversary they brought back cosmetics from every single named update from that last year. Thats completely contradicting what a time limited cosmetic is. And the Battle Pass has NEVER been good in any way. The battle pass is 70% filler with in game currency. The paid section of the battle pass is only made up of 6 cosmetic that end up in the pirate emporium a month or two after the season ends, not to mention they look like shit.

I’m upset they brought the Mayhem Set to the Emporium I was told it was time limited.
