To make this more accurate you'd have to 1)use same driver 2)warm the tyres on the regular car and 3)go without a passenger. Just sayin... ;)

The most uneven way to compare the two. Two different drivers 1 lap with a passenger 1 with a flying start 1 with a standing start WTF

i wonder what "stock" clio would do with those racing tires, and no passenger.

So to summarize some comments here. She started over the line while going flat out, he started from stand still. She was in the street car adding weight. The tyres should have been the same for the test. Should have been the same driver for both cars.

Silly race! The road car has 2 people in it. That's at least 80kg heavier.

Rolling start, less weight with one driver, what's the point of comparing?

What a joke!!!! I have been on at least 10 official renault track days, 1 lap in a clio RS race car as a passenger. Race cars are are on a different planet.

I never got how you can do these sorts of comparisons with one of the cars on slicks....the amount of grip you get off a slick is actually terrifying

The Road Clio is a R.S. 200EDC of frist generation, must be a Clio R.S. Trophy 220EDC of second generation (are very different cars, I had been one) against the Renault Clio Cup. If you want do this thing, do it well or not do it.

1:49.7 , actually disappointed with that , I thought it would be quicker tbh, managed 1:47.5 around there in a big fat Holden V8, I really would have expected the Clio to dominate a car like that around Cadwell ? Phil wasn't exactly hanging around either !!

Been laughing along with top gear all these years, but now they seem a bit old in the tooth and a lot un-PC, and I realise that the 5th gear team is really lovely, down to earth, and so technical in comparison. It's a shame that top gear always stole the limelight with their brashness.

The question is how old is that test? Cause.... The 200 edc clio is shit. But there is a clio rs trophy 220edc with the same specs like the "race car" and its absolutely street legal. For comparison the trophy drives at around 8:30 around the nurburgring. The normal 200 edc is more then 30 seconds slower....

1 person slicks and a flying lap, a moron may have bet against the track car , it would of been a lot closer with both laps from a standing start

More power,more grip and no passenger, if they had the same tyres and no passenger in the road car then the gap would have come right down to around 2 seconds

running lap vs standing start? only there you got like 2-3 sec advantage... what a bs test. the fact is race car is reinforced mostly because stock one wouldn't handle more than 2-3 laps with race pace. It'd overheat and gearbox must've been replaced every second or third race weekend...

Most race cars have regulations and sometimes have roll cages and other things that bring weight back up after weight reduction. So in some cases the street version is faster if not just build it faster!! Lol

We all knew the answer, but we still watched because we wanted to see the attempt, right?

5 seconds I would give it to the street car. Heavier on street tyres with 2 people. The person has got to be worth 3-4 seconds alone. Don't know why they did that other than the street car was faster so the put in the passenger to slow it down.

That's not how you do a fair comparison, FG. Same driver, only one person in the car, warm up both tires before the timed laps. The fact that you guys are re-uploading old content clearly shows that the new Fifth Gear, especially after Tiff Needell left, was absolute trash.

80kg lighter due to no passenger

I couldn't watch this to the end, she's insufferable. But it's obvious which one will win. The race car has more power and better tyres. In the road car she was a passenger probably adding 80kg, and it still has all seats which could add another 70kg. That's probably 10% of the car's weight. Plus she got a rolling start and he didn't. When they make trash videos like this, you just know they swapped drivers and ran different laps until they got the time they were looking for - it's probably a paid advertising trick.

Does anyone really think a racing car that costs more than double that of the road car its based upon is going to be slower around a track than the road car which has an extra passenger in it and is starting from a stand still vs a flying start for the race car? What a totally pointless video.
