I recently updated to the Festool RO150, ETS EC150/5 and /3 and use them daily on the CTL 26 AC. I do still have my Bosch 5/6" version (the interchangeable pad version) though. If you need to move quickly (and don't want to drag dust extraction with you), there is nothing better than the Bosch - the filter element (round one) is the BEST made and captures most dust. Heavier and awkward in verticals but so so smooooth on flats and certainly well worth keeping (or even purchasing).

Great video. Last year, I sold all my sanders and bought the ets ec 150/5 and I'm still kicking myself for not having done so way sooner. Amazing sander and fits perfectly into the festool ecosystem, which is a great system overall.

I have the Bosch sander you are using and I have been very pleased with it for the 5 years I have had it. Today however i've ordered a Festool RTS 400 because Bosch does not have a small sander with adjustable speed. I must admit that the Bosch sander in this video is not as good as I expected on dust collection. ( I use the Bosch vacuum and mesh abrasive) the dust collection is still poor.

Might want to consider using power con plugs. It lets you convert any tool to an adaptor plug so its not just tool brand specific. They are made by neutrik.

I've done this for a few tools (bosch jigsaw and some routers). It worls great and is very similar to the festool plug it system, however the main disadvantage is that when you plug the two adapters together, you end up with a good 6" of a rigid, heavy connection, which can get in the way if you don't plan for it. Still, it does the job for tools I haven't yet upgraded to festool.

I just got that bosch new in a closeout in 6" for 115.00. Huge upgrade over all the standard 5" and I hope I get 5 yrs plus out of it like others report. Would bu a second one at that price if I can find it.

I’ve used a festool ROS sander before and it’s a mile above a dewalt ROS. I think I’ll like the 3M Xtract ROS even more. I have the Milwaukee M18 and M12 platforms and I heard of reliability issues with the braking pad of the M18 ROS and the vacuum attachment was an afterthought but it’s a nice sander when it works.

Sorry man but I have to call you out in this one. You are making ridiculous arguments about why the sander that cost 3 times more is worth it. Most good sanders before the over priced ones came out have an on and off switch and to say that is a reasons to buy this is ridiculous. and to say that you recommend it because it’s stops faster is assurance that you are not giving a non-bias true opinion of this product. Sorry if I’m being blunt or rude, but there are a million people putting out content and we have a choice. This content not only gave us zero information to make a good purchase, it was obviously motivated by something that was not loyal to your followers. You can do better….
@EverydayBuilds
@EverydayBuilds Год назад
I think you are missing the point that it’s a comparison between two popular sanders. It wasn’t so much that I liked the switch on the Festool, it was that I didn’t like the switch on the Bosch. And yes, when you spend hours a year sanding, it matters. And so does the spin down rate. And I literally said, “these things may not matter to you” and then recommended the Bosch sander. So I’m not sure where you are seeing any bias. It’s just my opinion and I’m entitled to that. You just sound like a typical festool hater.
@shaynesabala
@shaynesabala Год назад
@@EverydayBuilds not at all. I want a festool sander and really want their domino. It’s just that they can’t be justified at this point. I don’t want the sander for any of the reasons you presented, but because of the vibration rate. After spending hours sanding that vibration factor is a big deal. The 3 extra seconds it takes to spend down isn’t….
@EverydayBuilds
@EverydayBuilds Год назад
That’s fair. But the thing is I didn’t notice a big difference in vibration between these two and that’s why it wasn’t in the video. I just wanted to be honest and highlight the differences that meant the most to me 👍

I'm an idiot...but I use a $19.99 Bauer orbital. I hooked up a small diameter hose to the dust collector and taped the power cord to it, and hang it from the ceiling above my work table. No way something that expensive is worth it for hobbying. If you're a 70 hour per week pro, knock yourself out.
@tommaxwell429

Don't forget about the snob factor! High priced tools always impress the ladies! I saw a video of a disassembled Festool saw. The video showed the same bushing construction of less expensive tools and not the "ball bearings throughout" you would expect of a premium tool. I'm not bashing Festool, they are great tools, I just don't know if the build quality and value are there and are what we expect of premium tools. To me it falls in line with the "SawStop vs all others" argument. Sure they are nice, but are they really that nice. To each his own, if you got the money, why not! Remember our ancestors built beautiful furniture with simple hand tools.
@EverydayBuilds
@EverydayBuilds Год назад
I think the biggest differentiator with the Festool sander is the form factor (low profile design) and the braking technology. Other than that, it’s just another sander. SawStop is a different conversation, because it centers around safety. I will always put safety above all else. It’s a high-quality tool yes, but it also prevent terrible accidents everyday.

I don't see why you are getting so much hate. Hey, i had Bosch get 75-150 sander like rotex Festool very powerful nice machine but it's not good for my hands tingling, mum's vibration. So bed for hands. Is the Festool one which you have it, it has vibration after 1 hour using making hands mums? I was looking Bosch anti vibration model but far to big high to difficult use some small protect. I don't know which one should I buy.

The ONLY thing I care about in a sander is what can remove material faster. Compared to the 5 inch variable speed DeWalt for under $100, does the festool do anything more? Does it spin significantly faster or vibrate more?

@sbb526 don't waste your money. There are other options (and some reviews consider them better than Festool). This comparison was skewed by a paid RU-vidr. Had they done a real comparison of an equal Sander, it might be worth some value.
