He finished Winds back in 2015, but he encountered writers block whilst drafting the announcement post and just can't figure out a way to announce it. Apparently there's like 20 million copies of the book sitting in warehouses just waiting for him to post the announcement, some of them are starting to decay.
I promise to send you some of the really good hot sauce that my sister sends me from Mexico to make all those words a little bit tastier to eat. Do you prefer roja or verde?
Before I clicked the video I LITERALLY thought to myself, “great more fuel for my delusions” and then Quinn starts the video by saying “I wanna preface this by saying I’m delusional” 😭
When the sun rises in the west and sets in the east, when the seas go dry and mountains blow in the wind like leaves. When your womb quickens again, and you bear a living child. Then he will publish, and not before.
I don't think it's delusional. I think we've all gotten so pained and bitter with the wait, that we're inclined to tear chunks out of anyone who still musters up hope. I also had a dream about reading it. I'm not delusional, I'm a 100% certified fortune teller
Luckily we have ppl like you @mylittlethoughttree, quinn, and fantasy haven that render the wait bearable. Thanks! Your service to the community is priceless.
Wow the fans of this series are wild. Talking about it like these people were family waiting for young men to return from war but dying before they did. The book doesn't exist yet. Just think of it that way. Sadly there are many stories in books and other media that the creator never made an ending to for whatever reason. That doesn't mean you "died waiting" for the ending.
@Zwijger guess these same people died waiting for other stuff that doesn't exist... like star wars episode 10, the Lord of the Rings sequel book, The Canterbury Tales, Half-Life 3, My name is earl season 5(?). And thousands of other properties that were never finished.
“There is a theory which states that if _The Winds of Winter_ is ever released in this Universe, it will instantly disappear and be replaced by a Universe in which it takes longer to be released. There is another theory which states that this has already happened.”
@@danielwillumsen2934 Literally every year since however long it's been after the last book ASOIAF came out fan channels are like "Here it is, WOW is finally coming!!" Meanwhile GRRM has found time to do anything else but finish his main series... Fire & Blood, working on HOTD and a bunch of spinoffs, God knows what else. I would have taken ONE REALLY GOOD GAME OF THRONES SERIES from start to finish, based on actual finished book material, over every consolation spinoff show and consolation book combined. TBH I wish he had just finished Winds and Dream instead of writing Fire & Blood. He's never gonna finish this series, people. Look at the mans' physical condition-- does that look like a healthy man to you, one that's gonna live that much longer? Listen to all the vague excuse-making in his interviews-- does that sound like a guy that has any intention at all of finishing ASOIAF to you? NO. Neither thing. So we can enjoy our fan theories all we want, but we're never getting the books. At least I held off on investing all the time in reading the series to date. I saved myself the aggravation of not getting a proper ending twice instead of just suffering the destruction of the show.
Here you have another reason: The rights for the Spanish publication expire and the publisher didn’t renew them (money issues). Penguin said they will not buy the rights until WOW is finish because, at the moment, it appears the rights are too expensive to be profitable. Well… guess what? Penguin published new editions of all 5 books a couple of months ago!!!! Winter is coming my friends.
Under the sea, the mermaids read winds of Winter, with broken bottle spectacles. I know I know oh oh oh. Edit 24 hours later: woke up to my RU-vid notification working over time because 1.2k liked my terrible joke. You all are way too kind, and have terrible taste 😜. When we live in a mad Max style post-apocalypse, we can all get together and call our faction, The Winter Dreamers.... I just hope the last book: "Delusions of Spring", doesn't take GRRM another couple decades to finish. He has said for years, that he knows how he wants his story to end. So in theory it's just a matter of getting all the pieces into place and maybe, MAYBE, it'll all fall together... I want the story done, but I do want it done right.
Quinn reads the book and finds "The Titan's Brother" written on the next page. At this point he discovered he warged into GRRM and had become a greenseer
"I remembered that, so I allowed myself to hope... perhaps I wanted to... we all deceive ourselves, when we want to believe." - George R.R. Martin, A Feast for Crows
the biggest piece of evidence for me was the Duexmoi post. Duexmoi is a pop culture gossip site that mostly focuses on celebrities like singers, influencers, or actors. Basically for people like Tom Cruise or Taylor Swift. So for someone to get on there and post about Uncle George and his silly book is out of left field. People who read ASOIaF isn’t the demographic for duexmoi AT ALL. It’d be like if ESPN got news on what Scorsese’s next movie would be about.
