I'm from this place. What I find the funniest about this video is the fact that Europeans are more closely related to Africans than we are. How does that calculate into racism? But our traditions are much more like Asians than any other group in my opinion. I think of us as being Southeast Asian. We have all different colors of skin from white to black. We don't see things based on skin color but rather tribal and marriage affiliations. You can be a white European but if you accept our culture and can live as we do we will accept you as one of our own. So everything is cultural to us.😊 Great video!😊
@@jjsparksshow4772 you were separated from your Tribe and your identity by historic slavery so that's the way you think. As for me I am part of my Tribe so color means nothing compared to tribal affiliations. The Indonesians haven't killed anyone from PNG. West Papua is not PNG. They're on different sides of the island. In PNG black people are killed by other black people from different Tribes. Do you understand?
Sending love from Nigeria 🇳🇬 🇳🇬🇳🇬 Can't believe we Africans are genetically closer to the whites than to you guys. But as a Nigerian that I am, so long as you look like us, we love and accept you as one of our own. I would so love to visit Pupua New Guinea some day🙏
I love Papua new guinea! It's doesn't matter we're they coming from, but they are black and beautiful, they have similar history with Africa.. first they where colonized by Holland and Germany and they divided the country into 2 Papua under the Indonesia dictator. and the other New Guinea is under the influence of Australia. But we don't have to forget still in Papua people are fighting against Indonesia Army. Good luck PNG! One day you will be free and you will be Great Papua New Guinea 😊 and I come to visit your beautiful country ❤✌️🙏😘 from wukro, tigray ( Ethiopian)
We have dark skinned, brown skinned and light skinned exactly like Africans. We are AFRICANS in the Pacific like Europeans in Australia, New Zealand and America. The difference is,we came first and took ownership. I am a Proud African Papua New Guinean. According to my history we came down around 600 years ago.
Thanks and Correction my Brother, there is West Papua and Papua New Guinea.. West Papua is Under Indonesian control and are ať war right now, and Papua New Guinea is an Independent Nation which formerly during colonial days was divided into two, British Papua and German New Guinea
Most of us Papua new guineans think of ourselves as pacific islanders, we never considered skin color as a form of identity until we were told we were black by the European colonisers. 😅
A Ghanaian spoke in his native when I was studying abroad. I had to explain to him with a smile that I was a PNGean😂. So our features does resembles our brothers and sisters in Africa
The resemblance is out of this world. Almost makes the notion that PNGeans and Africans are not closely related genetically a complete lie. If you as a PNGean are to visit Nigeria, no one is gonna see or treat you like a foreigner for a single day
When I was in New Deli, my african friends ask me, which Part of Africa I come from. I said you guess, and one of them said Somalia? I told them, No, I am from PNG.
The word "black" does not necessarily mean "African", just as the word "white" does not necessarily mean "European". Therefore, they are black in any sense of the word.
Make sense 😢 look there black in of conversation! No one else has wool like hair but African Blacks and African Americans! If you need a comb and a brush daily your African Blacks
Beautiful people. I know so many Black Americans that resemble these people, even family members. But for real, if they came to America at all, they'd be considered just that, Black. And if they were to perhaps settle here, marry, and have children, they would be considered Black Americans, at least I think so. But anyway, Beautiful people.
Africa has got the same brown skinned people resembling your people all over africa ethiopia, somalia, mauritania, the peuls people, the khoikhoi, the rwandese , the touareg, ancient egyptians called nubians, everywhere people have dark, chocolate, coffee, honey and very fair complection. All life began in Africa so all varieties exit. It is the Europeans who named people Black juste for a few who were very dark skinned just like in southern India. We do not refer ourselves as black but just from this area or that area.
Exactly sis. We have never considered ourselves "black" -until the colonisers brought it with them. It's not even in our vocabulary. 😂 There are references to the shade of brown, light or dark even red and that's it!
@@malicktjmatiabeyuwi7587 fyi, PNG does have ancestral Polynesian groups that reached our island and settled in the south during a second wave of migration before they ventured out to populate the rest of the pacific. You can tell by our the two distinct language types, the Non-austronesians and the Austronesians. The latter being the Polynesian/Micronesian default which takes its roots from ancient Taiwan. This has been genetically proven. Austonesians were a sea faring people who brought with them their knowledge of pottery, tattooing, the use of obsidian for tools, tapa cloth and their exceptional sea craft building and navigational skills. All of which are shared traits from places they settled and intergrated into from as far as Madagascar in Africa all the way to the Hawaian islands. Their language is the most obvious shared commonality amongst us all. For example the word for coconut is the same all throughout. We call it "niu" in our motuan dialect as do most decedent's of the Austonesian peoples. So yes, some of us consider ourselves part Polynesian by ancestry (southern and island regions) but we consider ourselves brown skinned Melanesian due to the majority.
