I used the K2s clicker years ago and loved the convenience and functionality. A friend then talked me out of using them claiming that conventional strap bindings would give far better and precise control. I foolishly took his word for it but percivered for years but hated having to buckle up after every chairlift. Finally this year I dug them out of my loft and put them back on my board and I can honestly say they are the best thing since sliced bread. Being able to clip in on the chairlift and ride away, no tangling up with your buddies on exiting the lift, being able to clip out in one second, no wet bum from sitting down to get back in the bindings. The amount of energy and pfaffing saved is fantastic. As for the control and precision while carving, I found no difference. The K2s are precise, rigid and fantastic. I'm never going back to any other bindings. Shimano got it righ years ago. Dont follow fashions , just get some K2s and your boarding will be a lot more enjoyable.

I’m 62, been waiting for decent step -ins to get back into snowboarding. The short runs here in southwestern Ontario involved too much bending over for my old back.

I'm new to snowboarding this year - I'm like way old and way late to the game (59) but I'm finally here! I just wanted to say that the reason behind wanting strapless bindings is not just because one can't be bothered or spends too much time sitting (!)... I wanted to throw this out there that a lot of us will find these super helpful just because of physical constraints! I'm certainly not 30 anymore, some things are just permanently beat up after a full, active life. I'm super stoked about this option, so I REALLY appreciate the demo!

I switched to Burton’s step on bindings last year and they are great 👍! They are fit nicely and are tight and also you can hit jumps with them without having to worry about if they are going to fall off or how much you need to tighten them. They are also very light and easy to take places. I think that in my opinion they are worth the money

I just bought step ons (ion and x bindings), coming from burton Ion and genesis x for the last few seasons. Really excited to get them on snow. I can't imagine that I would like the clicker x boots with the thicker sole to accommodate the hardware; got to have different board feel with that.

I love them when they work correctly with some adjustments. I have released while they were locked and almost lost the board after chasing 1/4 mile. Never wore a leash w straps now I do Make sure to adjust the back to allow enough room for easier entry

Loved clickers back in the day. yeah the convenience is nice, but the better edging you get is worth it even if it took longer than strapping in! Great to see they're back! the key obviously is knowing (or being) a good boot fitter that knows what they are doing. rode the legacy dindings for 5 years+ in Tahoe. Never had a snow clog issues. and that was with a lot of bootpacking up to the peaks and stashes. stomp, stop, click and go. if anything snow buildup is far worse with traditional strap bindings.

The old k2 click ins from around 2000 were solid. Never had a problem. Still going strong. Quick and easy click in. The boots though were super stiff and not comfortable. I still use the same setup as I only go a few times a year now, but really interested in the new boots. Debating between this setup and the Burton step on system for my wife.

If someone quits snowboarding because "too much sitting down and standing up", they didn't snowboard at all to begin with. One of the things that I really emphasize when I teach them, is to learn to strap in while standing up. And they always love it.
@silverkw
@silverkw 3 года назад
That's a good point. But one thing I didn't realize until I started using Burton step on is how much energy I spent bending down to do straps. When I use step on, I didn't need to take a break at all after stepping in and I would just go. I am not in the best shape that's probably why, but the step on really makes it way more efficient for myself and some other people to do groomers.

Burton had hard boot clickers on an asymmetrical board in the late 80’s. Crazy it’s taken so long to develop.
@GLHNSLHT2

I've ridden the clickers for the last 3 seasons up until the end of Jan 2020. Every season and a half I've had to get new boots because the soles rip off of the boot. Did it with the Starks and the Compass Clicker boots. After the Compass' started to rip off I demo'd a set of Burton Step on's. I'll never go back to clickers again. The board feel and control is so much more superior that I've upped my game a lot! Way more confidence inspiring. And with the way the retention knobs are integrated into the Burton boots I don't see them ripping the boot apart. I tried to get the K2 boots warrantied. On the Starks I had jumped through all the hoops with K2's customer service and then they ghosted me. I had already bought the Compass boots. When those started to tear off I took them back to the ski shop I bought them at and they called the rep and the rep said "Sorry they're over a year old." The new High backs won't stop the boot from ripping off. You can see how much it pulls on the sole that's just glued to the edges of the boot when the guy butter's the board in the room. Do that over and over and over and it'll tear the top of the boot clean off. Then if you can even get in touch with someone at K2 they will tell you to go pound sand. That's all ok though the Burton Step On system is way better. Gives you better control and more comfort. That allows me to ride all day without my feet getting tired. I can still "click" into the burtons while riding the chair just like I could with the K2's and ride right off which was nice to keep the knee injury from getting aggrivated. With the high backs on there I don't see that as being possible. The only way I'd get these is just to see if they'd last longer than a season and a half again. But then I don't have money to throw down the drain. Stay away from this junk. If you want a strapless binding get the Burtons.