@@FictionRaider007 As far as I know, most Deuxmoi posts are to be taken with a moderate grain of salt. So, the posts they show are all anonymous submissions that they can’t verify. So it’s definitely about George, but the source of the post could just be someone who wants to throw the fandom into defcon 2.
You forgot to mention the meeting he had with his british publisher around 5 months ago, and he said it was about Winds, among other things. Which is a pretty big sign, maybe the biggest one yet
In the official online promotion for season 1 of HotD, GRRM mentioned that he had written a couple of good chapters recently and was anxious to get home so he could carry on writing before he lost his good ideas. I got the impression that the positive experience of being involved with HotD inspired him. Since then I have felt positive that WoW would be soon.
I hypothesize that George is hybridizing his writing style, an architect-gardener building the hanging gardens of Babylon. I firmly believe that he has been working on the framework for dream of spring for some time. Concurrently with work on winds of winter. It is the only way he could make all the disparate plotlines come together just right.
I've had the same feeling. It would be impossible to set up the conclusion w/o having final plot lines and character arcs pretty firmly figured out. I'm thinking there will be a lot of pruning in George's Winter garden before Spring, so with luck the last book should go more quickly (and probably be more fun to write?). Or I'm delusional too.
I remember deciding to re-read the series because I thought Winds was likely to come out soon. Since then I graduated left school, graduated university and have been in work for two years. Basically, I'll believe it when i see it
I'm literally 1 minute in, and I paused the video to say this. Never let us doubters who have given up all hope steal your joy of hoping and believing! If it doesn't case you harm to believe, be a believer. If you don't end up feeling let down, keep hoping. I don't want anyone else to turn bitter about something they loved just because I have. Keep believing. Maybe even believe a little for me too! ❤
I've finished the video and honestly I hope you're right, for you and all the folks like you who still believe the last 2 books will be published. For me personally, I doubt I'll buy it even if you're right. I don't want to get invested again just to wait for the last book. Maybe if they're both finished I'll consider buying them someday.
It is true that his blogposts have had a more positive vibe recently. I think that he's at least at the point were he's resolved all difficulties and only has to fill up the remaining gaps in the manuscript. That doesn't mean we're necessarily looking at a 2024 release
Honestly, I think you are 100% correct on this. As soon as I heard GRRM was going to WorldCon, this all fell into place in my head as well. It makes tremendous sense to announce the book at WorldCon (the place he originally sad he would have) and avoid interrupting any hype for House of the Dragon. He has also already had an essentially completed book (1200+ pages) for years so the timing fits in many ways. It is finally happening.
Even if he hasn't finished I hope to god that he has at least decided to release the first half (or the first 1000 - 1200 pages) of it already since the wait has been so long. It's written, just give it to us!
Man, just two days ago, on June 19, George posted a new "Words of Wisdom" entry. This time is a Roosevelt's Quote: "Far and away the best prize that life has to Offer is the chance to work hard at work worth doing." . So, I think you should increase the chances from 40% to 41%. It's closer!
I had a dream about a month ago I was at a party, walked into a back room, and George was chilling reading something. I asked him what he was reading and he said it was winds and I could read it if I didn’t tell anyone about it. Then I woke up and haven’t been okay since
Ah yes, this delay is a deliverate action to spite specifically _you._ Its not like he actually wants to publish the damn book and be done with the harassment. Spiting you is more important.
@@leandrocastello309 Personally, that's how I would be. Why should I make the people harassing me happy? Making the harassment stop is _way_ less important and gets less and less important as time passes. Why reward bad behavior? No one likes a nag.
You guys have a point. Barely remember the story, but there was a video game developer who made two really awesome games. People made petitions, and letters, but eventually it went to death threats. The creator of the games relented and made game number 3. The only thing that got him, was more of the same treatment until game 4 was out. Martin probably doesn't want to be in a situation, like you guys pointed out, with their behavior is rewarded, and he just gets constant threats until we get book 19 and 20 till infinity LOL
guys i had a bonfire the other day and r'hllor talked to me and said winds of winter soon i swear we had a convo hes a chiller he let me hit his bong i promise guys
I just bought the whole collection of a song of ice and fire. I’m on the first book and honestly fell in love with it. My gamble was that by the time I get done with a dance of dragons winds of winter will come out. Also when you start reading the books and enter the fandom the delusion of when the next book comes out immediately takes hold. My delusion is that he’s been done writing winds of winter and he’s secretly writing a dream of spring and release then together.
