Lovely demonstration of the super block and fascinating to see how well it worked at crushing traffic! Wonderful video pacing, too - very laid back and relaxing. Great work!
I'm so happy you included a native roundabout tool. Here in Slagelse, Denmark where I live there are so many roundabouts, and even some cul-de-sacs in the north eastern part of town, so this'll make it so much easier to copy the features I'm used to.
Great example of people first city design! love it. I want more of this @CitiesSkylines really we need more people first city design tools to build cities that fit into the 21st century. I still feel like CS 2 is based on a 60s modernist american mindset of city development and it is frankly disappointing. Less space for cars and more space for people. why can't we decide to build community services without dedicated parking. A school in a city would not need a square kilometer for parking space... simply a good public transport connection. and don't get me started on bike infrastructure. where are the bikes? CS feels outdated already on launch. this is simply not on par with modern city planning design. make it more sustainable and more people and community centric. we don't want another car infrastructure simulator..
I also like having no street parking so they all park in my parking lots haha. Also, moving the building without the snapping was an interesting detail I didn't know about! Your city really came to life when you hit that play button 🙌
The best start to CS2 gameplay so far and I've watched quite a few- you actually shared that you have spent a lot of hours prepping and learning and it SHOWS! Thanks for the tips and the "this is not CS1" comments - I believe other creators are having that particular issue. I love your Super Block City and, yeah, I'll be doing one too. A great way to learn the game play. Can't wait for your next two!
Love hearing your thoughts on all of the buildings and details. Really enjoyed seeing the community centers take place and the stories you came up with like the company lunches/picnics! So excited to see more from you! ❤
i love the way this sequel has everything that the community requested. this game studio seems very respectful to the gamer, and can't wait for life by you, maybe also try victoria 3 even if i'm not an huge fan, because it's a strategy game based on economy, with super positive reviews, and i don't like traditional strategy game, because it's too focused on war between countries. i'm more into management and builders rather than strategy games. definitely the most important upgrade of city skylines 2 is the interface, because you don't need anymore 100 mods who makes your interface looks like a labyrinth or a forest. i also think about console players, who can't have mods, and will enjoy this episode much more than the previous for that reason. have a good day, take care.
What a lovely start with superblocks! Lved the tip to plop the buildings a bit far from the road so that you have some space for detailing! Also love your excitement while building! Such a pleasure to watch 🥰
Joy, this is awesome! I love this idea. Also, I did NOT even think about using the small roundabouts to create the cul-de-sacs.. That's huge. Great video, love the direction you took.. This is a great way to start a city especially for folks just looking for inspiration to get going with all these new tools.
13:28 The only thing I would do is shift the parking lots to the side of the super block that traffic flows directly into. That way it doesn't hit the pedestrian area at all minimizing everything but service cars.. If that makes sense. So like top right corner, but one block in of the super block. That way its inner city. But omg I love this!
I'm back, just in time for CS2:Barcelona! Now roundabouts are standard, all trees are saplings, and population is just a number. Strange times, indeed! At 7:45 the blue car with a camper trailer is shaking wildly. The same for the trailer a couple of cars behind. Maybe a bug, but really minor. Yay for ped bridges! Not so yay for parking, maybe? The game treats those like they are a public service, but in my city they are just another business type. IIRC, parking lots were also a commercial asset in Sim City 3000. The way they are done now seems a bit fetishistic, innit? That high school is so fine, centred on the road like that. Those farms already look better than the last game, and that's before DLC! The parks are also nice, but should occupy better the available space. So good that you are liking the game so far!
Hello!! Nice to see you. Yes, it’s exciting times and yeah there’s definitely some bugs but overall it’s been really fun to play. I’m excited to show you guys more.
Everybody using the parking lots is great! And I like the pedestrian squares you've placed. Hearing your excitement playing this game, as well as the other content creators, makes watching these videos even better.
