I have always thought skiing and skating were very similar and go hand in hand for the off seasons. But are skiboards an even better option for inline skaters looking to ski? Find out in this episode of T+R.

Inline skating is dangerous. In some situations, I may choose to skate
without protective gear at my own risk. I highly encourage the use of protective gear.

i love skiboards and to all the middle aged dads out there who have never skied or haven’t in 10+ years if u want to get out there with ur kids and have a blast on the mountain with a very shallow learning curve look no further than ski boards

I absolutely love Skiboarding! I'll never go back to regular skis. They're so freeing and nimble. Some people say they aren't all mountain but I've done top to bottom at Breckenridge's 12k+ ft mtn. Great video, my friend! I'd love to see more Skiboard videos.

Great video! It's interesting to hear a talented inline skater's perspective. I've been skiboarding for 24 years. Started on skis, switch to skiboards, dabbled with skis again about four seasons back but didn't stick with them. Shorties are just more fun to me. There are skiboards out there for varying terrain and all conditions. There's even a RVL8 Skiboards pro team of riders who are awesome in the terrain park.

I remember these type of skis about 18 years ago. You would add S/Z brackets to the side enabling you to do soul type grinds as well.

Dude this is exactly what I needed to hear about skiboards - Winter is a total dead season for me. I've tried cross country skiing which feels super weird, never tried downhill, and ice skating is not quite my jam. I might start looking into a set of these after hearing one of the guys you were with was a skater but not a skier kinda like me.

My wife has been skiboarding since 2003 and she loves them. Don't have to put a seat down in the car or have a roof rack to transporting them. Have Fun.

Ski boards were a game changer for me. After many years of skiing on traditional size skis, I tried ski boards for the first time and it was like an epiphany. I could instantly ski any slope with no problem at all. So much fun and I never went back to regular skis after that.

My son is a good inline skater/hockey player. When he was 7, I took him skiing for the first time, and put him on skiblades. His first day we stuck to the greens, no problem. Second day we did blues, third day we did blacks. By the fourth day he was flying down moguls and I threw my back out just trying to keep up with him.

I finally bought the skiboards I’ve had my eye on for a while now, Summit 110 with release bindings. Not cheap but tons of fun. They’re awesome and because they have demo bindings anyone can use them. I don’t know why these aren’t used as rentals for beginners, so much easier than regular skis. I think these would allow people to have much more fun when first starting.

Skiboarding is very similar to inline. I actually was able to go from ski boarding to inline park riding very fast. For those that struggle, skimboards amplify all the things you do wrong on skis. You have to be better balanced on skiboards. Riding the edges is the best way to be successful. Having been through the shape ski introduction and ski board introduction while I was riding professionally allowed me to become better in all areas. Don't write them off because you cant do it. They are a great tool to improve areas of your skiing. We trained for PSIA with one ski and one skiboard. If you are truly a sound skier, you will not tell a difference no matter what you are strapped to.

Great video. I remember seeing skiboards when I was skating the 1st time around (late 90s, early 00s) & always thought it looked like fun. Hadn't heard about it in years so I figured it fizzled out. If you delve more into it, it'd be great to hear about what to look for in a pair for novices (releasable/non, styles, etc).
@ThirtyandRollin

You an me both! As a skier/skater I always wanted to try it back in the day but never found the time or pair to do so. I will continue to ski board and will drop a few videos on basic knowledge as I learn more in the future. I really think its a great option for skaters in the off season that don't already ski.

Have you heard of snow feet? They might resemble rollerblades even more than these. Just got a pair and they are so much fun!
@ThirtyandRollin
@ThirtyandRollin Год назад
Yes I have. They would be a shorter ski base like a skate wheel base but I wouldn't want anything much shorter than these. I think the super short snowfeet would be too limiting and squirrely. I think this is the sweet spot.
@mattgutzke777
@mattgutzke777 Год назад
@@ThirtyandRollin You are right with them being limited. They don't work well in deep snow. However if the snow is more hard pack, they are amazing. Feels exactly like the blades. Can even skate around on flat ground. I might invest in the skiboards next and take them out in deeper snow. Looks like lots of fun!

@shredfreak83

closest thing to inline on snow would be bigfoots. The bindings were a total shitshow on those & got discontinued due to safety reasons in 2007. The non release binding kinda released when you were going fast, was pretty banging in snowboard parks though. The problem with snowblades (or skiboards as they call em these days) is that your choice is garbage, or slightly less garbage. nobody seems to invest in it & all the big players dropped out due to no profit or simply went bankrupt. the ones line made back in the day still makes all the current ones look like garbage. Would be cool to see a bigfoot revival based around snowboard bindings & boots. wich would make a lot more sense then ski boots as a platform. They're cool until you discover snowboarding, and then you completely forget about them imo. We usually did a day on something like this near the end of a ski trip, and sometimes only one bigfoot made it back hahah.
@ThirtyandRollin
@ThirtyandRollin Год назад
I'd have to disagree. I would never want to skiboard in snowboard boots or bindings, too much slop. I have skied/skated for 20+ years and snowboarded for 14. Love them all but in terms of relating to inline skating nothing takes the cake like skiing or skiboarding. Snowboarding is great don't get me wrong but it's kinda like saying skateboarding is more fun than inline skating. And I don't think that argument can be settled. It's a matter of taste.
