Are People Being Forced Out of Retirement? 

We experienced the pinnacle of our era, but it is now gone. Like what happened to Rome, the corrupt administration will bring this nation to an end. My condolences go out to anyone who is close to retiring and may be worried about whether their pension will be enough to pay the rising cost of living. Insane fiscal policy, poor regulatory policy, poor energy policy, and poor foreign policy

My grandfather passed away 2 years ago at 85 and was still working daily. He got open heart surgery and was back to work in weeks, even after a knee replacement. The man worked until his last week on earth. He was a handyman that helped low income individuals who some would scam him and not pay him for his time and supplies. The government and world doesn’t care for old people and its pretty pathetic.

This should NOT be happening. America should be ashamed for not looking after their elders.

As a disabled mom of 3, I understand this. Unfortunately I can't even deliver food, trying to make ends meet is starting to look impossible 😕

This world sucks so bad. We have made life so stressful, and not enjoyable anymore. Money, money, money. I hate it so much.

I’m a disabled veteran and wounded warrior. The VA is taking away benefits from totally disabled veterans through our caregiver program due to lack of funding and it is hurting so many of us, to the point that they actually had to release a letter to these veterans about how to deal with the thoughts of suicide. Also inflation is draining everyone, I don’t have any more money to spend at the end of the month for anything. I’m almost at a point where I have to sell my house and give up my American dream even though I fought for it and literally gave my body for. I am so disappointed in this administration that is absolutely obliterating the lower and middle classes.

This is the reality of our society and it breaks my heart. It’s broken and they can’t take of the elders anymore. I regard myself a lucky man, I retired at 63 with very little saved up due to bad planning & foresight. Good stewardship and good luck has grown it to about 750K. I told my money guy, “I don’t know if I’m retiring for good, but I’m retiring for now.” Haven’t looked back since.

We're out here signing bills for 40billion dollars of relief to ukraine when we cant even keep our seniors retired. smfh

I'm 66, worked in customer service for 48 years so I've done my time. I refuse to work again in that hellish "career" so I'm managing on a very small social security check ($922/mo) and I'm very fortunate, and grateful, to have housing assistance, although I don't qualify for food stamps. I believe every retired person who is very low income should have housing and food assistance.

The answer is yes. My mother retired 3 years ago and she is 70 and already is talking about getting another job. Woman worked her ass off and took care of me alone financially and it breaks my heart that she can’t just chill after all that time. She’s beginning to show signs of Alzheimer’s which runs in her family as well but I can’t pay her bills. It’s really disgusting what this world is coming to.

It’s so heartbreaking to see these old people working, to make money, so they can survive. Feeding people inside America is hard but supporting the war with billions dollar is easy.

1950's retirement 50 1970s retirement 55 1990s retirement 60 2020s retirement 65 2100s retirement? You're not allowed to retire. Also 2100s: Your mortgage needs your child to be approved, because the average mortgage now is 60 years or "multi-generational mortgages" How the rich would love that enslavement.

This sucks so much, I feel bad for the elderly because now they have to dedicated their entire life to make money.

I'm scared of getting old. Scared of health issues, dying, lack of funds after retirement, and nursing home.

my dad retired 20 years ago and had to start working again too. breaks my heart because they should be able to relax and enjoy life instead of worrying about having to work.

I just got out of prison the past year and man I’m taking a below minimum wage job and we gotta do what we gotta do keep strong y’all 💙

As a teenager you understand the feeling of I probably should do food delivery in order to have money while I don’t have a job. It’s sad having to see a senior do it because they’re in the same position

Damn!! Unfortunately this is LIFE, I'm 33 and in middle school I remember teachers saying there will be no social security for us, they was not lying!! Seeing elderly coming out of retirement and seeing what my grandmother goes thru, it's rough to get old and not be able to get around... It just sucks and it's sad

Guess it depends if they have a private pension or only have social security. Here in the uk I think everyone under the age of 45 doesn’t expect there will be social security when the time comes for us to qualify for it (or the age limit is pushed well higher than it currently is)

My dad was in retirement for like what a year. He’s 74 going on 75 still working. Same with my mom she’s going on 69. (My parents became “old” parents when they adopted me around 20 years ago). They’re gonna work until they die and I feel so bad for them because they should not be working at their age.

But we have BILLIONS of dollars to send to a country across the world to help them fight a war we're not involved in.

I work in a nursing home and it honestly baffles me that the residents here and everywhere in my location (central midwest) have to pay a minimum of $4500 a month for a studio apartment. And too be clear I work in one of the nicest nursing homes I’ve ever seen in my state, so if for some reason you get to that age of retirement where you can’t afford to stay at home. Your only other option most of the time is to move into a state run senior living or nursing home. I’ve worked in a few and I can’t begin to describe the depressing looming vibe that’s always around.

My grandpa is 78 and still working part at Walmart as a cashier/greeter. He does this 3 days a week. I think working even when retired allows you to live longer and keeps you motivated.

The US isn't a retirement type country. Once you retire, try to move out the country to lesser developed areas and live middle class/rich there instead.

The part where he said "i think i have 10 more years but as long as i can do it ill keep workin" kinda got to me. Thats so sad not only awaiting their time but also having to work at their age when theyve already put in their work throughput their life.

I've been having to go without eating so I can feed my two kids, I bought 6 bags of groceries the other day and it costed me $200. I really just want to cry.

