Just to be safe, i want to reiterate that this isn't a scientifically accurate test. I replayed each form numerous times until i got similar runs. The player's input and the level's obstacles are going to be a factor in any normal play of the game. The idea here was to see if there was any significant noticeable difference in each to form's speed, and i couldn't find anything substantial. With all that being said, if anyone has any tangible evidence of a difference in max speed, acceleration, etc. found within the code or anywhere else, i'd be interested to hear it. Thanks for watching everybody!
According to the og games' source code and sonic retro super and hyper forms share the same speed variables, the only difference is that at least with hyper sonic, he gains the ability to do the attack that fills the screen with white and kills all enemies in sight along with gaining the ability to breath underwater
By a slight technicality, the faster palette updating of hyper sonic can cause extra lag. Highly unlikely though, palette animation code isn’t exactly the main bottleneck in that game
@@malachigv the palette system the games on genesis use are made so they can rapidly change it's values since it is manipulated using asm what may cause lag it's if a bunch of particles are loaded at once since hyper sonic emanates this particles from his center and going in a circle motion depending on wich way the player is facing
Yeah I knew for a while the Hyper Forms weren't any faster. The draw was really the new abilities. Which themselves weren't even that good, but hey, you feel like a boss when you do it for the first time.
Apparently the game crashes on console if you play as Tails alone in Labyrinth Zone in the new update…which makes the game completely uncompletable as Tails….it’s extremely unacceptable that something that obvious wasn’t fixed before the update rolled out.
@@budgetcoinhunter The tracks used in Origins are probably sourced from a pre-November 1993 prototype that hasn't been leaked online. Some are identical or very similar to how they were in the 11/1993 proto. It's safe to assume they are remastered.
I always felt that hyper sonic in S3&k was a little bit slower but after many years of playing the game i started to feel that hypersonic just gets to max speed a little bit slower, i might be crazy though
The illusion of the after images, the idea that a hyper form is an upgrade to the super form, the fact you never play Super Sonic and Hyper Sonic back to back, level obstacles impeding either form from reaching top speed consistently, placebo effect, and mostly just playing through the game without giving much thought to if the 2 different forms have the exact same speed or not.
In my mind, i believe they wanted to have super amy like super tails in the OG S3K, but sega didnt want that, and gave amy a super and hyper form, but forgot to say that super amy is unlocked. So it makes me happy that there was plans for no hyper tails or hyper amy and just have super forms when they got the super emeralds
