@@TheArtofRepair the truth is that with android phones which use batteries of the same form factor, you can easily do battery swap and you don't have to go for aftermarket batteries, simply buy batteries from their OEM manufacturer (Nokia, oppo, realme, vivo, Samsung, Huawei, Xiaomi, Poco, Asus, Infinix) and swap their respective BMS, and that's it, you can get a fully functional android phone with more battery capacity. I swapped a Galaxy a32 battery into a Huawei p40 lite and the phone now has a 5000 mah battery and is discharging in a slow rate, of course I don't use fast charger, so I don't mind waiting for it to fully charge
@@danteerskine7678What sucks is, who can you trust to get what you pay for. I just replaced my Pixel 3XL battery and bought from ifixit. They said, OEM battery. Now when I got the old swollen battery out, it didn't have pixel, stamped on it. It had, for pixel 3XL on it. Like Nokia, Samsung, etc. Are stamped plainly, with their Logo. Replacing a battery, ain't no picnic. So ya don't want to experiment . Ya want to do it once and be done with it. But how do ya trust that if it claims, higher capacity, it truly is?
Aah they do exist. I am an electronic engineer and they surely exist and are safe. The myth probably came due to fake ones which were overall not well built. The genuine ones would just need more charge time with the same charger and also last longer
Well put, for the average joe and tech the myth "extend batteries dont exist" is good advice. These small incremental changes in power density over the years is nothing difficult to believe. The issue comes from a misinformed consumer going on amazon or ebay and picking out the highest rated 5,000mah GOLD batteries. There are reputable aftermarket battery companies who make extended batteries using samsung cells however they are also being knocked off nowadays. Sellers also increase mah ratings 5 to 10 mah above what legit extended capacity batteries offer so people buy those batteries, further worsening this situation.
i just rang a mobile shop ... to ask how much thel charge to fit a high capacity 3400mah in iphone 7plus ..n he said over time it will mess ur mobile up ..it wiĺ heat up.... n then i read ur comment ! so my 🔋 on its way ... i just didnt want to fiddle with the mobike myself tryiing to chage it
You’ve earned a new subscriber! Excelent video. I just bought an extended battery for my iPhone 8 Plus (X-Longer 2900mAh). It’s made by Cameron Sino, which is a known third party battery manufacturer for almost any device you can think of (iPhones, smartphones of every kind, bluetooth speakers, etc). You, as a technician might have the proper tools to test the real capacity of the battery, but the average DIY consumer must have two things in mind before buying these kind of replacements: -Make sure it’s made by a reputable manufacturer -Make sure the capacity increase isn’t exaggerated. They might be able to fit 2900mAh in a 2650mAh battery size, but not 5000mAh. Sadly in Argentina we don’t have much variety. Either are copycats sold as real, or Cameron Sino batteries. I’ve been installing the latter in other devices without any issues. This is the first time I bought an extended one, for my device. Let’s see how it goes..

I replaced my iPhone X battery with an aftermarket high quality unbranded one from a trusted vendor...my actual capacity is almost 2900mAh according to coconut battery, this is 6-7% increase of battery capacity.
Good to know Justin. This clears a ton up for me. I am able to offer significantly better service to my customers due to all the info you pass on. Thanks for unselfishly sharing your time and knowledge!
Just stumbled upon your channel. And what a great channel! Quality information and tutorials. We have had the opportunity to use these High Cap batteries. Like you mentioned trust in them back in days was very bad because of vendors cheating with the specs. But an important thing to mention about these High cap batteries is future compatibility. Before jumping on these batteries you should mention and consider discussing the issue of future compatibility. As we all know Apple likes to mess with aftermarket parts and a simple iOS update where the phone does a Mah check up and it doesn’t match with OEM values could potentially force the phone crash or cause other issues. Especially since we know they able are locking batteries now and consider them as “safety issue hardware” like the Touch ID etc. This concern is the main reason why we have stocked with regular capacity batteries. Nonetheless all considered people should be aware that there is a slight possibility this could happen.
Sorry for commenting on an old video. Does original genuine Apple batteries have the mAh of the spec sheet? Eg iPhone 12 batteries are supposed to have 2,815 mAh. But I can’t imagine Apple suppliers holding a supply line back for years after iPhone 12 launches. And I don’t think replacement batteries are produced in 2020 when iPhone 12 launched. Original replacement batteries probably have higher capacities too but it is just not in Apple’s interest to spend money to advertise it or make it explicit. As long as it fits the specs of at least the mAh of the launch specs, it is good enough for its purpose.