We're dying of the heat in Florida too, it's been crazy humid lately, so it feels like 120 degree's, and everyone is struggling..It's sickening. It feels like we're in hell. My parent's retired, and now my mom is looking for work. They worked very hard their entire life, it shouldn't be like this.

I feel bad for those folks who got forced out of retirement. That's truly sad. I'm still young, but if I live to be a senior citizen I hope I don't suffer that same fate too. I'm tired of working so much already. I still have the energy to work, but I miss the balance of being able to have fun during my days or hours off. I still have positive experiences in my life, but hardly any genuine excitement anymore.

Like minded single seniors should live together and pool their resources. Not only would the cost of living be shared but the chores of cooking, cleaning etc…would be shared and lighten the load.

When I order pizza there's an old lady who can barely walk up the steps to deliver.....I'm always tipping her big even with the little money I have we have to help one another sometimes

The reality of this. You're not alone I myself and seeking to go back to work and not afford to live on my income as I am retired. Shaking my head. Where did we go wrong with the society

I moved my mom in with me so now I have pressed shirts clean baseboards home cooked meals daily reiteration of my failures and regrets plus I'm now seeing a therapist. Of course she brought her cats.

This is very terrifying my mothers boyfriend who’s in the military was dragged out of retirement to help supply troops and resources for ukraine and now I’m heavily worried that my father that works in the airport won’t be able to retire at all if the inflation keeps up like this.

If you're looking for where to place the blame for such situations, it's Greed. Greed uses politics, social issues, distraction, & strife like a construction workers uses tools bcuz it gets the job done. The job being gaining. Greed always wants to be gaining. That's it's thing.

We’re going to work till we’re dead

My mother served in the Army for 28yrs until she retired from there but she’s always had to work. This isn’t new for a majority of people.

I have an autoimmune illness. One of my medications copay is almost $1800, for 4 doses every 4 weeks. Currently, the maker of the drug has a co-pay program that offers up to $15000 a year for assistance, if you have the right insurance. I would still be responsible for covering 3.5 months of copay per year. I work full time and have corporate insurance, I’ve also saved up money to afford those last few months. If I were on Medicare, monthly copay is $800, with no-copay assistance. If I want to live somewhat normal and functioning for the rest of my life, I need to take this medication, which keeps pain to a mid/low level. My biggest fear is that if I stop working or retire, I won’t be able to afford it. I can’t hang my hopes on social security, which is running out. Basically, unless I save up enough money, win the lotto or move to another country that doesn’t have a high cost of living/crazy medical costs, I’m going to end up working until I die. That thought hella sucks.

At first, I felt a little bad that he had to DoorDash for a living...then I realized he's living in Palm Springs and now I don't feel so bad.

Here in Australia retirement isn't a possibility. They decided instead to tell older pensioners to either get a job or use retirement money to open a business that will more than likely go bankrupt within the first year. Our government can't even decide whether or not we're in recession. Apparently our government is bankrupt but as soon as Australians point out how we shouldn't be they retracted their statements via the press. Not even our journalist can do their jobs properly and report the news. Too busy talking about Paris Hilton spraying poor people with perfume and claiming that she's doing a good thing, pretty sure those kids would've preferred food instead of a useless perfume they'll never afford and never see again.

I work two days a week, in addition to social security benefits. Not rich but so far so good. I know it's hard for many others and hope that the situation improves.

It breaks my heart every time I see an elderly person making deliveries. What have we done wrong in the world? This is not OK. And Bidens America is making this worse on the elderly.

It’s definitely sad to see it happening to old people now, but the same is happening to us as well. Social Security will be spent before a lot of us can use it, saving more now is tough with inflation, so we’ll be right with this dude.

The history behind the original reason for “retirement” was to make way for younger workers. The concept of retirement is not applicable across the world. In many places you work until you die or your adult children support you financially, if they can.

Not the case for everyone but always always treat ur kids nicely. Don't be too strict, don't be the type of kick them out and show them the respect they deserve.

Damn ! I live in Palm Springs I recognized my city real quick. Everyone is leaving the big cities like LA and have moved to the valley. Housing has never been so expensive here. This breaks my heart. Hope there is something we could do for our seniors.

I may have 10 years left, sounded scary and sad at the same time. Can't believe how fast life goes. A ton of us don't really think about it, because that's how we control our insanity. But think long and hard people. We only get one shot at it, and it definitely doesn't last very long. Can't believe I'll be 40 yrs old in one more yr. Just not to long ago I was 16 yrs old. What tf happened 😔😢

My daughter's friend, works 40 hours a week making $22.00 an hour, is doing Uber eats 3 days a week to keep up, he pays my daughter $20.00, to be a co pilot, and help's him with directions.

Yeah in Germany you see nearly every 3rd grandfather searching for plastic bottles to get 25Cents for each one. You see old people that served the country and paid taxes sticking there heads into a dumpster to see if they can find plastic or Glas bottles. It makes me angry that some people get a refugee status and monthly money and paid housing but old people have to do this. That’s why Germany is politically so split right now.

It's all part of the "System." Only a few and the privilege can beat it. 💯

A reminder to all youngsters right now. Work your ass off in your 20/30 and make enormous amount of money so by the time you retire you’ll never have to worry a single day about money. Your 9-5s isn’t going to secure you that luxury when you’re old. Your government doesn’t care about you.

Younger generation wants their tuition paid for when they have a whole life of earnings to pay for it. These seniors deserve the funds to retire with dignity after working their whole life.

I'll always take care of my parents when they get old. They put up with my dumbass for 28years. It's the least I could do. I'll work 4 jobs before I let my old parents work again.
