I have a new batch of snails in my shrimp tank every once in a while and every month or so I set a trap with cucumber and then transfer whatever snails stuck to the cucumber to my pea puffer/shrimp tank and boy does he love when that time of the month comes!
I do love them but in moderation. Except in the case of malasian trumpets, of course. bury themselves in substrate and huge help in carrying nutrients to plants as well as oxygen. I also like nerites to keep algae under control. As far as ramshorn are concerned, i feed the poor little guys to my puffers. They love them!
I can’t crush the pest snails lol I’m too much of a softy. I sort bladder snails into my jar terrariums, ramshorns and baby rabbit snails into my grow-out tank, and adult rabbit snails into my display tank. A few ramshorns ended up in my display tank but someone has been eating them 😬 I don’t have any puffers or loaches.... the kribs maybe??
If you're looking to add fish to that particular tank, obviously don't add them to just do the one job 😅 but I have a couple of Yo-yo botias, feed them snails as a treat
Can I ask your take on mystery/apple snails? I'm setting up a new tank (it's cycling right now), and I'd like to eventually add in our pleco and some mystery snails, trying to research some tank mates besides just them though. Would a Malaysian snail be okay with a pleco and a few mystery snails? I thought about maybe a couple male guppies(BIG thank you for the video letting us know they're really fast breeders!) and neon tetra.
I know this is an old comment but for anyone with the same question…malaysian trumpet snails are fine with everything you mentioned. They mostly stay out of sight until the lights go out. They help keep your substrate aerated. They help clean algae and leftover food or dead plant leaves you may have missed. I know some don’t care for them but I see them as a must in my planted tanks.
I enjoy watching your videos ...I learn alot (love seeing your handsome self too🤫🤫🤫😁😁) anyway keep posting the videos it helps me lot with my fishes thank u
Small snails a quarter of my finger nail size have appeared in my tropical freshwater tank...where did they come from and how do i get rid of them. They have flat shells
Great idea, I have a new tank and bought snails of different species to make sure they don’t breed out of control. Unfortunately I have recently found that plenty of baby snails are living in my tank probably from the live plants I have bought. I will consider this!
@@reecebhackett It's the clown and yo-yo loaches that hunts them most, I think. It's like a treasure quest for them digging under the substrate. Although, I'm not sure, I also found eggs in mine recently. But they were sticking upside down on my rock when I cleaned it.
What about Nerite snails? They are beautiful and need brackish water to reproduce, so no overpopulation problem. And you can lessen the hitchhiking snail and egg problem by buying tissue culture plants.
First, you cute, second, idk how but snails got to my turtle tank ???? I didn’t put them in there I think maybe one stuck to my turtle when she was sunbathing outside and came back in. Now there are so many eggs and snails all over my filter!! Should I keep them? Or make a trap and put them back outside maybe in a river idk help please 😂 ty
I have a ton of “bladder snails” in my aquariums, and I know they do good things for the cycle and stuff, but I like the look of rams horns much better. Do you think if I drop some rams horn snails in there they will outcompete the others? I hope so. Sorry this might be a stupid question and it is very long
They will not out cpete with the bladder snails. Bladder snails breed faster than ramshorn's so there will always be more of the bladders. To get rid of the snails, or most of them, don't over feed or feed every other day and they will die off. They only breed when there is enough food to go around.
Like two days ago my albino corys layed eggs and the bladder snails ate them 😢 There were a lot too, all stuck to the glass. I was so happy, and then... snails brought death