Same haha and I’ve been putting it off for years for this very reason lol. I started with fire and blood this year, finished that and Knight of Seven Kingdoms and Game of Thrones before the end of Jan but then slowed down because I realised I’d finish way before Winds came out. 3/4 of the way through Kings rn so hopefully I can somehow pace it just right for the series to carry me through until Winds is released somehow
Was listening to this doing dishes and an ad with heavy breathing popped up and I was like omg is Quinn GM going to hyperventilate but nope just some horror movie trailer.
The long awaited epic fantasy sequel by a legendary fantasy author whose title starts with Wind did in fact get finished today: Brandon Sanderson announced that stormlight 5 "Wind and Truth" is finished.
It'd be honestly hilarious if BrandoSando drove down to New Mexico from Utah and ordered a dragon cake to celebrate his book without dragons in it just to mess with people.
I was really not convinced by the "Words of Wisdom" translating to "Winds of Winter" UNTIL I went to his not a blog and saw there have been TWO MORE recent blogs with similar titles. Another "Words of Wisdom" with a cryptic Teddy Roosevelt quote, and "Waldrop Wins One" which is also a stretch but is so weird that it would be weirder to title it that if it wasn't a coded message to me the government is sending me coded messages I'm being gang stalked by men in black suits someone is in my bushes with a telephoto lensohnoohnothecloudsareawatchingmeeeee
IG post explicitly says "release of his long-awaited book". So, if we believe it, then: • The author is male. • It is a book release, not a television show. • The book has been long-awaited. So, it is not for 𝘏𝘰𝘵𝘋. Given that the author is prominent and from New Mexico (and that GRRM is the only author who is widely associated with the state, I think), it seems like he is at least in good contention. The cake is dragon-shaped. So, the book is probably a fantasy novel and involves dragons. Moreover, cutting into the cake could be symbolic of slaying the dragon - which would be a fitting metaphor for this book. I cannot think of anyone else who matches the description, nor any other book(!) which would. I may just be uncultured, but from my data-set, there is exactly one way to interpret that post if it is true.
@@orcocan: We do not. One might be able to figure out whether they are a caterer, where they are based and which region they service, whether they have actually made the cake, etc. - based on their posts to date - but that validates the background facts and does not prove that their claim is fundamentally correct.
Has anyone heard of any GRRM party for 𝘏𝘰𝘵𝘋 premiere? I have not. But I 𝘩𝘢𝘷𝘦 seen him post the Words of Wisdom thing on Facebook - separately from Not A Blog, meaning that he wants to emphasize it. So, assuming that the original post is correct about there being any party planned at all, and that there was not one already, then it seems even more likely that it would be for a book. GRRM's birthday is not until 20 Sep. (which is my sisters birthday too), which may or may not be too distant from now to be planned in this way.
I've been feeling this too! I'm glad to see that other people are feeling the same way outside of the depressing cesspool that is reddit. Great video Quinn, hopefully Winds is coming soon.
3:06 It'd actually be hilarious if he released them both at the same time like "here you go, you little shits. It's all here. Enjoy, and leave me alone." Lol
Imagine doing that in secret for 13 years just to fuck with everyone. Dude would deserve a statue after that. "Ah and here are all of the Dunk and Egg stories. I got bored."
Wish he’d drop the 2 books for the main series, Blood and Fire, and the Dunk & Egg novellas all at the same time 😭 but he’s a lazy idiot so I do not think he’s been writing either of those books, like at all
I'd like to add that the company that sells the German translation released a new cover design for the older books - maybe Winds will be made in that design.
My personal pet theory (or is it wishful thinking?!) of the last few months is that GRRM will announce TWOW right after the end of season 2 of HOTD, so that they can release it this year right in time for christmas shopping. 🙂 Yes! I'm a foolish optimist!😁😁🤣🤣
i bet you the end of season 2 will have a cryptic announcement of an announcement happening at world con. Trust me i saw a fat man standing on the world slaying doubters with a black book in the flames.