People in Africa also don’t identify as ‘black’. It’s not even a conversation except on a broader context when making reference to Americans/Europeans. So this conversation about how they identify is really driven from a Eurocentric perspective and if anything irrelevant - except when responding to Eurocentric descriptions.
In African counties that identify as "Arabs," like Morocco, Tunisia and so on, black nationals in those countries are mindful of their blackness; and in most Southern African countries, due to large numbers of whites settled there and due to the history of colonialism and apartheid, blacks in those countries are mindful of their blackness.
I'm from PNG and this is what I have to say about my country. Papua New Guineans were directly created by Almighty God and placed on the island country called Papua New Guinea. Our myths and legends don't even tell of migrating from some far far lands to where we are now, but we have myths about an unseen being greater than the universe who had created us and our land and everything that is in it. We are of a thousand tribes,800 plus different languages, but we all untited as one people, from our highlands to our coasts and islands. Definitely rare on the face of planet Earth. Come and witness for yourselves 😊.

Melanesians simply means black people so better all black people get connected with each other whether you have any difference or not cos other nations are united against black people everywhere you go.
They Have To Be Considered How They Say They Want To Be Considered. That Is How They Preserve Who They Are, Not By Some Color Standard Introduced By The Colonizers.
Our forefathers did not educate us this way therefore our precious history can not be jeopardized and put a stake by a white washed ideology intended for continuous monopoly.
Your statement is respectful and is taken well. We all as blacks should be aware of the emerging trends of our black history and identity rooting back to mother land. Such claims will continue building walls against our black brothers and our mother land, Africa.
They share more with ancient southeast Asia than anything. PNG islanders have genetic links with the Australian Aboriginal (Australasian) peoples. As Melanesians they share strong genetic links with Polynesians and Micronesians.
As a Papua New Guinean, this is how I would compare the different physical resemblance from the world. I would divide PNG's DNA in 3 parts, (1) Papuans share the same DNA as the Polynesians & Asians and are also know as the south Eastern Coastal people (Papuans) . Papuans have black or brown long wavey hair with a light skin color like the Tongans & New Zealanders. (2) New Guineans (Highlands & northern coast line) share the same DNA as the southern parts of African & South East Asians. They have brown skin color with black or hazel brown eyes and have soft black curly hair. (3) The New Guinea Islanders (North Coast Islanders) share the same DNA as the Indians & Southern East Asians. they are have melo color skin with blond hair and have black, brown or blue eyes. Sampla PNG stap, please addim if mi wrong lo sampla hap.
The actual Papuan is not the people from Central or Milne Bay, when we say Papuan we mean the first group of migration, which is the Highlanders, Most of MOMASE region, most of Gulf and Western.
Fact! you stated it correctly. Why showing only one Region of the country we have Four different regions that describes our identity we are one country but different in features. First of all the Coastal Region People are not one bit like the Upper Highlands region.
@@trevs9925true. Most Papua New Guineans are so I'll informed about this term. Papuans (apart from being the first wave of migration into PNG) are basically anyone who's language that does not fall in the Austronesian group, hence, all the highlands region including some coastal areas would be considered that.
I do not know of which Papua New Guineans would consider themselves as not black. That is absurd and it is the first time we hear of that. On DNA, it has not been extensively undertaken and the representative samples cannot conclusively described the entire Papua New Guinea as the populations are so diverse. There were instance of E1B1A Haplogroup been picked up around central New Britain Island which is a direct link to Africa but this has not been discussed much in scientific papers. And, there are differences between the DNA of the Highlands Papuan populations who arrived some 50K+ya and the coastal Melanesian populations who arrived thousands of years later. There is also the possibility of undocumented movement of people from unknown lands by the Dutch, Spain and Portuguese in the country which is only found in traditional folklore.
I have always felt slightly uneasy about calling myself "black". Although I am, by skin-tone, the deep connotations with the term "black" makes me feel slightly out of step when aligning myself to the cause. Our issue doesn't lie with the monarchy some 10000km away, our issues lie with the geopolitical hegemony we find ourselves in. I look at Africa and USA and think "God I am lucky I didn't go through what they went through"...or "aren't we lucky we aren't them"...and in that I think I deny that "blackness" that history tries to spread across people of black complexion. It would be disingenuous to empathise when my history hasn't been as bad as our brothers and sisters on the continent.
The best explanation so far. Keep up the good work and please do more research there's lots and lots more to learn about this Land of the unexpected, Papua New Guinea 🇵🇬👍🏼
Some PNG Melanesians have identity crisis cos they can't connect with black people in Africa and everywhere worldwide. Better Wake up Melanesians you can't self hate yourself assuming you are Asians or Caucasians.
I am proud Papua Guinea and proud to be from the Island of Pacific but not Africa.PNG people have different skin colours from black skin light skin to brown skin that's how God created us PNG unique blending with the geography of our country. ❤
Papua New Guinea is so diverse culturally with more than a thousand tribes and multilingual with 850 plus languages in the Melanesiàn region of Oceania continent. Its unique blackness resembles that of African peoples some 3000plus kilometers away. History needs to be genuinely thoroughly researched and documented on the origins of Papua New Guineans and their beloved country. Only time will surely and definitely tell by then.TA!
