Yeah, I have had the same problem. I haven't thrown away my rachet straps from the 90s and even have 2 Ancra motorcycle straps from 1985. I consider the new ones to be throw away items. I can't even find Ancra brand straps at any of the dealerships near me.
I wish I would have thought about this because I would have never thrown away my old ones. I did go to Home Depot and their Husky brand straps seemed decent. There was little play in the mechanism and the teeth were sharp and not rounded over. I guess time will tell how good they are.
@@Bbernhardsr We had a 1951 Cessna 170 trucked in from Mexico strapped down with those inside a trailer. They DO seem better than most, and it made it to Arkansas without breaking loose. I may check out the Husky straps tomorrow. We used them to help trailer another 170 from Florida after that but only for small light parts. Now I want a better look! Teeth shape and thickness mainly.
