@@michaelyun2407 - It's not just a matter of advantages. Probably more important than such promises are comfort and durability. If you play a sport, you need footwear that fits well, allows you to perform, doesn't increase the risks of injury, and lasts pretty long. Think about running shoes. If you're running 40+ miles per week, you need well-cushioned shoes (more than one pair) that aren't going to increase your risks of injury and will last for around 500 miles. Basketball is similar, running up and down the court, changing direction, and landing on a hard surface.

ubermench3000 my comfort zone is between $50 and $90 USD. I can easily get something that will perform well. Currently I’m looking at a Curry 6 for only $86 brand new. My logic is that I’m in the gym for at least 1 hour every day (I’m a student who plays basketball), so if the season last for 3 months, that’s 90 days. That’s less than $1 per hour to have fun. Thus by working minimum wage for 9 hours, I could have over 90 hours of fun. That’s great value comparing to other hobbies

When I was a kid my mom once took me to buy new shoes. At the store we looked at a pair of pretty expensive Nike shoes. When asking an employee why those shoes were so expensive he simply responded by saying that this particular model was (at that time) worn by a famous tennis player. No other reason. He told us that other cheaper models were equally as good. I nowadays mostly go with Asics shoes which go for not more than 50€. I'm very satisfied.
@FuckThatYo

Asics can be just as expensive as Nike... Just depends on the model.

The salesperson definitely was simplifying it. Clearly just wanted you to buy anything. There are differences in quality and technology between cheap and expensive shoes. between mid-tier and expensive shoe? That's where it may just be about the name and marketing of a famous athlete.

You can’t really trust NBA players when they talk about shoes. All those guys are sponsored by shoe companies and they have a financial incentive to push expensive shoes onto consumers. I’m only a casual basketball player, but I never noticed any difference in how I play whether I’m wearing Jordan’s or Walmart shoes. As long as they have decent ankle support, I’m good.

I play with friends once every few weeks. Sometimes longer. I’ve paid as much as $400 and as little as $40 for basketball shoes, but I’d play the same in either of them. “Wal-Mart shoes” was an exaggeration. I’m not even sure if they make basketball shoes.

There’s no science to tell you what the perfect shoe is for basketball. Each person who wears a basketball shoe is a unique individual. You could argue more persuasively there is a perfect shoe for each person, but it varies according to the person’s unique gait/mechanics. Anyone who plays basketball for any length of time understands this, which is why there isn’t only one particular shoe on the market.

Here's an old story, when I was a kid my mom would only buy cheap $25 shoes from Superstore or Walmart, and they sucked bad while lasting only 4-6 months before breaking. My mom wasn't happy on how I kept breaking shoes so fast and only allowed me to buy those $25 ones. I bought my first brand name pair when I started working part time at 15 ($60 Nike runners) and It lasted 4 years. Every pair of brand names I bought after that pair of Nike (3 pairs) lasted me years, and I always buy low tier brand names.

Like last week i bought a pair of harden vol.4 for 60% off and a pair of PG 4 for 50% off

As a former soccer player, I was always extremely particular about my boots (cleats) while playing and could never play in cheap boots because they just didn’t perform the same. However, that’s for a sport that uses the shoe(foot) and ball as the main parts of that particular sport; hence the word “futbol” or “football” With basketball and American football, the shoes would seem to me to be less of an issue simply because if you can’t shoot or dribble properly it doesn’t matter what shoes you have on.
@Daniel-ds8nd
@Daniel-ds8nd 2 года назад
Actually, the term "football" signifies any games "peasants" play on the field with a ball on foot. This include rugby, soccer and etc . The elites (ruling class) usually play on their horses like polo. This goes way back in England/UK.. soccer is the correct english term for modern day "football"... Go check it out yourself. There are still 100+ year old clubs in England and Scotland who are registered as "soccer" clubs.
@GraV21
@GraV21 2 года назад
@@Daniel-ds8nd That’s a nice lesson and all, but pretty irrelevant to what I was referring to. “Football” in America (where I’m from) is the term I was differentiating it from, not soccer. I’m familiar with what the terms “Soccer”, “Football”, and “Futbol” represents in different contexts. That’s why I used “Soccer”. So either you misinterpreted what I meant, or just felt the need to go on your own tangent.

This reminded of the Jordan Jumpman Pro back in 96-97, when it had the same tech specs as the Jordan 12 Taxi and nobody knew. The original Jumpman Pro had the full same full length zoom and carbon fibre plate as the Jordan 12. Jumpman Pro retailed just over $100 and Jordan 12 was over $200 after taxes in Canada. Jumpman Pro was super comfy as well, the retro ones do not stack up - they no longer have full length zoom and use TPU plates now. Would be interesting to see how the old Jordan 11-13 stack up against today’s top line shoes.

As a shoe designer and commercial/real estate developer, a company can price a shoe (markup) all they want. However, unless ultra luxury, the shoes are made in China! When I was designing the “Gilmo,” my manufacturer charged me $15.00 to make plus $3.00 for the shoe box. The shoes would have sold for $199 to $300 for my footwear.

Michael Jordan became a billionaire and owns his own nba team and his major source of income is the 5% Royalties he gets from Nike from the annual sales of his Jordan Brand product including shoes and apparel. If he is only getting 5% and is a billionaire imagine how big Nike's cut must be. And this marketing is why Jordan brand products are the most expensive in both the sneaker and apparel game.

From my personal experience, yes they are. I grew up wearing Wal-Mart shoes and it was not uncommon for them to wear out by the end of the year. I bought Adidas and Nike when I got older and was surprised to see how much longer those lasted. I always buy the more reasonably priced pairs ($40-60) and get 3-4 years out of them. Replacing a $20 pair from Wal-Mart 3-4 times in the same time period will cost me more than the Adidas or Nike pair. I will never buy cheap brands for this reason.
