When you are new to Red Cherry Shrimp keeping, there is so much information, and misinformation, that it can be hard to know which is which.
I don't think Red Cherry Shrimp keepers need to worry about;
1: Water Temperature
2: Substrate
3: What to feed Red Cherry Shrimp
4: How many shrimp they should start with
5: Algae in the shrimp tank
I have been keeping and breeding shrimp for the past few years, and, at the time of recording, I have spent the last two years making a sizable income each month from breeding shrimp.
During this time, I have picked up several tips and tricks to help more baby shrimp survive to adulthood. In this video, I share those tips and tricks with you!

I saw one of my cherry shrimp harassing my male betta fish named Skippy because he’s skittish and non aggressive, been like that since I bought him, but a cherry shrimp was harassing him, so I immediately scooped him up and put him in my blue dream shrimp tank, if it happens again I’ll likely remove all cherry shrimp and find a way to get rid of them, then replace the sanitation crew with blue dream shrimp since they are noticeably smaller and more calm. I remember another experience with ghost shrimp attacking and killing one of my fish right in front of me, so I’ve always since avoided ghost shrimp, I hope I do not have to have the same feelings against cherry shrimp as ghost shrimp, this only began once I added more hiding spots, and I’ve never seen any aggression between the betta and the shrimp until today.

@cweber9112 I'd definitely recommend 6 or more, they're expensive in the UK to which is annoying. I added 6 recently to a new tank and they started cleaning and exploring almost instantly and are really active constantly.

@@cweber9112here they're around 7-12$ each depending on color, but I found a few places online selling em as low as 1$/each for 20 so now I have a colony of 24 after the extras they shipped incase any died in transit and am planning to sell them for a couple dollars each to my lfs once my colony grows

I love(!) my red cherry shrimps! I've just moved them to a bigger aquarium and can't stop looking at them exploring their new home 😁However, learning more, it seems like maybe the caridina would be even better for my aquarium than the neocaridina, since the water in the actual aquarium doesn't have the same ph/kh/gh as it have when it's directly from the tap. It feels a bit scary, because I've heard so much that beginners should always go for neocaridinas since they're easier... And yes, they do well, but that's because the water is stabile, I don't even have to do water changes, I just fill it up when needed (I don't use a lid). So, a lot of text for just a simple question: Is caridinas more difficult than neocaridinas, if you have the right water for the caridina?

I have to write a comment once again. My shrimps mostly are doing well in the new aquarium. And they're many. However, two days ago one of them died, and today another one died. I don't know why, and the ones who are still alive seem happy and energetic. I've tested the water and everything seem to be fine and as usual. One thing that I did notice at one shrimp a few days ago was that he looked a bit "shiny", and maybe a bit bleach. It might be that one who died now, I'm not sure since they're pretty good at hiding and I'm never seeing everyone all at once... But what to do to avoid more shrimps to die? Are the ones dying just old? (I don't know their age, but they both were adults) or do my water tests missing some parameters that are important?

Hey Richard, I just noticed some of my RCS in my planted shrimp tank have many long white leeches attached and wiggling! Please help! Salt dip won't eradicate them completely I don't think. I've seen mixed opinions on No Planaria too for leeches.

@FishKeepingAnswers hmm thanks, but I don't think the sucking worms mentioned in the article are what I have. The ones I have are all over the body and are long and white. An article shows a picture of the same thing and says it's leeches. Do you have a discord so I can maybe share some pictures?

@@heartsonchannelI use a product called esha ndx its a dewormer that's supposed to kill off intestinal worms, I've found it to be effective on all of the kinds of worms I've so far encountered including Planaria either wiping them out completely or at least keeping there numbers right down. Cherry shrimp seem unaffected as do my ramshorn snails. Check it out there's information about it online. Hope it helps

I’m thinking about having a few 90L tubs in my basement and fill them with shrimp but the only issue is the water temp down there is averaging round 8 degrees Celsius… Is this too cold for shrimp and will I need to get a heater?

Thanks for all the helpful info. I just got a 10 gallon tank for Christmas and plan on starting a cherry shrimp colony. Should I start my colony with the highest grade color? If I start with say Bloody Mary’s will the colors breed true over time or will they degrade over the generations and end up with a bunch of clear shrimp? I doubt I will do any culling so I’m just wondering how good the color grade stays over time. Thanks for sharing your expertise with the world.
@FishKeepingAnswers
@FishKeepingAnswers 5 месяцев назад
Hi. Thanks for taking the time to get in touch. If you don’t plan to do any culling, don’t start with Bloody Mary shrimp. To maintain a high quality colony requires a LOT of culling. Without culling, your colony of expensive shrimp will soon breed itself down to a very ordinary Red Cherry shrimp. Good luck either way 🤞🏻

Is under gravel filter okay for Neo shrimp? And can you gravel vacuum shrimp tanks once in awhile or will that cause a bacterial bloom and kill them? Nice video I enjoy your content!!! Keep up the good work!!
@FishKeepingAnswers
@FishKeepingAnswers 5 месяцев назад
Undergravel filters are excellent for Neo Shrimp. Yes, you can gravel vacuum. Gravel vacuuming won’t affect the beneficial bacteria living in the gravel and wont cause a bacterial bloom. 👍🏻

Hi. Neocaridina shrimp (Cherry shrimp) like hard water, whereas Caridina Shrimp (crystal bees etc) like soft water. If you have hard water, go for Cherry Shrimp 👍🏻

@HongQuiLu
@HongQuiLu 5 месяцев назад
@@FishKeepingAnswers when I watch videos on YT shrimpkeepers(maybe only caridina?) talk about resetting their tanks when they think there isn’t nutrients in their substrate anymore. They reset when the side glass stops being green. And I was wondering if it is something me as a normal fish keeper also has to think about. Ps happy new years 🎆
