In multiplayer they are widely considered one of the most overpowered units ever introduced. 38 MD on a unit with by our blood and AP for 500 gold. broken 😂
@@Weberkooks I thought I remembered as much watching some of Turin's videos when SoC was released. At least there are counters. Not kidding when I say my eyes would light up playing factions with cheap, prolific arrow units, because they're a lot worse against most "standard" options (Orc Boyz, as a lazy example).
Kostaltyn turns them into good early cheap damage dealers. (+5 MA from faction effect, and +10 MA from army-wide Frenzy) 39 MA out of the box with AP damage? Yes, please!
It's worth noting that having a cheap armor piercing unit available from the get go will be a god send for dealing with Chaos; you won't kill chaos warriors in a straight 1:1 "come at me brah" scenario, but you'll be able to credibly hurt them a lot more then your Kossars will and in the Chaos campaign that counts for a lot given how Valkia Will try and unga bunga her way through your territory real early.
It reminds me of when I'd rather have Halberdiers than Swordsmen against Dwarfs or Chaos Warriors just to inflict "some" damage through armor when they do connect.
I wish red crested skinks had the impact and feel of this unit. They are both glass cannons but the trade off for the extra speed leaves the little lads extra squishy. Also, why’s the red crest’s md so low in comparison to these guys? 19 vs 38 really hurts and the skinks are missing that juicy bonus vs large the halberds get. Oh yeah Slavs are extra thick fluff and amazing as you’ve stated and would totally accept a 1:1 with them savage chaos boys!
I’ve had a unit of these guys 1v1 Throgg before and come out on top. I’ll always have a unit or two of these guys in my army no matter what stage of the game we’re in.
All these comments and yours is the first to mention that today. I think I had something that was Polka for the Ulrika video, but yeah, I needed something just... wintry.
the last tech for global recruitment isn't specifically needed as long as you have 10+ settlements, each 10 military buildings(or settlements in this case) of same type reduce global recruit time by 1 turn for affected units
Could you cover the different skaven slingers? From low slinger to high tier slingers. And compare them to other factions archer or crossbow units? I think skaven highest tier slingers are a sleeper, and would love to see them used more
I think I've covered skavenslave slingers somewhere, but I know for sure I didn't do Night Runners or Gutter Runners. I have a script for Night Runners ready to go once I get footage, so expect to see it sometime soon. I agree they're sleepers, and that's with my old Queek experimentation without any specific buffs for them like with Clan Eshin.
What is really great about them is how much smoother it makes recruiting in the early game for Kislev. I used to recruit Kossars with Spears as my sort of line holding units for the early game since they had more melee defense but you needed a building to be able to do that and you may not want that building. So these units let you recruit your froneline and then focus on growth or something in that city. So the fact that they are good especially for a tier 0 unit is just gravy. I am constantly impressed with what they often can get away with. Granted they usually all die a horrible and entirely preventable death while doing so. To the extent where I don't really see a point for Kossars with Spears. The two of them do the same job and I don't know if having a missile weapon is really worth it.
I don't doubt it. They bring something interesting that's hard to do without, and availability is how units like this get to the top of someone's Tierlist.
Only because Kislev for some reason doesn't have any antilarge version of their mid and high-tier infantry (minus Iceguard, they better to use as range obviously). And your main enemies are Norsca and WoC, which have very dangerous cavalry and monsters.
@@КонстантинГребенков Beyond that, WoC don't have any ranged to speak of (or at least, nothing that can trade with your hybrid army of doom) and While Norsca does... they're not winning a ranged duel either so the lack of shields is just a collosal meh.
Kislev is mostly a faction that is a case of "I am a hybrid thus I am sort of good at doing both" while the very few dedicated units break those norm. Especially this unit as its a great long term anti cav.
Just my opinion, these units homogenize the roster. A faction uniquely full of hybrid units is given additional generic units and in turn lose their flavor.
@@GeorgePtacek Well, when I started out I was a lot more into my personal observations and less stats, but the vast majority of viewers preferred it this way. By being consistent people know what to expect. It's become one of those 'youtuber journey' things.
Honestly they need like a solid 6-10MD nerf so other infantry in the same class (that specialize against killing infantry...) can beat them up. That or By Our Blood needs to be like 15s in MP. It's silly enough that almost any large legendary lord will lose half or more of their life fighting a rank 1 unit of these by themselves. They perform like 700+ gold infantry if not higher.
I see the case for it, and if someone wants to argue otherwise, they can do it themselves ^^ That said, even if it's not the same tier technically, Halberdiers can wreck in a similar way.
These guys are great for dedicated early front line melee units, my standard early Kislev armies are 4 of these and the rest of the army is basic Kossar. They have enough bodies to allow my archer Kossars to unload on the target with non-ap ranged damage balancing the ap melee.
Thats quite a pivot from Tomb Kings 😊 If you compare these guys to Empire Halberdiers, you see a generally similar unit, with slighlty inferior stats, but markedly lower attack interval and By Our Blood. They provide a really cost effective early game anti-Large, armor-piercing unit.I am surprised by the relatively low number of upgrades that this unit gets in the campaign. The fact that this unit is so good, suggests to me that Kislev desperately needs a Tzar Guard Halberd unit to contend with top tier Large units.
They're way too cost-effective. A T1 unit should never have AP+AL. 38 MD is also completely overtuned for such an early unit without shields. Absolute BS design.
problem is the AI loves to spam them and because they are the kings of up-trading it just sucks to constantly be taking casualties on chaos knights and skullcrushers against 19 stacks of pissant tier 0s
@@SlaaneshChampionMako Ah, I see. You'd have to use specific anti-infantry options. Not that Khorne lacks them, but you wish you didn't have to change a powerful cavalry build to deal with a cheapo army. But such are matchups..
I'm going to include some, but I've done some of their infantry so I'm 'catching up' here with Kislev for now. Thanks for the input, I'm considering it all!
@@OffToBattle To be honest I don't mind Kislev content either. I've tried the Katarin campaign a couple times, but never got overly far before dropping it. Maybe some of your highlights will provide fresh ideas like they did for several Lizardmen units in particular
@@samarkand1585 Katarin has a good campaign, unfortunately you have to deal with both Throt and Azag early on - whoever you leave for second will be incredibly strong. Make armies with full of Kossars (use checkerboard formation) and have either a Ice Witch lord with a Patriarch or a Boyar and Ice Maiden in each, with Ice Maidens as agents to gain Devotion.
Not surprised, but then I'm "ah they're timing based on halberds" What about Kossars (spears)? I have footage, will complete the video today after doing more testing if they can brace while firing arrows (or not), but their attack interval is much slower. I don't like to assume.
@@OffToBattle Kossars (spears) have their own (goofy looking) set of animations. Pretty much all kislev units have new set of animations while using the same chaos warrior/marauder skeleton. They kinda look like they cant be bothered to attack their enemy (too tired from hunting before battle) and im pretty sure the greatweapon armored kossars share a few animations from the spears.
I squinted and they looked a little like what AD&D would call a Lucerne Hammer. I didn't see a back spike but still.. yeah, swinging a 'hammer' at armored targets would be the blunt damage meant to pierce armor. Or, using a large unit's momentum against it with the pointy part. ...Or this is copium because those are um, pitchforks with benefits.