It would be awesome if at the end of HOTD season 2 finale, after the credits finish, GRRM pops up and gives the announcement. That would be cool. I’m delusional too 😂
I have an even more conspiracy-brain theory: So, the man has said before that he hates the whole process of people waiting on his books. He's a slow writer but he was never this slow until this book. I think in GRRM's perfect world he finishes the series as soon as possible so that he has time to just enjoy the celebrity his creation has brought while one of the shows is still in the public eye. Now, think about what would happen if he published Winds of Winter. People would be overjoyed, it would be huge news and fans would spend a short while reading it and a little while longer talking about it...and then in a couple months we'd be back to waiting for the next book and he'd start getting questions about it again. Only, it would be much worse than it is right now because right now he's faded into the background somewhat as so many have basically given up on the series ever being completed. In short, if he released the next book, the scrutiny he'd be under would intensify and we know he hates that. Let's look at some time gaps now. AGoT: 8/1/96. ACoK: 11/16/98. ASoS: 8/8/00. AFfC: 10/17/05. ADwD: 7/12/11. That's roughly 2 years each for the first 3 books, just over 5 for the fourth, just under 6 for the fifth. We're at nearly 13 years right now since the last book was published. Yes, he's a slow writer, but this is an unprecedented gap even for him. Game of Thrones passed the books in season 5 or season 6, depending on how you figure it. At that point he'd already failed in his attempt to keep ahead of the show - about 4-5 years after the release of the previous book. What if, once he missed out on the opportunity to write the ending before the show, he took a look around and realized that WoW was no longer the goal? After all, WoW only kept him slightly ahead of the show for a little longer, but definitely wouldn't have stopped the questions and scrutiny. What if, at that point he decided that the best way to write the books in peace was to not say a word till he was done. Not with the next book, but with the whole series. It would explain the truly excessive wait time, it would explain why he's gone so quiet over the last few years and it would be the only way to truly get everyone off his backs. So that's my crazy theory: he's secretly done with the next book and he's holding it until he's done with the whole series so people will stop bitching about him and he can go out in public again.
Unfortunately the explanation for the exorbitant delay is that he tried to do too many things, backed himself into a corner with his plotlines and insane worldbuilding (because I’m sorry but who the fuck cares about political struggles between people who want to play king when his worldbuilding confirms Lovecraftian gods exist in that universe?!) and he’s just too fucking lazy to figure it out, and too fucking egotistical to ask some other writers for help. He in fact has not been writing the series, at all.
So when this was recommended to me, the video was posted 11 days ago, currently has 111k views and 1,1k comments. I'm taking this as a sign. This video must be correct. The Winds of Winter are blowing.
When it's officially done. George will probably have every outlet be on full standby and we'd hear about it from the publishers. Someone would spoil it.
I think Winter solstice (Dec 21 this year) is a more likely release date than Dec 17, its the darkest and shortest day of the year and ties in thematically with Winds. And its also at the peak of the holiday shopping season.
Im also delusional to the point that when the finale for season 2 airs, at the end, George will speak to the audience and announce the winds of winter release date
My thought process clicking on this video: "I am clicking on this video because I am delusional." Opening of this video: "I am delusional." My brain: "Ah, I'm in the right place."
Optimistic videos are a breath of fresh air. I stopped watching Preston Jacobs altogether because of how negative he is. Thank you for the optimism. More would be appreciated. Too many people just think it's never coming
@@alantyndall85 I remember Schwift's pictionary with Glidus, and rolling with laughter. It was like two lines and a gess, that's how delusional we all got from waiting. We've been waiting 15 years, and I think the stars have finally aligned.
I hope about whay you are saying, but I still can see Martin doing a joke at WorldCon saying something like "now put me in the acid, I'm sorry" or something like that, joking a little bit and saying "I'm 3/4 with the book, it's gonna be the longest book in the series..." and all the things he says every year
Honestly I would have thrown out most of what you said (I too am a delusional winds coper too) but the Worldcon stuff is very interesting. I can almost imagine GRRM thinking about how spectacular of an announcement that would make, given his famous/infamous internment comment and it being right after the end of hotd season 2, it would create unparalleled hype (which is already unparalleled). It reads to me very throneslike. I have a feeling!
