Are "FREE RANGE" Meat Chickens Even A Thing?!?!
Is it possible to raise broilers or meat chickens without a tractor? Let's take a look.
And yes, we do watch Pete at “Just A Few Acres Farm”

I don't farm or sell at markets, but thanks to your channel and a couple others this year my wife and I grew our first garden, have a small flock of chickens that should start producing eggs around the end of July, and started shopping at our local farmers market. More important than all those things is that we do it all together. Watching you and your wife work together and how close you two are warmed our hearts and I have to say that following in your footsteps has improved our marriage. I don't say that lightly. We've been together for 24 years and this has brought new life into our relationship. It's been a real booster shot to an already wonderful marriage and for that I thank you. You've helped improve the lives and marriage of a couple you've never even met.

I am hoping for the same outcome. My wife and I have been married 43 years and at the age of 62 I started building my forever home on 30 acres last year. I raised meat birds, she didn’t help. This year I ordered 20 Easter Eggers and while she doesn’t help, she comes down and watches when I get eggs. I purchased two does and a buck rabbit and started raising rabbits and she likes to feed them grass and clover. I also started raising 4 feeder pigs, and she has started to watch me feed them. I started a 100+ mineral tub garden that I thought she would enjoy helping me with, but not yet. Hopefully when she sees tomatoes (which she loves) she’ll come out with me more often. Slowly trying to get her to do things with me. 🤞

Wow. Everybody says Cornish Cross don't get around much and just shove 'em in a tractor. I'm shocked at how active they are in this video. An eye-opener for sure.

I want to farm so I’ve been watching your kind of videos for years. I’ve been a sub for you for years. You have taught me so muchh along the way. I watch JustinRhodes and the DOSS family channels etc. all have different kinds of farms. These are my niches and you cover the animals I want and do the other channels. As a GMA with no responsibility’s I watch all day everyday. Keep making them and I’ll keep watching. See you on the next one 😊

Viewing your video from Texas. Appreciate your sharing your thoughts, experience and creative expertise. Your chickens look active, filled out and healthy. Some other videos doing similar raising of Cornish cross show chickens that are partially crippled, missing feathers and struggling. They appear to be big at 8 weeks. Your birds are running around, fat, healthy and a living a good life. I like the way you raise you animals and appreciate your commentary about your procedures. Looking forward to your next video. Praying for your safety, health, strength, wisdom and success in His Holy Name. ☝ 🙏🙌💪👊

Just did the "free range" electric fence broiler raising. My hens are using my tractors as permanent homes, and refused to build another one. Made a tarp house and moved that their electric fence around for 8 weeks... my back was very appreciative of my choice. 😉 Best of luck!

I was a way a couple weeks so I have some catching up to do, a back-log of Sheraton Park Farm to watch! Well, you may not think what you are doing is interesting, but...let me tell you, being cooped up in the city after being raised a farming person is very confining. Cities are CAFOs for people! LOL! Thank you for sharing your day with us. You are as much a blessing to us as we are to you.

Your video on processing Cornish cross hens is the best ever. It’s my go to. I’ve processed 4 different times an average of 45 birds and it’s because of that that made the best chicken and dumplings ever today and the family loved it. Yours and Saundra’s attention to detail is all business and professional and inspire a 70 year old retired guy like me for the future so thank you from here in Zone 5 Utah

Those day range birds look great. I do 1,000 at a time like this, but I don’t use chicken tractors. Just simple 8x10 covers 2’ off the ground and move the covers each day through the field to distribute the manure. An Anatolian Shepherd and a couple Guard Geese keep them protected.

We did 50 meat birds for the first time ever. We tried the tractors but didn’t like how they were cooped up all the time. So we bought the netting and move it once a week. It took about 12 weeks to get them up to 4 pounds each but they are delicious. Better than anything Tyson puts out there.

This will be our first year raising chickens solely for meat. We are in process of building chicken tractors and they will “ free range” within poultry netting during the day, secure in tractors at night!

I always raise mine in a fenced off area with a hut to keep feed from getting wet. Instead of making those type tractors like you have I bought 10x20 pens from Amazon they’re made outta 3/4 snap together pipe. When I bought mine they were 180 bucks now they’re about 250 or so. Come with everything you need I bought larger tarps for mine. Saying this I only do 40 birds at a time and I live in a subdivision but I do have a 85 acre farm 2 hours away. Anyone wondering if you can do your own birds at home yes you can. 8-10 weeks you have a freezer full of fresh meat that’s not shot up with salt water and whatever else they use in the industry. I learned a lot from these videos y’all post especially the meat bird cleaning videos which made me look like a pro outta the gate. Thank you for taking the time to show us how to do things and for all the info you provide us.

Oh and those Cornish cross look great! They seem to look fuller as in feathers, is it just the video or are they fuller than the tractor ones that usually look partially “bald” I know that’s how Cornish cross look but again, they appear to look different than usual.

Free range meat chickens are indeed a thing on Kawai. The locals harvest the wild chickens and eat them. Of course they are as tough as a kids riddle. Perhaps I just have a little sort of brain but so far what you are doing is indeed quite interesting to me.

Think free range the last three hrs of sunlight without the netting works, they eat for three hrs then go back into their coup before dark.

There is a lot of good info out there but also a lot of bad info. I like to stick to the channels that seem to be giving out good info. Also I don't tend to watch several channels that are doing the same as everyone else. You're kinda the all around every thing farmer, cows chicken and pigs with extra little projects here and there, Just a few acres channel is cow and hay for the most part with some tractor maintenance and rebuilding, More than farmers channel is for my garden needs. That's all I watch for farming channels and all I need. Once I find a good source of info on what I'm looking for I tend to stick with them for the long run.