@@MrAhgohgoh it’s not about holding a supply line back. It’s about chemistry. Every new chemistry goes through very VERY expensive verification and clarification processes “per model” and that can stack up. Once they have it dialed in. They are not holding a supply line back. They are keeping costs down and maximizing profits They are absolutely the same capacity as a day one i12, for sure. There is 0 incentive for them financially to give higher capacity to anything older. Even newer stuff is not actually “top of the line” so to speak it’s all chemistries that play nice and in the middle and do t cause issues. Samsung are the ones that play fast and loose trying to cram every mah into new models. At least from my experience. Apple is more balanced. And no worries on the old video comment. I still see them all the same :)
Sometimes i just scared that the quality won’t be as good, or that it would start ballooning. This happened to me with a samsung phone and a third party battery a long time ago
Justin, I hope you will continue this channel. When you work for another company or even for yourself, you have to juggle your time. Just be careful and take care of yourself. We enjoy your channel!
@@Tomdragon91 just buy a battery from reputable company, then replace the bms (battery management system) from your old original battery to the new third party battery
I just replaced the battery in my Pixel 3XL. Now I have seen ads for higher capacity batteries but!!!, resd that buyers have found that the claims of higher capacity were false. Maybe that's why people are skeptical of the higher capacity claims. It's sad, because it ruins the thought that you can get a higher capacity battery of the same size. I certainly would have loved getting higher capacity battery after going to all the trouble if replacing my own battery. But like you said, who can you trust?
I have a 3750mah battery in my xs max and its probably not 3750mah, but I can with confident say that I get more then ten hours of screen on time with a few precent left.
What I've seen is people buying those high capacity batteries and when charging, it doesn't go beyond 50% or 10% or 25% most of the times, which means that either the battery is fake, just like you said, or the mobile OS is not capable to recognize its full capacity. With that said, do you know any safe manufacturer to indicate?
I bought a high capacity battery for my iPhone 7 Plus and I definitely saw the difference, but I would have obviously saw some difference since my old battery was at 73% battery health. Though it’s been a year and complete happy with the battery, I would really like to test the battery myself, though I don’t want to take it out of my phone again. Does anybody know some app or software that can test and give me a mAh rating?
Does anyone know if Nohon high capacity batteries are legit and good quality? EDIT: I‘ve been using my Nohon battery for a few months now and everything is fine so far. Don‘t expect it to suddenly give you super long battery runtime, but it‘s definitely a nice little boost.
I totally agree, it is the same logic behind new processors, every new gen they put more cores with better efficiency inside the same package, that's because the lithography is improving.
I do not want to sound skeptical because I agree with everything you say in the video, but in my personal case I bought a high capacity battery for my iPhone 7, and everything was perfect, except for the fact that it occupied a larger volume than the original battery and when I closed the iPhone the pressure of the battery jammed the screws (they are fixed but no longer screw) and I could not remove them again. I do not want to say that it happens to all of them but with the one I bought it happened to me. The iPhone still works perfectly though.
can you pls. make a video about how to charge your devices to preserve the battery health? I am told keeping your devices at between 50-80% is best and charging to 100% degrades the battery sooner overtime.
I find it difficult to get a third-party iPhone replacement high-capacity battery without getting scammed. 2700mAh replacement for a 1715mAh original raises all red flags.
Thanks for this commentary video. However, it didn't answer my question, which is: are upgrades allowed using a 2680 mah battery on an iPhone 5s (which originally comes with the 1560 man battery) ?
High capacity, just make sure that it is from Amazon if you're in North America. That's because Amazon has amazing customer protections. In regards to your situation in India, go for high capacity too.
i'm in doubt bout double battery capacity for iphone se 2016, it says 2000mah. i slightly believe that maybe it could be had bigger in dimension but i dont know man cause iphone se had a bit of space to fill in battery slot when og battery is installed, the extended one' named "cortex". i can't even find which manufacture who makes this battery, for legitimate reason. i end up bought foxconn battery that as far as i know the only manufacture who makes battery for apple company it self. 2000mah could be good to be true, maybe i would buy it next year till my battery depleted for curious reason. what do you think?
im no electric engineer or some kind of that (im just 16 actually) but i do interested of how do these company pack much more energy into one exact same cell size like the original one? like how d they did? i'd heard that weighter the battery , the larger the capacity. is it actually tru? p.s sorry for bad grammar. english is not my 1st langugae
It's all down to battery chemistry & newer technology. The phones electronics operate at a certain voltage, so long as the bettery is within the voltage range & is capable of delivering enough current than you can have unlimited capacity & it'll work fine. They are using newer technologies to store more energy into the battery. For example there are some cheap double AA batteries at the dollar store with only 800 mAh, but you can also find ones of the same size with 2,500 mAh. Issue is it's more profitable to lie & say your battery is super super good technology when in fact it's a cheap battery.
