Wasn't Carr like 5th in completion pct and 10th in TD passes? If he can play closer to the level of the back half of last season as opposed to first half (mostly O line dependant) Saints will be right there.

I’ll be the first to ACTUALLY ADMIT… I wasn’t over the moon that we signed Carr. But as far as I’m concerned, he is OUR QB. I’m a DIE HARD Saints fan and you could have the worlds worst QB or Gods gift to the QB position, I’ll root for either of them equally as hard! All about the team in the end… #WhoDat #WD4L ⚜️⚜️

For real. I think many people haven't followed us thoroughly this off-season. We did so many things to make this team better. So I say we surprise people this year. It also helps that we're an underdog. I love being the underdog. WHO DAT⚜️⚜️⚜️

@@jcoolguy1548 Yep. Defensively they have added Gay and Young which will help track down them mobile QB’s, and they are stronger in the secondary with another year experience and added Kool Aid. On offense, getting rid of No Clue Carmichael and adding new OC, OL coach and receivers coach will do wonders. New drafted OL will play left tackle and OL coach says he is pleased so far with the OL talent. Carr and the offense will flourish in their second year together.

Carr is a pretty decent QB and at times he can be GREAT. One person doesn't make up a whole roster but he has been getting more of the blame than he deserves. It's too bad he got throwed to one of the worst fan bases in football 🏈😬⚜️.

I've never seen Carr get beat up like he did last season. He also had a remedial offense. Kubiak will add motion and different run schemes.

I don’t think I’ve ever seen a player as polarizing as Derek Carr Yeah either love him or you Hate him Seems to be no in between so crazy to me because Derek Carr is a good quarterback and more than that a great person and a great role model to the youth you’ll never see this guy on TMZ getting DUIs or Assaulting women or anyone the guy works his butt off and for all the haters that root Against him I would really love to know where that comes from because I truly don’t understand it I know when the NFL it’s about wins and losses but the way this guy gets treated and talked about is crazy it’s like you said they’re rooting against him on purpose but Derek Carr also I have his fans too And a lot of them I just wish there was more in between I thought these polar opposites because that divides fans and the team and if you’re a Saints fan you do not want that to happen But I’m rooting for Derek Carr and the Saints to have a big year this year hopefully But this whole thing with Derek Carr it’s not knew it was happening with the Raiders too and now it’s happening with the Saints like you were saying I don’t think there’s another player as polarizing as Derek Carr As far as the love and hate he gets

And Carr is not a "bridge" QB. I know it sounds cute to say that, but when the Saints were recruiting Carr, I guarantee you they were not thinking about him only playing for 3 years with the Saints until they draft the next QB bust. And when SF offered two #1's, a #2 and a #3 for Carr just two seasons ago, they were not thinking about him being a “bridge" QB either. QB's nowadays can play into their 40's if they want. This is the Carr era, the Bugatti Era. He will be here for the next 8 seasons at least. In fact, if Carr retires at 41, he would have played with the Saints for 10 years.

Why rank him 17 when he’s statistically right around 10-12 every year? What other position is a player top 10 or close to top 10 and they aren’t considered a good player? It’s bizarre.

@@LouisWinthorpe3 it's bc Carr hasn't won enough to earn top 10 status in their eyes.....which is kind of absurd, bc neither has Cousins or Stafford. Stafford wins a ring in a loaded team, leads the NFL in picks that season, but still earns permanent top 10 status. Until they see Carr win in the playoffs (as much as that relies on the team around him), they won't give him credit for being a good QB. They see guys like LM (top 5 OL and defense his entire career) and Burrow (arguably the best weapons in the NFL plus a very good defense his entire career) have immediate success and believe every QB should do that or they're trash. Carr and Stafford were twins on their 1st teams. Diff now is that Stafford went to a loaded Rams team, while Carr went to a heavily flawed Saints team. That said, I think Saints got it right, and this season starts a new era.

James, another great post. I - like probably a lot of other fans last year - drank the kool-aid. We believed the media stating how easy the schedule was and the team was finally getting a starting caliber QB in Carr to replace the Brees. Didn't pan out. However I can see how now they want change. It's pre-mature for sure but imagine an offense with rookie QB Rattler paired with the young gun wideouts Olave, Shaheed and Perry, and watching them guys all grow up together. Then add the RB trio of Kamara, Miller and Williams. Bro, that would be sweet...

