No not really. We are in an era of pokeom cards where all sets are highly overprinted, card values drop constantly with alot of the time the most expensive card being half the price of a booster box. We are in an era where everyone buys booster boxes (or even cases) Just to keep them for later reselling. Meaning I can still buy older sets like darkness ablaze for less than msrp. Also you can buy entire sets for $400 to $700 euro. That is 3/5 boxes. So unless you wait 25 years you are not gonna make much money of of it, unless the set is shortprinted.
At least you can play sealed by a friend or solitaire 2 decks if you lose. Just get some energy cards. But yeah I wouldn't go too into pokemon as a lot of effects are derivative lol. Hau is power crept Bill and there are many other versions let alone Sonia power crept a ton too. I am glad evolutions are easier to play than in those dark age Haymarket days with no searches like timer ball.
@tedmcforehead3405 they aren't intended by the company to be sold and flipped like knick nacks, people just put arbitrary prices on them because 😮 OMG rare and sparkly!!!!
@@JamesThePokemonHunterand all the energies are worth 50 cents to a dollar at swapmeets because the kids that play get to pick out the energies they want
@@drooploop5018 How so? I post videos about the value of cards but no where do I advocate value being the most important aspect of collecting. Calling it a scam insinuates that if you don't pull something that sells for more then you paid then you were ripped off. People who play pokemon competitively will understand where I'm coming from.
@@vicentegeonix 95% of my content has no pricing and the videos that do are because it kind of ranks the cards in a way. But again, no where did I say value was important at all. No true Pokémon fan cares if its a $90 card or a 90 cent card, we just wanna fill out binders and pull the cards that are competitive in tournament play. We collect for the love of Pokémon not because the card has value. Most have almost zero value to be honest
@@vicentegeonix and I'm sorry. You will never catch me dead posting a video claiming I'm trying to make my money back off opening Pokémon Cards. No one makes money way, that's lemonade stand type of money. 😅
That’s one type of person with Pokémon cards. It’s his choice, after all. I enjoy collecting for the money but also for playing and building decks to play. But everyone has their choice on what to do. If he wants to rip all of them apart, he can. It’s his choice, after all
IT CAN BE MEANT TO BE SOLD THATS WHY THEY HAVE A FRICKING GRADING SYSTEM AND ARE WORTH MONEY “its not meant to be sold” YOUR SAYING NOBODY SHOULD SELL THEIR CARDS? YOU SAY I SHOULD SPEND $500 DOLLARS FOR A PACK TO GET A $1000 CARD AND RIP BEND AND ALL THAT AND DESTROY THE CARD WHILE PLAYING WITH IT INSTEAD OF SELLING TO PAY FOR IMPORTANT THINGS?!?!
Absolutely never open boosters or buy boxes or bundles for anything more than fun and maybe the promos. Figure out what you want to buy and stick with singles as much as possible. You are statistically likely to spend less money doing so, as a collector or player. Don’t bother selling unless you are willing to buy tons of cards. Basically… own a card shop or run an ebay store or don’t bother betting on a recoup. I promise the pull rates will screw you way more than they don’t, and you’ll just end up with a bunch of worthless bulk after you sold all your decently priced cards.
@@Tyfun76 I mean have fun but if you’re trying to make money on cards, buying and selling singles is a lot more reliable, and that’s saying a lot because it’s very easy to lose money on expensive singles
@@Tyfun76 nope rayquaza alt art from evolving skies is $380 but it’s a 1/1800 packs card. Definitely cheaper to buy the $380 card then open 1800 packs at 4 dollars a pack. Factor in the evolving skies packs are $15 each, singles for life mate.
@@Tyfun76 Absolutely not. If the card is going for $200, it's because it costs way more than $200 to pull it on average. Pulling packs for it makes as much sense as buying lottery tickets.
A big thing when opening Pokémon cards is you have to check the set list to see if it’s even possible to get your money back. Currently with Scarlet and Violet base, the most expensive card is around 50$, but with a set like Brilliant Stars or Obsidian Flames, they have cards with 100$ plus value.
But most of the time, the real value comes with grading cards or keeping the box sealed. Really, opening a booster box is just a fun way to open lots of packs and see what cards are inside, regardless of the value!
Bro really called it a scam when he spent money on something that brought him joy and made him even more money by making this video, he does not deserve to call it a scam since it’s not
I am on team it’s not a scam but grading card even for the full art one tend to be a waste for the fact that it’s like 100$ to get the card graded. Let say the cards 10$ and after graded it gets a 10 and is 108$ your still losing money 😊
Na zenith is pretty bad most expensive card is 20 bucks then drops off to like 8 for the second most expensive better luck with fusion strike most expensive is 200 raw second is 130 raw
@@MrTedMcForeheadthat miraidon in a psa 10 usually goes up to 80+ for bids. Those ex’s in psa 10’s usually go for 20-50+ Some hollows in the set (darkrai, entei, etc) go for 30-60+ in psa 10’s. Bro definitely made his money back
this is why people who buy cards to purely sell by thousands of boxes. the chance of puling the most expensive card in the set is extremely rare. also people who buy them to sell is why its so hard for anyone else to get any cards. and its also driven up the card theft rate in stores.
