Are Solder Free Motors Worth It?? 

It's very practical in most cases, but prone to break over prop strikes, I prefer to have race wires 👍

Completely agree, I love MR30 connectors. I'm a hobby racer and the MR30 have save my day multiple times by swamping a motor between hits.

I run MR30 on ALL of my quads from 3" to 8". I fly full throttle pretty much every pack. I have not felt them getting warm yet. No worries!

I think that if the connector was half the size it currently is, everyone would want them. Hell, add an LED and its GOLDEN

Great for setup testing. People change props for different feel, why not motors too. 7” frame would have many prop and motor combinations for different use cases.

I run them for sure and if you do reviews and like to try out different motors they are very handy

I keep one motor with mr30 already mounted on an extra arm as well, for quicker swap outs if an arm breaks. The only down side is that the gray covers on the back of the connector get broken over time with prop strikes.

I use em on all my quads. love em. I do remove the grey covers and shrink tube the connections though.

Back in the day all motors came with pretensioned barrel connectors. Then we transitioned away to straight solder and now back again.

I think it's a great idea! Who the hell wants to solder if they don't have to? 7-8 grams of weight isn't much. My mount for my go-pro weights more...

I haven’t tried them out yet but purchased some mr30 connectors and never got around to installing them yet. 🤦‍♂️ when I finally build a race frame this year I will most likely go this route to make fleet management easier for an event and maybe even some bando bashing 💥

I wonder how often or if there will be say a standard for + and - so no beta flight. You say plug and play but I wonder as it is still early...

I use mr30 on most race builds. I take the gray plastic covers off becsuse they breaky anyway. With mr30, ive never cut a motor wire with a prop strike. Without mr30, it is a certainty that a wire gets cut

would love it if all motor manufacturers did mr30s. completely agree that for folks that fly like me, ie recreationally, this is the way to go

I have had these keep me flying after driving all the way to the field only to blow a motor on my first pack, lol. grumble while taking a few minutes to swap and back up in the air

make chris rosser test the connector on his motor test stand it would be very interesting how much the plug impacts the performance

I use MR30s on all of my racers. Just doesn't make sense for me not to. One thing you keep forgetting to mention is how MR30s can SAVE YOUR MOTOR! I can't tell you how many times I''ve broken an arm and found the arm on the ground with the perfectly working motor still attached! Direct soldering your motors you run the risk of ripping pads off of your ESC or the wires out of your stator, not to mention a full powered spinning motor still attached to your drone with only the motor wires is a recipe for LOTS of damage.

Why not just bring a battery powered soldering iron? Plenty of clones out there

Those connectors are heavier than the connectors I was thinking. More Luke how betafpv does their whoops.

But, I am very good at soldering in the field! 😆

Connectors don't add enough weight to matter on 99.9999999% of drones. Even my 65mm whoop. If I removed the motor connectors it wouldn't make a measurable difference

solder everythang!! regardless if it takes a few seconds more. soldering when proficient can take seconds

Nice video with good information but bro, please get a gimbal setup or use a tripod on your camera when you are doing "talking head" stuff. I really dont understand why people wiggle around and spin around while doing talking head stuff as if they are engaged in an anxious phone call with their ex girlfriend. lol Getting super dizzy over here.

You should check out mt30 and mt60 they are not as wide