You have great points - many! Most people don’t want to look at how the oline is progressing, they just want to see the team win or lose. And yes - Carr haters seem to want to see him lose. Yes - mid season he was not the same. How this guy has gotten so disliked and hated is bizarre. I guess it’s record, and fair enough. Carr is good - give him a decent o line and a full healthy season, it will be clear. He doesn’t care about his stats; he wants to win. So his fantasy and dollar status is not as high as some of those other individualists. He will have a solid season, but the Saints are hopefully going to fix the run game and that will get more yards and TDs. All that to say his stats may not be much better. 5000 yds? Probably not, if the offense is balanced. 35 or more TDs? Probably not; balance. So much hate and negativity. I hope Kamara has an awesome season; hope the D is top 5. Hope the line is MUCH more consistent. Hope Kubiak’s playbook is killer compared to Pete C. Hope the Saints are in playoffs - then we see what happens!

Ha. Yep. I remember watching the Bills Chiefs game and Mahomes had 14 straight completions to open the game. And the announcer was just saying that Mahomes has 14 straight completions but he hasn’t been pressured yet and with the very next breath said, “Mahomes under pressure…throws….incomplete.” It’s easier to be successful when you are playing for an offensive guru in the same system from the start of your career and always get the calls going your way - until they call your receiver offside and you cry like a baby and get fined by the league. If Mahomes lost it from one offsides call, I wonder if he could have made it in Carr’s shoes with all the adversity that he has faced in his career.

I do think Carr will land more often than not as above average, I really think we will keep him for at least 4 years. He could have the same season he just had but if its more consistent, the tape looks better and we win even a game or two more it'll be a huge difference. I do believe he will end up being the second best Qb the saints have ever had

James, I do think having a good personality is important, as far as the locker room goes. Having a good personality in the locker room is a good thing. I think it helps to build culture, and that it also has a hand in winning culture. Thats why so many of us loved Cam Jordan, Jameis Winston, Demario Davis, Drew Brees etc. These guys are great people. And some of the dudes I named are Saints legends (Though as much as i love Jameis, that doesnt include him). So yeah, I do think having good personalities are important for the success of a team.

If Carr had an offensive guru and 15 years in the same system like Brees had, he would have had comparable numbers. Carr has more arm talent, and quicker release and a stronger arm that Brees, so he may have been better. But I don’t think he would have thrown for as much yards but he may have had a better QBR.

The kid gloves are off. The offense isn't going to be average. They lost Jacobs and their best QB is bottom 8 at best. The offense will be well below average, probably even bad. The defense has a chance to show last season wasn't a fluke, but even then I think they have a top 10-ish ceiling. They won't be elite. They don't have the star power, esp in the secondary. I'm expecting a 6-11 season, as KC (Reid more specifically) isn't going to let themselves be embarrassed 2 seasons in a row. In fact I expect a very fired up KC team in both games next season. Jim Harbaugh is a beast. Chargers will be good. Unfortunately it's going to be Chargers and KC as the 2 good teams in the AFCW. The shame is that Raiders would be a SB contender right now had Gruden not been cancelled. I'm willing to bet that's part of the reason those emails were leaked.

Bottom line whether Derek Carr played hurt took time to connect with team. He lead to a 9-8 season and great defense and great QB couldn’t win a game without him leading 17-0 at half time. To finish 10-7 and playoff appearances. Question is will there still be this much hate.

Bottom line - Derek Carr is not "a dog". He does't have that type of mentality. Baker Mayfield knows how to go out and take over the game to win against the best competition. Baker has proven that. I don't see that from D. Carr yet. They ask D. Carr a hundred times about what happened when he was at the Raiders and how he's answering it personally how you feel. You don't do that. Don't share that with the media. Mostly it was about "his wife" was mad and I got to support her... blah blah blah blah. Did ya'll notice he said his wife doesn't have any friends as of yet to this day? How does that happen in Louisiana? What did Alvin Kamara say? We are inconsistently inconsistent. But that was all on Derek Carr. That hasn't gone away. I mean the word of the day was Jake Haener was the MVP for today? When are we going to hear that about Derek Carr? Kamara, the guy who helped give the Saints a bottom 3 run game last season? How is the offense being inconsistent all on Carr? He was expected to carry an offense that had no run game at all from his very 1st game on a new team. No QB can do that. None. It took Brady 11 games to start playing well with the Bucs his 1st year there. Stafford lead the NFL in picks his 1st year with the Rams. Didn't play well at all the 1st half of the season, and neither one of them were injured. QB's need time to adjust to new teams. This should be common knowledge by now.

From watching the raiders carr and baker both put it out there. I think just cause someone answer a question a certain way determines if there a “dog” or not. But Carr does put it all Out there even if he loses.( or randomly throw a Interception at the end of the game)

Ridiculous. D Carr's demeanor tipped off the play whether run or pass. He didn't throw to Kamara hardly at all. Do you not think as the QB (leader) of the team - you would say oh, we did this in training camp - why we not putting the ball in Kamara's hands? Is that going to be finally done this year? Is he saying that? Is he saying what he did wrong and what needs to work on? It was 85% his fault. Ya'll making excuses for this guy and yet by game 3-5 you will be begging to put S. Rattler in this year.

