I'm a trans guy who had to deal with the US education system, and while the video was amusing to watch, after it was finished I realized that this all seems ridiculous since I've had years now to fill in the gaps that my education left, but if you'd asked me these same questions when I was in my last year of high school or the first year out, I wouldn't have known a lot of the answers. The sense of anxiety left from having no idea what's going on with your own body is unreal. Like, I know dysphoria was part of my discomfort, but it sure as hell wasn't the only factor in why I was so uncomfortable in my own body for years.

In our sex Ed we weren’t separated! We got one in primary school where two people came in and told us about like love and romantic feelings and stuff (I’m pretty sure at least one of them was bi) and they also talked a bit about queerness and that it’s normal and okay to be queer and then we got one in secondary school where we talked about the biological side of things and stds and how the reproductive system works and that’s what we got 👍

We had sex ed in gender separate classes. We only learned the bare basics of the male anatomy. Unfortunately my sex ed class was in the late 80s, so by the time i got my first period everything was out of date. They gave every girl a kit to stash away so they had what they needed for their first period. Mine included a large pad and a BELT to wear and attach the pad to. Needless to say, by the time I started in the early 90s, belts were completely out of use, adhesive pads and tampons were mainstream and i was completely lost.

We had sex ed in school, and the teacher actually taught everyone what a period is, and we WEREN'T seperated by gender, my school is goated

My sex ed class was not separated, so we had to sit uncomfortably through an entire week of male reproductive system and female reproductive system study. We talked about hormones and periods, and it was really uncomfortable for everyone involved.

in utah they are legally not allowed to talk about it without a signature from the parents and then in like 8th grade they did a very basic thing for like an hour one day and lots of kids opted out cause their parents didn’t want them to :|

When we had the puberty talk in 5th grade the split up the boys and girls ( I was a weee little trans guy so it was horrible) and after they went over periods & shit they went over the males anatomy and instead of being like here are the testicle, etc they said BALLS😭😭😭

We were separated for “maturation class” where they teach the 5th grade (10-11 yr old) kids about puberty related stuff. “Sex education” was not separated by gender and all 10th graders were taught about sti’s, and how to use condoms and birth control.

My school didn’t do sex ed. all we had was a 3 page chapter in health class in 6th grade and were told to read it to ourselves and answer the 5 questions at the end of the chapter. The chapter was strictly about the sperm and the egg and how it attaches to the uterus. It was the most basic biology that you could have told a literal child.

As someone who is currently on their period, ovulating during my period would be terror for me tbh 😭. We can pee with tampons in, pee and period blood come out of different holes. We seriously need to tech sex ed better.

we were always separate for sex ed yr5-yr13 but in yr 5 we had one lesson when the girls watched one of the boys videos and the boys watch one of the girls videos. It was just so confusing because the videos were very random and didn't make sense having not seen the rest in the course and definitely confused us more about anatomy. But the girls were always taught like "how to protect yourself from r*pe by wearing certain clothes", "female contraceptive is painful and sometimes dangerous but you don't want an unwanted pregnancy", and every single time the boys came out saying they had the same demonstration of how to put on a condom for the 15th time.

Im so glad that my primary school taught us all together and that in secondary school the women's reproductive system is part of the ciriculum for biology

PSA: regarding pregnancy, the answer is basically ALWAYS. you CAN get pregnant, even while on your period. (it's rare, but it CAN happen) you CAN get pregnant from pre-cum (which means that even if a guy pulls out, there's still a chance of pregnancy). the 5-7 days thing is when you're OVULATING and the chance of pregnancy is the greatest. but it can happen at any time, during any point in your cycle. it's more rare for it to happen outside of ovulation, but it CAN still happen basically, a good rule of thumb is to just assume that you can get pregnant ALL THE TIME. also, some medications may affect how effective birth control pills are. Certain antibiotics or even herbal supplements. so ALWAYS make sure to ask if there are any potential interactions if you're relying on birth control pills to prevent pregnancy and you're prescribed other meds.

We never got sex ed at my Catholic private school one time one of our teachers was going to separate boys and girls and tell us about it but the principal found out and stopped it from happening because apparently it would have been too inappropriate and parents would probably freak out

My sex ed consisted of us being told about consent and the legendary tea (british school btw) and like we did a task where we matched the pictures of contraception and the names. We were a Catholic school so it wasn’t a lesson on how to use tampons and pads it was more dont have sex till marriage but if you do *USE CONTRACEPTION* It was also just all the students in that year together in different classrooms

1:35 Being from the Netherlands, I think it's a really strange idea to seperate boys and girls with sex education. It seems to me that it's important to know what's going on in the body of the sex? In secondary school, it was just taught in the regular biology class. (Also, as my primary school was a catholic school, we didn't really get sex education there, even when it was on SchoolTV, as the teacher skipped that part of the programme, which also doesn't seem like the way to go)

I guess I got REALLY lucky with my sex ed even r I was in Catholic school for 1-8 grades. 3rd grade was basic "how babies are made" mixed class. 4th grade boys and girls were separated while the girls watched the movie about periods. 5th grade was mixed and a bit more in depth about anatomy of both sexes, how babies are made, and how periods work. 6th grade a counselor came in and we all were to write down any questions we had because apparently, our class had a reputation for "dirty mouths". 8th grade was all about sin and how kisses lasting more than 3 seconds was a sin, being gay was NOT a sin, but gay sex was, and any kind of premarital sex was a sin, and abortion was a most terrible sin. I went to public high school and had one semester of health class where we recapped on anatomy of both sexes and that in rare cases intersex people existed. Major emphasis on STDs, how to prevent, failure rates of different types of birth control, and demonstrations on proper placement of dams, diaphrams, condoms, and foams on transparent anatomy models. Never learned about tampons in school. This was in the late 80s and early 90s in the Midwest of the US. This information is no longer given anymore.

I don't remember there really being sex education in school. I was raised in a really religious family, so basically I had no guidance growing up about how to be a human at all, so I had to figure out a lot of stuff for myself later in life.