You should really only open these types of boxes for the fun of it. The pull rates aren't meant to consistently allow profit. However, I've noticed that with the increased pull rates of the Scarlet & Violet era, it's feasible to consistently pull the set's chase (at least from the boxes I've opened). Pulling a card like this and grading/selling it early is quite profitable.
It's not a scam. It's like playing a slot machine. It's just about luck. You can buy one pack and get a card for $100 and then open 36 and get cards for a total of $20. It's just about luck.
Pokemon is not meant for making money, its made for a boost of adrenaline and building a deck to fight your enemies in the real game. You can also try to collect cards and put them into a binder and complete the set by getting each and every card in a set. Pokemon is a scam in the sense that you probably wont make your money back when you buy something like this, but its not made for investing in, its made for fun.
Pokémon packs are more of a lick base as from a seven dollar pack you could pull a 56$ card which happened to me so you don’t really win money or lose money collectively as a collector
It’s only a scam if it says you’re guaranteed something good or to get your money back. In this box nothing was guaranteed so you didn’t get scammed. The only thing you got scammed was for the bad luck you have
Imagine a world where grown ass adults take a children's card game and ask "Is it a scam? Can I literally open up these packs of cards and resell them for a profit on the open market?"
First of all, scarlet and violet is not a good set to get if you want to make money, second of all, if you grade those cards they may actually be worth some good money, third of all, Pokémon doesn't set the prices, they may have an estimate of what cards will be more valuable but they aren't scamming you, Pokémon is supposed to be a fun card game that you can collect things for and I feel like greed and wanting to make money has overridden the community to the point where people start acting like it's a lottery, just open packs and have fun, don't go into it just for money.
Do more research before buying a booster box. Scarlet and violet base is the worst set to make money from. The set is more for collecting and not the resale market. The most expensive card in the set is only around $50. Sets i recommended to make money are lost orgion, evolving skies, and silver tempest. These sets have very decent pulls and most of them are worth some cash!
The reason why people enjoy Pokemon so much is because of the fact that they can get so rare that eventually they just get to the point where they're thousands of dollars
People got to take it easy with Pokémon cards. They're not lottery tickets. You're collecting them because you like the Pokémon games and you want to collect specific Pokémon or unless you're just a straight up Pokémon card collector at the end of the day, it's just cardboard
lately they been really doin booster boxs bad - they used to fill them with full arts used to be able to get a decent amount but no more - also its a rip when they add engery cards and code cards they could use those for full arts. And if they wanta add engery and code cards put them in seperate package. thats why I love japanese boosters honestly - granted they dont have as many but you not gettin bunch of engery and codes
A scam is something advertised that it will make you money. Pokemon company doesn’t say you’ll get rich flipping their cards if you buy them. Toxic resellers think that they should get rich from a children’s game.
Its more of a long game thing. In the beginning the prices are pretty high because a new set and all that jazz. Then the prices drop because the more there will be more on the market and traded then comes the fluctuation where it goes up and down bij a few cents/dollars depending on the state but it slowly goes upwards because there will be no production of it and people lose it or got damaged because of floods, bad storage and that kind of stuff
This is like spending $140 on lottery tickets, you know the odds of making your money back aren't exactly in your favor. The difference is the collecting or playing the card game the people enjoy. In the end you can still make some money back compared to a scratcher or losing number lotto ticket.
Listed price is one thing and what buyers will pay is another. Most cards under 50-100,you might get 25%-50% of the listed value.Especially on newer cards.
As a personal collector a booster box and extra money for lets say a binder and sleeves is a really good investment with most of the cards he pulled he could complete the set and have it to battle, or even sell after some years. Leave your thought I don't know.
People trying to make money off of Pokémon or Magic cards have actually ruined the hobby. They have driven up the prices and made it damn near impossible for people who play the game or just collect the cards to get the cards they need.
If you wanna get your money back you wanna be smart. Consider packs that have good cards and good pull rates, like crown zenith and Pokemon 151 for example. Scarlet and violet base set is not a good set to buy.
Ya you got the wrong box, Scarlet and Violet basset isn’t the best one to get you should’ve picked crown zenith or silver Tempest so yeah, I’ve been collecting since 2017
That’s why smart people who are familiar with the tcg, stay away from scarlet and violet sets. The Pullrates are bad, the retail price is higher while the value of the cards are lower, the art doesn’t compare to sword and shields later sets and etc. one very nice redeeming quality of scarlet and violet is very few cards are quite beautiful and some are just worth a LOT of money (any waifu immediately bumps the cost up)
Pokémon cards are not meant to be collected for their value but if you want to they can, the reason the pack is so expensive compared to the cards you got is you are supposed to use the cards in the trading card game
$50 = immediate resell value $90 = personal enjoyment Dude, tell me any new product you can just open and touch and expect to resell at its original retail price. 😂😂
The TCG is actually fun to play, but if you are trying to make money out of the cards it will be like playing in a casino, either you get rich or you barely get any money back