I don't get why Derek Carr's getting so much heat when there was five crucial passes in games within 7 points. Not to forget the 17-0 lead against the Packers that Wingstop blew 😂. Whole saints is ass lol. If you give him a good offensive line he'll take you to the playoffs. He took the 26th place defense Raiders to the playoffs. That's 6th worst defense in the entire league. Then he comes to this dumpster on fire that has a terrible offensive line and all rookie receivers. Where's the balance??? All super bowl teams have a top 10 offense and defense. Let that sink in. Saints only have a good defense. Kamara had 694 yards, Hill was always Randomly there one week the next week the OC wouldn't even play him, Carr has no tools to use, I use Carr in my fantasy, man can ball💀💀💀

So, the 3 years (not 9) he had a good offensive line, he was a pro bowler all 3 years, 3rd in MVP voting 1 year, and threw for 82 touchdowns despite breaking his leg in 2016. 2017 wasn't a great year coming off that injury, but he still made the pro bowl. Receivers? Cooper and Crabtree, who on separate occasions have literally led the league in dropped passes? Crabtree's career was extended thanks to Carr and the Raiders, and Cooper showed flashes of what he could do, but he would drop passes at the worst possible time. Nobody has ever had either in their top 10 receivers. Who else? Waller? Hasn't done anything without Carr. Renfrow? Same. Davante Adams? Yeah, he was legit. That's probably why Carr had him leading the league in touchdowns and within 119 yards of Tim Brown's single season record with 2 games left to play. Imagine if he actually had more than a year with him and a competent playcaller. Cried? Like Ray Lewis, Luke Kuechly, Knowshon Moreno, Aaron Donald, Russell Wilson, and countless others? Guy, Saints were in the hunt until 6 hours after they played their last game. That means they were in playoff contention the entire season, so those last 5 games absolutely did matter. In fact, Carr played his absolute best ball when Saints HAD to win. That's a fact. What you want to believe is having to win is irrelevant. Winston lost the game that kept them from winning the division. An easy W for any starting level QB. Don't fuq up a 17-0 lead in the 3rd quarter. Easy. Hell, when was the last time Saints were in playoff contention B4 Carr got there? Those "suicide" balls weren't that bad. No where near as bad as they were made out to be. Carr was still learning the system at that time, and like any QB to learn a new system, his passes weren't perfect over the 1st half of the season. That's part of learning a new system. Plus no QB is perfectly accurate all the time anyway. I've watched Mahomes set Hill up to get his clock cleaned on many occasions. Does that mean Mahomes sucks? No.

Bottom line is he needs to win now, time is running out. With the Raiders we have seen him play great, and also play terrible. Numbers aside, he is a QB that gives you a chance to win even when coming from behind and you can't say that for every QB in this league. I am rooting for him to get a super bowl for the Saints before its all said and done for him.

I think a lot of things went against him last year(except playing through injuries cause thats HIS decision). Baker only performed well behind a top 10 offensive line. When they played us the 2nd time and we put pressure on him, he suddenly looked like the guy that's on his 4th team in 4 years. Behind our line, he would have done horrific.

Carr was sold to the fanbase as the answer to poor QB play and the key to winning a weak division, and obviously none of that happened. Then you throw in Carr’s dislikable personality and his refusal to take accountability and throwing his teammates under the bus and such, and you have the perfect cocktail for a QB that’s highly disliked by a large portion of the fanbase. There’s only one way to fix this and that is to win. If Carr plays well and leads the team to some playoff success then the fanbase will embrace him just as strongly as they currently dislike him.

When did Carr refuse to take accountability? I keep seeing this repeated, but I've seen all the post game press conferences, and he always says put the blame on me, or I made some stupid throws or something similar. That's been his MO his entire career. Plus, are you calling his yelling at Olave throwing him under the bus? The only other time I can think of was when he mentioned several miscues that happened in a game, and one was Taysom's fumble. He didn't call him out by name, and he said it was just a series of unfortunate things that happened. If fans are that soft, maybe the problem isn't the qb. 🤷🏿‍♂️ A quarterback holding himself and his teammates to a certain standard isn't throwing them under the bus. The way he did it in the press conference was about as diplomatic as it gets. The way he did it on the field, he apologized for and Olave took ownership of his role in it. Past teammates have called him one of their favorite teammates ever.

Hey James and Saints fam : ) Personally, I think it's obvious that Carr and Allen are two talented individuals, but they are not the right fit for NOLA. It's polarizing because it seems to be something people either see clearly, or don't see at all. It's an exercise in accepting mediocrity in my opinion. Who cares if we have good stats? They don't have the sauce, the x factor, the spirit.