Lol, tbh, its not my job to push vendors on here. 10-20-30 i could give you a list of 100 companies that use real high capacity batteries. But there are more check marks on the list than a high capacity cell. Feel free to PM me on reddit/facebook/discord and ill give you the name of the one that I personally designed because i can atleast vouch for that one 100%. But no intention of giving anyone free advertisement on my channel. XD
I’m afraid of the quality of some of these batteries. What if they degrade faster over time? Or maybe they’ll explode, lol, we know that even samsung made that mistake, some random company with nothing to lose might also make that mistake
Hello I have a question for you that no one can answer me. I do belive that there are high capacity batteries that can be used in an older phone. My problem is charging. Lets say I have a phone with a original capacity battery of 1000 mAh and I purchase a battery of 2000 mAh. As the phone software knows that it has a 1000 mAh battery the software could stop charging when this capacity is full. So I could have a 2000 mAh battery half full because of software limitations. In my AA battery charger It has a table that tells me that it works for batteries of certain mAh so I think that is important and so I purchase batteries of these mAh. Thank you in advance for the answer.
Yes, I have the same question, was it resolved, if the software knows that only 1000 mah is there will it charge all 2000. And how the phone will display the battery percentage and all that stuff. Please guide
@@JustSayN2O 10-15% above oem capacity usually 1-2 years after release max 20-25% 3-4 years after release is normal. But can still be a bit high depending on models original capacity
@@paxanellie he's not talking about energy, the capacity of the battery, how many mAh the battery has is stored in the kernel, so if you replace the battery, the phone still thinks it has that same capacity that came from the factory. ( I don't know if i got what you said correctly )
Are they’re any decent brands for third party batteries out there? I’ve found nohon, deji and maybe loctus and ampsentrix but there’s also some bad anecdotal evidence for all of these as well. I wouldn’t mind paying more for a good quality, long lasting extra capacity battery.
My friend: Higer capacity Iphone 7 battery damaged my phone. Me: How did it damaged it? My friend: Previous battery lasted only 4 hours and this one lasts only 8 hours. I want it to last 4 HOURS. Me: But you know that 8 hours is better than 4 hours. My friend: O really? Me: Yes really. So my friend doesent know anything about time and batteries.
There's no such thing as an aftermarket battery that higher capacity than OEM. They don't exist, and I've tested a lot of them. You can only safely put so much capacity in a given volume, and there's generally no space inside cellphones to pack in more battery. Amazon and eBay are full of "high capactiy" "improved" "upgraded" batteries that are just copies of OEM batteries, sometimes inferior copies. If it's an iPhone battery, it's not genuine unless it's gray market repair parts, or parts pulled from salvage or stolen phones. Same with the screens and other parts they sell. On a lot of these so-called "high capacity" batteries, if you peel back the sticker that says "5000mah" or something like that, you'll see the original rating of 2900 or whatever. "High capacity" "upgraded" batteries are a scam.
It woulld work, but my only fear is that the battery fail and catch fire like the old Galaxy Note7 ones. But in theory, if the battery is good and perfect, it woul be awesome.
I am not trying to post advertisements for batteries on here. If you can send me a pm on either facebook/reddit/discord I will give you the name of the battery i designed, which is extended capacity. Just not trying to turn my channel into a paid spot for someone XD
The only thing I could see is low quality imitators selling a battery labeled as high cap that say has the wrong voltage or amperage this being the reason for the damage. With that being said a standard capacity pack at the wrong voltage or amperage would do the same damage. At the end of the day voltage and amperage are what’s important. Mah and Milliampere’s is not the same thing if people stop confusing the 2 I’m sure then they might understand volume.
Water resistance is a thin layer inside your iPhone that can be reapplied after replacement. It comes with most battery with a model that supports water resistance example iPhone 8 battery.