The old clickers ( from the 90's) had the same problem. When I see these I get flash backs of kids trying to chip ice out of the sole with a screwdriver. He also neglected to mention in the video that when you click in you still have to reach down and rotate the little handle on the lever.... something you don't have to do with step ons.
@moufas911
@moufas911 3 года назад
I can see all that without even try them on. I can't believe you fall for it. A little bit of ice over there and say bye to your click. Burton is the one to go so far. I'll try the new DC step on boots this year. Lets see!

@GLHNSLHT2 3 года назад
@@jonbrown9490 I only turned the handle on my front foot so I just did it on the first click in. The back foot never came out. I do like the Burton's much better and will never go back though.

@@moufas911 I figured the engineers would of designed the boot to make this nigh impossible. When it happened on my first pair of boots I thought it was a fluke. The step ons had just came out and getting a set was 1st impossible and 2nd I wanted to try them before buying them because the Burton boots I had tried on when 1st getting back into snowboarding in 2016 were very uncomfortable though they were just an entry level boot at a sports store. When the compass boots started to tear our local mountain had started renting step ons. So for $50 I was able to try them for the whole day on a mountain I knew in decent conditions which was nice. I went right home and bought a set. This year I bought another set of boots because I like the color and a set of bindings because I like the color, also a set of the new X's for my new Rossi XV board.

Burton step ons would be better for this as you dont have to worry about snow build up as much. The clickers have the metal pieces right under foot, while the burton step ons have the attachment pieces on the back and at the toes. Some snow can be underneath, and the back will still click in once and will be secure enough to not have to worry about it, though two clicks is what u want to hear. Also, the k2clicker system is still super expensive, considering the obvious draw back
@MrBucktime
@MrBucktime 3 года назад
The Clicker system features Heel and Toe mounts that provide direct energy transfer where you need it most. The cleats themselves are recessed in the sole of the boot. Under the cleat is a teflon (non-stick) coated section that really works at keeping your cleats free from snow build up. As far as price goes... Burton Step on binding - $399.00 Burton Photon Step on Boot - 399.95 Total $800 Clicker X HB binding - 259.95 Maysis Clicker X boot - 299.95 Total $560 Hope this helps

@@MrBucktime non stick lmao OK bud, everyone who tries the clickers complains of the same issue, the snow build up. Also, by having the heel hook connector in the step ons closer to the edge of the board it is easy to heel edge on a snowboard.

Take the heal cuff and highback off... you won't regret it. Control comes from the sole if the boot, it's a way more responsive feel.

The new clicker X system offers 2 boot options for men and one option for women. The boot featured in this video is the Maysis Clicker X HB. It utilizes boa conda heel retention system to gently hug your ankle and lock your heel in place. The other two offerings are the Boundary and the Kinsley which feature zonal tightening (upper and lower) as well as a 3point harness to address heel hold. Hope this helps.
@TheXanUser
@TheXanUser 3 года назад
one thing about straps vs clickers is you dont need as stiff of a boot because there's no added play in the binding and strap. and with the toe and heel attached out near the edges you get way better edging, but you can do it with a softer boot.

Wondering if the existences of the cleats requires extra padding and increase the stack height of the outsole. Also, if the cleat and the binding interface get jammed up in icy conditions.
@MrBucktime
@MrBucktime 3 года назад
The boot feels like any other boot, just a little heavier. The cleat is recessed so it feels normal when walking and riding. The cut out around the cleat has a teflon coat finish (non-stick) to address for snow and ice build up. Hope this helps!

why is nobody talking about snow/ice pile up under neath or inside the cleats? You know that by just walking around, your own body weight is going to compress and pack that ice really well.
@ShredSchool1
@ShredSchool1 3 года назад
they have anti-stick coating to prevent snow buildup. It's really not as big a deal as everyone thinks it is. Just like your boots with regular bindings, I'm sure occasionally you'd need to scrape it out on a pow day, but on the daily it's not a big issue.

I've been wearing the original 04 clickers until this year, then switched to 22's. The only snow where this happens is late day spring ski / wet-slushy / mashed potatoes snow. Even still, a couple beaver tail slaps and I'm usually all set. Only the heel clip presents an issue getting fully snapped in.
@SkyOnPixel
@SkyOnPixel Год назад
That’s because the build up isn’t an issue. I had the k2 clicker this entire season, zero issue clicking in. Flicked the release latch on a slush day a few times and it was good to go.
