When you are new to Red Cherry Shrimp keeping, there is so much information, and misinformation, that it can be hard to know which is which.

I wouldn't have put shrimp in my tank if not for your channel. I have kept fish on and off (mostly on) since 1998 until a move in 2016 made me take a step back from the hobby. You made it seem approachable. As an experiment I threw an order of 10 in with my blue ramshorns. So far (about 60 days in) the 9 that arrived alive are still 9(but considerably larger now). No babies that I can tell but no deaths either. But there is a huge chunk of java moss, wood, leaves, cones, etc so in time I hope to see more. Though to be fair it is a no heater and no filter tank. So, at this time of year on the east coast in the US the tank is only about 69-71 throughout the day/night cycle. We shall see how things go! As an aside, I'm really a snail guy at heart. I love my Mystery snails but my ramshorns are fascinating too. I have pinks/reds and blues. But they throw all kinds of weird color patterns with babies. Blue spotted are my favorite. I also have Malaysian trumpet snails and am looking into White Wizard snails as well as other trapdoor species.

Stinging Nettles. Blanched in boiling water for 60 seconds then dropped into the aquarium. They go bonkers for it 🥳

Hi. It will soften the water, but unless it is incredibly hard, I wouldn’t worry (for shrimp I mean) 👍🏻

Imo every day or 2. Feed a cube and see how long it takes them to consume it.

I usually feed mine once every 3-4 days because there’s plenty of algae and biofilm for them to munch on. Underfeeding is better than overfeeding and I only do monthly water changes.

Hello, I've been trying to keep my own colony of RCS for more than half a year, but no succes. I've had a couples of times now when i had alot of babies who grew to like 2/3 weeks old and then all suddenly died. Also when i buy a couple new from a shop like half of them die within 3 weeks, and the rest few weeks later(all different shops). Now some worker in the store said try adding minerals, hope it works (saltyshrimp kh/gh powder and dennerle mineral food flakes) Do you or somebody else have similar experiences or tips? Thanks in advance. PS. Very good channel and videos, I subscribed 😀

For me cherry shrimp are easy to keep. Just don't make a bigger change in the aquarium. But opposite for crystal shrimp. They are more fragile. But in my experienced. A certain breeder has a really hardy crystal shrimp. Some breeders has shrimp that are really fragile. A slightest change in parameters can lead into a dead. While some breeders have shrimp that more hardy. 🤭

Providing they are placed down in the substrate, not up in the water column, I believe they will be fine. What brand are they?

@@FishKeepingAnswers thanks for that, can't remember the brand just ordered them I think il move the shrimp to another tank for a week or two and let the plants absorb the nutrients and then add some shrimp from my cull tank and see what happens

Okay hope you see and can help I got some neocaridina shrimp they gonna be 1/4-1/2 big got 20 cause was able to make nice deal Will they be fine in 5 gallon till they get bigger to go into a 135 gallon It has lots of plants and structures and mollies, plates, guppies and cherry barbs Or do you think be just fine to toss in also the 135 gallon has a rock background glued to the back of the acrylic I sent a message on Instagram if you accept it I can send u a pic n maybe vid of my aquarium
