Are old Need for Speed Games Cringe??

My #1 rule if a story is cringy or not is: *Does it feel like it's from a porno.* *And unfortunately most of the live action stuff feels like it's from porn.*

NFS games have never really had good stories, they’re just fun games overall and the stories always used to help the gameplay even if they were super corny

The thing is, MW keeps you engaged on the story with Rog or Mia talking about your progress, or Razor yeah talking you. Or Cross getting increasingly pissed and threatening with the player. Everytime you beat someone they tell you either how much is missing for the next area unlock or how long was the way to that point, or you get threats or mind games from the opposing sides. In Carbon, the intervals between plot interactions are way too long, it doesn't feel as well connected and steady as MW, they dump a lot on you in very spaced periods. MW feels much better.

The bad acting in the old games is what gave the cutscenes their charm to me. I mean hell, how many times do all of us just randomly remember lines like "EVERYONEEEE" or Ronnie's super cringe intro with the hand thing and bandana 🤣

tbh, NFS The Run will stand by me being one of the greatest storylines of all time

The most cringe nfs game definetly has to be nfs payback. I remember some of the cutscenes just being straight up PAINFUL to watch.

The animated cutscenes from Underground are my personal favorite. Would love to see this style again in a NFS.

We don’t care how cringe it is now. THEN, it was the best nfs game ever to come out and had the best story and most iconic car and villain. Arguably still is. Imo it is. And we had the cutest girl🤷🏾‍♂️. They need to try to remake something along similar lines but it’s supposed to feel like it’s 2022/23.

I wish we actually got the Most Wanted 2012 that Criterion wanted to make, and not Burnout with licensed cars, though it was pretty damn fun messing with the cops in a Bugatti.

Most Wanted had the best story because of the concept of how the story was told, working your way up the ladder and taking down the blacklist felt so rewarding and like real boss fights in a racing game. It was just executed so well and the game was SO fun to play. I once spent 5 hours in a single cop chase in that game whilst on the phone to my girlfriend. These days I couldn't imagine getting a whole 5 hours to play a game in one sitting and I certainly wouldn't want to spend 5 hours on the phone to literally anyone in the world. How life changes as you grow up lol

I too think that the revenge story is really good in MW05 and works really well. You spend like only a couple minutes with the M3 GTR but you already know that it's one of a kind. When the car is taken away, it genuinely feels like something you've cared for, for years has been taken away from you. The fact that Razor made his way to the top of the Blacklist using your car only solidifies that resolve in you that you NEED to get this guy and bury his arrogant ass. When you finally get to drive the M3 again, it's one of the most satisfying moments ever. Cross is incorporated in nice manner as well. How he lets you go in the beginning thinking you're just another loser racing in Rockport and is probably gonna lose their car on the first day of street racing but slowly he learns "holy shit this guy is fuckin good"

Remember how quick the challenger in carbon was??? Almost like they knew of the plans for the demon. It smoked all cars in nfs carbon. Carbon was produced while the challenger was a concept car, from what I remember.

20:00 Theo you don't play as the old guy in Undercover. It's just like Most Wanted and Carbon where you see though the main characters eyes in the live action cutscenes.

I know Prostreet has not alot of story (or at all tbh) but the Battle machine intro is ingrained in my head so hard that i would say it had one of the most impactful introduction of any nfs games up until nfs payback and beyond.

2 things about carbon: 1: the reason why theo thinks the m3 is more powerful is because you can actually turn in that game with the car as it and the r8 Audi have unbelievable handling 2: you can technically repair the m3 by doing the most wanted challenges to use it in quick race but can’t use it in career mode

To be honest, my favorite story was NFS Heat in terms of mistery, storytelling and plot. I already know that in the franchise we can't ask for a REALLY GOOD story because of the context (races) and public target. It's almost impossible that a game like this have a good story, but i think that Heat brings another levels of layers, it takes cinematographic concepts to another level, made three dimensional characters that compliments perfectly in the atmosphere and the problems of the society like the corruption. The game dares to raise conflicts that includes important institutions like the police departement involved with illegal car/parts traffic. The big problem is that the story/game is WAY TOO SHORT and drastically cuts the story in a very involving point.

My personal favourite story was NFS 2015 just because of the car and tuning scene icons like Ken Block, Magnus Walker, Akira Nakai ect. As a car nerd theres nothing that beats that :)

My favorite are: 1. NFS Carbon, 2. NFS MW05, 3. NFS Underground 1,2 I really love the atmosphere in Carbon

They should bring back multiple save files in nfs for story replay ability, I totally forgot about the heat's prologue with the Joe

I love the story in all need for speed starting from Underground all the way to The Run (Not the Ghost era though they kinda suck) for how "bad" they are they are still immersive

It all comes down to personal preference, I for one think that carbon still has some of the best cutscenes (considering the limiting amount of cutscenes) and darius is still one of my favorite antagonists mainly on the fact that he had the power and resources to take everything from you and he knew it. He didn’t want to take your car; he wanted to take EVERYTHING and wipe you off the face of the earth. And I especially like how cocky but serious he gets depending on the situation.