Y’know, the best thing about all this is that he seems to still think he’s going to finish this series. Like he’s planning on it. And that’s good. I think he really super gardened himself into a corner in Mereen, and it took him a long time to fight his way out of that thicket, considering how dense the lore of his garden is, how much things intertwine. I think this next book might be really big and then the final one will be only about half or 2/3 as long, and he seems to plan on them being finished. He says he also wants to be involved in the other new shows too, though, which might not both be possible. I know he really likes being involved as much as possible with all extensions of the representation and handling of lore that is his LIFE’S WORK and one of the biggest high fantasy franchises of all time, but like there are realities like there only being 24 hours in a day and 365 days in a year. Y’know what I mean?
I started reading A Game of Thrones in '96 or '97, shortly before Clash came out. I think I'm becoming more and more delusional. I will say that I liked it better when no one had ever heard of A Song of Ice and Fire. He was putting the books out somewhat regularly. But, had the show not come out and the responses to its ending not occurred, he wouldn't be pushed to make this the absolute best that he could. I was 18, sitting on the floor in a Barnes & Nobles when I first opened A Game of Thrones and had been seeing it on the bookshelf for months and had immediately gotten pulled in. When Bran got pushed, I shut the book, got up, went straight to the cashier, bought the book, and was then up all night reading it. The WoW post, and it's talk of dreaming seems to point to working on Dream. He had pointed out earlier that he might write book 2 of Fire & Blood before going to Dream. I usually don't watch these. The Fandom changed with the show, largely because of the show, and it has been largely negative. I don't think that people realize how difficult it gets to be for the artist trying to produce a product that will be enjoyed. He wants to make sure that you get your money's worth when you buy his product, and the shows ending didn't help because it does reflect on him, and stress hits the individual psychologically, and for the writer, it can cause writers block as a consequence. But, you are being light-hearted about it, and I like that. I hear people complain about Winds taking so long, and then I find out that they started reading the books in 2016, and I can't take them seriously any more. The only book that I didn't wait for was Clash. Look at all the releases. Each book has been at least a few years after the one prior. I've been waiting from book to book since 1997 or so. There are a few of you though that have been very respectful, like you are in this video, and as a reader, and a fan, I do appreciate. I personally hope that we are not delusional. I remember when the anthology book came out that featured the Hedge Knight came out and if Stephan King hadn't written a prequel for the Dark Tower, I wouldn't have gotten it. I would love to finally see how this story ends. I like everything that he has put out, but I started this with the Starks, and I would love to see this finished before he moves on. No one ever believed that there would be shows. When I bought Dance in 2011, I had no idea that there was a show. It wasn't until season 2 came out that I heard about it, and I refused to watch until after season 7 wrapped up.
I'm very happy to open a video in which the first screenshot reads 'I have gone insane from waiting for The Winds of Winter'. Edit: On a more serious note, I believe this truly is it. That blogpost + him attending the WorldCon all seem to point to a very big announcement. I believe he might announce it himself during a panel or something, and everybody will go crazy and someone will post a video of that and then the internet will explode. Either way, GRRM wouldn't have posted that post randomly, he knows that we know. So overall I believe you're right in everything.
I'm still a doomer, but I did see two shooting stars in one night and wished for George to get inspired to finish Winds on both of them. If that doesn't work, nothing will.
Just saying, he's doing a fantasy QnA with Philip Pullman (who is also nearing completion on the next book in his series) in the beginning of August. I could fully see a double-release date drop for the next book of dust and ice and fire together... that would be a week before worldcon where he could potentially have a finished manuscript in hand
Im with you man, SInce I read that post on his Not a Blog I just knew he was talking about Winds of Winter.. It makes ABSOLUTE SENSE to announce the completion of his book without really announcing it. And if you come to think about it s just such a clever way to do it.. But the blue rose...cmon man, its just too much. But I get you dont want to get your hopes just too high, you dont want to feel dissapointed for yet another year...and yet...and yet, the timing, for the House of Dragon season, the World Con and the potential realeasing of the book in Christmas season...man, its just too much. Too many coincidences....but we ll see. Lets have some Faith.
I’m hoping right along with you my man! Hope and despair are two sides of the same circle and I’ve been on the despair side long enough that im coming back around to hope.
