I understand what you are saying but is it wrong to want to put God's beautiful words inside a beautiful bible? Israel built God a beautiful Temple. I can't afford a premium bible but I would get one if I could. The most important thing in a bible is not what's on the outside it's what is on the inside.
It’s no different than choosing a piece of furniture that is made of wood vs pressboard. They are both functional but the wood is going to last longer and is going to cost more. People wouldn’t bat an eye if someone chose to spend more on the wood furniture but somehow are unable to apply the same reasoning when it comes to a Bible. The most important thing is actually use our Bibles and keep within our monetary limits. If you are ever in doubt as to whether you should buy something or not, that may be your cue to pray and ask God if that something you ought to do.
The reason I buy premium bibles is because they last for generations. I have bought Humble Lamb bibles for my daughters their husbands and my 5 grandchildren. This way each on can pass it down to my future great grandchildren.
For me I love well made things that will last long and reliable.. I only have two premium Bibles for my.daily use. The cost of premium Bibles are materially cheaper compare to mid range smartphones nowadays.
Awesome discussion man! Yeah I agree you don’t NEED a premium, it’s just a nice way to be able to read and keep a Bible for a long time. If you never read the Bible and just like buying them you may want to think about what your doing, but if you read the Bible then cool. I can understand a stance for and against them and I know it mostly stems from the price
It would be nice to have a Premium Bible, sure. But I can live without them. My Bible is a Thomas Nelson Leathersoft KJV Center Column Reference Bible that my mother gave me for my birthday back in May and I am perfectly happy with it. It feels good in my hand and it's easy to read and I love how the pages feel. It has lined note paper in the back so I can take notes. The only thing is, I have to fold the back cover over to be able to write on it, and it has thumb tabs that I don't particularly care for, but I can live with them. Yeah, it would be nice to have the art gilding and the genuine leather smell and all that stuff you get with Premium Bibles. (I'm not sure if "Premium" should be capitalized or not), but that's not what's important. To me, having a Premium Bible with all that stuff is like going to IHOP and ordering pancakes with a bunch of fruit and whipped cream and chocolate syrup. Just give me pancakes with butter and syrup. And like you said, the important thing is what's on the pages between the covers. Nobody's ever been saved by a genuine leather cover or fancy art gilding.
It’s like this with pocket knives too in the EDC community. I see all these beautiful knives all over IG, but I’m happy with my $40 Kubey. But my bible is a premier collection NKJV. The way I see it is that it’s what it’s about what’s important to you and how long you want that thing to last. Whether it be a bible, knife or whatever. (Caveat to all that, it only matters if you can afford it.)
I am enjoying my Schuyler NASB wide margin. It is just perfect for keeping a record of my personal relationship with God. I was afraid to use it at first but now I am really using it. I can’t wait to see it just full of my notes and well used. God bless you 🙏🏻