I think they are africans by origin but maybe there is some hidden history on some of these people or each society was created as one individual and separated by different circumstances like weather natural disasters.
Strongly disagree with the assumption that ancestors of people from PNG migrated from Africa some 30000 to 60000 years ago. many tribes of PNG have always inhabited this island. Africa is not the motherland and of all black people, never was and will never be. Many tribes from PNG have always inhabited this land mass. Maybe people from Africa were always there in Africa and we were always here in the beginning. However, regardless of who is from where you have done a great presentation highlighting the diversity of PNG and the distinction between black people around the world. Thumbs up.
If you don't agree that all black people migrated out of Africa you just a lost soul. Great Yahweh most powerful black man choose Africa 🌍 first as garden of Eden, beside other nations.
Thank you for this video. I am a Papua New guinean. Many times I try to convince my children and relatives that black race originated from Africa. With this video and revelations it confirms our origination. Thank you.
Absolutely! Even a white person who spends who spends years in the tropical sun becomes heavily tanned. And a brown Melanesian who spends years in Alaska will most definitely end up with very light skin tone and the hair texture becomes finer. Our physical features, i.e., skin tone and hair texture and even physic, are a product of our environments - and of course evolutionary factors.
Asians can't claim Melanesians cos they are first migration out of Africa. Asians and others are new race of people just arrived and concured our inheritance.
Just remember Papuans are black, but Europeans are closely related to Africans then Papuans are. In a sense, Africans and Europeans were once one big happy family and in that same period, Papuans were still a separate family from them.
@@dusmangi Papuans migrated out of Africa 50k years ago. At that time as they migrated out towards Sahul, the Ancestors of Europeans did not migrate out of Africa yet. Sad reality every outsider that want to talk about Papua New Guinea show the New Guinea side of it. Papua New Guinean, have four different regions that make up the country. Papuans or the Southern region are the fair skin people that are lighter than the New Guineans with Soft or Curly hair that settled on the Coast line of the Island. If you want to talk about Papua New Guineans, we all don't look the same. Sad when we Papuans known as the Southern region people travel outside of the country people think we are Fijians or Samoans or other Pacific Islanders that have fair skin tone with long hairs. Because the world think we all look like the Highlands region.

Black or white is really just a descriptor IMO. In the US, there is black culture, so it’s an identity for some, but it often doesn’t include African immigrants. I would refer to a PNG as black because they look black. I use it as a descriptor just like tall short, blond hair, red hair, black hair, male, female, etc.
Them are some of the first people that left the African continent Stop believing what white people tell you they are running around, saying the Coyson Bushmen are Caucasian and the Buntu expansion push them out of their Range just.
@starchildthesupertrucker3.242 Caucasians are the ethnic groups immediately in and around the Caucasus Mountain range, _specifically._ They are the *only* people for whom the term "Caucasian" actually applies. It's otherwise an incorrect, outmoded, and inaccurate term when applied to people outside that geographical area. Oh, and it's *Khoisan,* not "Coyson." They are an ethnicity, as are the *!Kung San,* of the Khoekhoen and the Sān peoples. Play politics elsewhere.
Papua New Guineans do not consider themselves as "blacks." We look beyond colors. We're beautifully tanned by God, which is envied by whites. Origins referenced to Africa but no DNA translation that relates to Africa so Papuans can be uniquely defined as Melanesians which the Melanesians DNA can be found in all the pacific islanders Polynesians and Micronesians and into the SE Asians and some genetics yet to be defined today so black islanders sounds fine

Even the Bantu speaking agriculturists were a diverse bunch gentically.
After reading some of the comments, one observation is SERIOUSLY missing: climate and diet affects the human body. Over thousands of years, human migration toparts of the world has an affect, but the same perspective can be said of the African continent! All Africans do NOT look alike. The narrator was comparing dark skin Asians and Pacific Islanders to West Africans ( e.g., body hair), not acknowledging that East Africans and Southern Africans sometimes carry that trait! What I can say is that the country has many traditions, colours, and multi languages in d world at large, so they are more of Asian base on there tradition and they have also black skin nd brown skin which is also Africa colour, so they are frm both Indonesia, India nd Africa side. But for the fact that there culture is Asian that is there root, but some will by lineage come frm Africa .
no matter how you wanna cut it, these people migrated out of Africa over 70,000 years ago, but by some reasons that science is yet to fathom, the African features are still visible.
No one in Oceania is black. Black is a term given to people of English standards. People in the Pacific Islands are distinctive and should not be compared to Africans or Europeanised black Christians.

While the diverse race in Asia could be a mixture of homo sapiens and Denisovans species. the dark race in Asia and Pacific including Indigenous Australia and New Zealand did not come from other parts of the world accept from that land making up the diverse human race.