Also shift kind of have a story except it’s just a follow up of prostreet indirectly and takes a more professional approach where you work out to get into the high level motorsports tournament (I’ve just started playing it and I’m actually surprised that how polished it looks than shift 2)

i think i have a good idea for 2 storys for NFS, for EA one would be a backstory before rockport on how we end up with the m3 gtr because when we leave carbon in supra we end up going to rockport but their is a timeskip between them so i think it would be a good story and second would be a prequel for the run on shaw, how he ends up in dept and his backstory i think it would be good. i think these 2 stories would be really good if they are written good

One thing Matt needs to realize is that, the M3 GTR is a race car, a one-off from the E46. So you would be spending more money sourcing and repairing parts than buying the cars in Carbon.

Kid me looked at NFS stories like Fast And Furious Movies.

I Personally think undercover has the best one, going undercover and gaining trusts from other races and then you do heel turn and basically just destroyed them. It might be other people favourite and I understand and respect that but for me undercover takes number one spot for me 😊

I wish they would show mias rx8 more in the old game. I just hope they bring back the name ryan cooper and the og model of the m3, the 180sx from prostreet and whatever else was that was driven by this character

The stroies were cringe but they wasn't trying to get serious and the story was fun or they didn't wanted to be the next Story-driven experience. At that time NFS was one of the few racing game to have cinematics like that and it was more than enough lol. Now they are trying hard (hello, Payback) to be serious or to deliver those special cinematics but they are also cringe.. If they were like the old NFS i wouldn't care at all

17:51 Damn I actually prefer Carbon's gameplay & features over MW (just my opinion) and this whole time I got the plot wrong. I didn't know the protagonist ran TO Rockport from Palmont and came back to figure everything out... I always thought after he got done with Rockport he goes to Palmont for a new expedition, made new friends and then the Supra scene happened.

Most Wanted and Carbon were the best because of the connection!

The run was awesome and so so underrated!! Sad when I had it I never had a good internet connect and could never unlock the online cars :(((

I’ve always had a place in my heart for need for speed most wanted it always been one of my favorites seens childhood playing on ps2

Heat could have beaten MW if it had more rivals with faces and didn't end so abruptly. The way you beat the most wanted racers one by one, you see them every time yo o into the challenges menu, and they all have special one-on-one races each with their associated theme song from the soundtrack. Even though they have zero dialogue, they still have that presence elsewhere.

As cringe as NFS 2015 was, by the end of it the characters actually grew on me for some reason. I just wish the dialogue was more, human… 😂

I can see why ProStreet wasn't included. That game's story of Ryan Cooper rising to the top, taking down clowns who call themselves "Kings"(Only Aki Kimura makes sense), and overthrowing Ryo Wannabe is just too generic. Not much cutscenes too, of course. Never played the game and I don't plan to cuz it's not my style but have seen a walkthrough on it.

I never played MW 05 but I’ve played U2 and it is honestly one of my favorite games in the Need For Speed series.

I remember when I played nfs carbon for the first time. Instead of the m3 getting his by the pipes it was the cross corvette so there were two on screen. It was a weird glitch.

my favorite need for speed is carbon because the gameplay felt so nice, normally i like realism but the arcady feel of both carbon and mw felt so good and the story is amazing everything about those games is amazing the reason i pick need for speed carbon over most wanted is because of the replay value, the car customization, the acting, (nostalgia) and gameplay but i do love most wanted as well but i gotta say after 30 times of playing through carbon over and over and beating darious with almost every car was so much fun ;D

So the intro to heat had a very… what pro street is to most wanted kinda vibe. We start the game with this super cool car but it gets Instantly totaled and you never get to drive it again in the story, other than somehow buying and driving it after it’s gone. I feel like we need an explanation to why this car was great and cool. A… NFS Heat prologue if you will.

Yes, they are. Cutscenes and dialogues in racing videogames are normally really cringe. FH5 and F1 games for example. But I appreciate what they did in NFS 2015 cause at least I was kinda invested into that story

Carbon is by far my favorite because I liked battling against crews and cop chases were good fun. Never got to play MW 2005. Pro Street , Heat and NFS 2015 were the only other games I truly enjoyed.

I gotta say I miss the more realistic, on the ground feel of 2015's cutscenes, especially the in game ones that look like on foot videos, the aesthetic of that game was great, I just wish the map had more to it and whatnot