100% will remove water resistance. But so will all repair. Repair shops are not certifying bodies and cannot make claims without having OEM process and tools. If they do. Then maybe they can make that claim. Another thing to consider is most phones need a few days to weeks for adhesives to fully cure. Which is outside the range a client will wait for a device. On another note. Water resistance will fail over time anyway, even without opening the device. As the adhesive will age and degrade. I wouldn’t trust the water resistance of a device that’s old enough for a battery swap anyway 😅
i have changed my mobile battery with higher capacity with the help of technician, he removed my original mobile protection circuit board and soldered it on higher capacity battery that i bought from market, i am getting now full 24 hours backup. Earlier it was 3000 mah and now i have 5000 mah battery, no heating problem, everything is working fine, he will also replace my camera with 48 mega pixel. I have only 8 mega pixel camera. Bro literally the 12 mini has a 2200 mAh battery Edit: Adding to this a year later, the 13 mini has 2400 mAh battery and is still a smaller phone than the old iPhone 6s which only had a 1800 mAh battery, although comparing the 13 mini to the 2022 SE is more accurate which has a 2000 mAh battery and even then the 13 mini still has a larger capacity

Im realise high capacity got warming device then normal capacity. It's true, warm battery can damaged the devices or lifespan of the devices will reduce?? Tq
The issue with these “high capacity” batteries, is working out which brands are reputable. And as an everyday consumer, that’s nigh impossible. Remember guys, you get what you pay for, so if it’s only $5, then it’s clearly not good quality. Also, some countries don’t have easy access to brands that are common in other countries. Here in Australia on ebay I either see fake OEM batteries, or DEJI and GEARDO batteries which both offer high capacity (3000MaH instead of 2659 on the original XS). Anyone here uses either brand?? Please? BTW, great video my friend. Really enjoyed it
@@TheArtofRepair Thanks for the reply, have you used GEARDO batteries before? They seem to be the only easily purchasable batteries on eBay that other mobile repair parts stores nearby me sell. These stores I know mobile repair shops use as you need an ABN (Aus business number) to purchase from. They sell a premium high capacity battery (3000mAh instead of 2694mAh) for $40AUD. All the others I’ve seen aren’t branded, or have fake Apple branding.
@@Boodoo4You unfortunately I don’t know that brand, but I will say that there is a marked increase in better quality batteries from most vendors these days. It’s when you go on amazon and eBay you find trouble.
Adding a higher capacity battery is analogous to putting a larger fuel tank in a car. More gas doesn't kill your engine, it just allows you to go farther. A higher capacity battery if it's the same voltage and is able to supply the same operating current and is the same physical size won't damage a phone, it will only let you use it longer. The main concern with an aftermarket higher capacity battery will be the quality of the battery itself.
Ok fair enough. I did electronics. Just saying more capacity doesn't kill stuff. If the battery is the same voltage your device is still going to draw the same current (Amp) as it did before. It will just be able to draw that current for longer.
bro can you tell me from where i can buy a legit high capacity battery for my iphone 7plus i am from pakistan ? or can you suggest me ant legit company name ??
I purchased a brand new, old stock, iPhone 6s for my daughter. The battery health shows 100% but the actual battery life is terrible, even after going into the settings and turning off many things that typically drain the battery. Any advice?
@@SuperFez87 not sure how you are overcoming the FPC flex length without changing the protection board circuit or bending the flex too much to be safe.
Your inference is incorrect. If you claimed that high capacity doesn't harm your phone, it's up to you to prove it, and not for others to refute your claim.
So based on my own video, I showed examples of batteries that had the exact same cell size, and output voltage having a higher energy density. The batteries in the video are all from the largest phone OEM on the planet, and all have a mess of safety certs along with them. As well as the fact that the whole thing about battery chemistry is that its an ongoing science and is updated almost to the dot every few months with a slightly higher capacity. Even if its perfect of a percent, those add up over time. after 2-3 years, it can easily be 10-20%+ If you can fit higher energy density into the same space, while outputting the exact same voltage... you have the proof that it doesn't harm the device. As the device is just using the voltage or potential to complete its tasks. Having the same voltage here is key, because as long as its the same voltage, then it will not effect the circuit differently in any way. If thats the case.. and an electrical circuit will only ever use what it actually needs then by the logic in this comment, high capacity batteries exist, and its on everyone else to prove them wrong. I think I provided enough information to prove their viability and that at this point, the onus is on someone else to prove me wrong which would be the point of refuting my claims, not so much "doing the hard work for me" Am I wrong in my thinking? Also some information thats not in the video, you can also easily connect a DC power supply to a phones battery connectors, or main power rail and power it directly from the grid in essence, forever. this would emulate an infinite capacity battery. The key takeaway is that its the same voltage, or potential as thats what determines everything else./ I hope this was enough information to help =) Thank you for taking the time to leave a comment, feel free to come back in the future, I love when people care enough to contribute =)
Apple are well known for using inferior or older parts in their phones because they know regardless that people will buy and pay a premium for their phones, so upgradeable batteries for their phone doesn't surprise me.
Weird fact you will appreciate is that they use the same chips for 4-5 years for a lot of subsystems that don’t have any sort of marketing points. Makes diagnostics and repair nice, and really. Some systems don’t “need” changed. So always interesting to look at
Just came across your vlog. Very interesting because I was going to replace the battery on the iPhone 6S plus 2750 mAh battery with a iPhone 6 plus battery 2915 mAh but articles say that it may damage the iPhone in the long run.