@@JoyBuildsCities Creating that playlist is really appreciated, and made me subscribe to the channel. (Like the superblocks idea, will certainly watch it) Have to start with CPP, he made me buy CS 1 and spend too much time playing it.
I don't know why this showed up in my recommended videos, but I'm glad I watched it. I'm just smiling throughout the whole video from your joy and enthusiasm for all the little details... I guess your name is really fitting haha
This is really great. I'm glad that someone finally decided to take CS2 and do something that was next-to impossible to properly to do in CS1. I had this exact same idea, and I'm happy to see that Barcelona-style superblocks do in fact work in CS2. Especially the way the one-way roads work together with the pedestrian roads inside the blocks is awesome.
i think it would be cool to see you take this concept and adapt it for more challenging terrain that isn’t big flat open space, having to adapt it for different elevations and places where there simply isn’t room for a giant square grid. could result it some creative blocks with different shapes suitable for all kinds of areas
Really interesting technique -- no dark deep canyons as in most of the other first play videos. I like the open look. And the smaller farms look a lot better than big ones.
Looks like the superblock concept seems to be going along really well with the new features in C:S2, at least from what i can tell via the thumbnail :D I like actually seeing pedestrian paths and so on, kinda feels like there weren't that many in the cities they used for the dev videos, so it's nice to get a better look at them here ^-^ And i notice these cul-de-sacs look really smooth, maybe that new roundabout tool also works for them? 👀 Thank you so so much for the video, it is MUCH appreciated that you're here to show us some early gameplay of C:S2 😻 Looking forward to the premiere and watching all the other videos together 💛 ALL the best ❤
Hey, I just wanted to tell you, your video about cs2 made me the most happy and excited about the game out of all the other creators i watchen (about 10 id guess). What differents you, from all the others, is that you really seem to make an effort to build a liveable city. In the last few years, id taken an intrest in how we designe our cities and that car dependency and un-walkable/cyclable enviorments is not something anyone should aim for. Every since i developed that intrest, i could not play cities skylines 1, because (even tho there is plenty of public transport) you cant really build pedestrian oriented/liveable cities (even with the pedestrian dlc). I had the same feelings for cs2, but you showed me that is is (more) possible than in cs1 to build a real liveavle place. So I just wanted to thank you for your effort!
Actually this is really how I felt, I did get access to a beta version, but this was not paid (I am not big enough for that, yet) I am so grateful as I am such a small creator that I got to make this video. I also covered all the Dev Diaries with my pal FlyVox, if you would like to catch those. :)
@@JoyBuildsCities so you got access to the beta and the PR said here, have fun but we don't pay you. Thats highly unlikely. I also haven't noticed any feedback in the video about it, either because its a voice-over or because, like i said, that you got paid for it to make a positive video about it. The reason why i say this is because literally all CC's talk about how good the game is, but have 0 feedback or things for improvement, hence why im pretty much certain that its paid. Would be strange if they give away free access to make a video but get nothing in return for making a video.
@@-never-gonna-give-you-up- seems like you’ve missed my whole entire series on the Dev diaries leading up to this. I have no reason to be dishonest, but hey, you do you.
First time watcher, but a longtime lover of Cities Skylines - I've got to say your excitement is contagious. Loved watching your city grow - it's gonna be a lot of inspiration for when I finally get my hands on the game too!
Huge thanks for not only sharing this awesome video but also for curating that fantastic playlist featuring the first gameplay videos. It's clear you've put in some effort to make our viewing experience top-notch. 🙌 Can't wait to see more! 👏
Edit : looks like you cant house on a round about. However we can still make them. In the uk its not uncommon to have round abouts with houses round them in a cul de sac. I will 100% be implementing this into my cities depending on how/if you can put houses around the roundabout. Alot of shapes tbh. Where my mum lives theres a small rectangular green at the end of the road with houses all round. The road kicks left into a narrow lane that takes you round the back to parking and garages. Not sure this one is possible without mods.
On one hand, I loved the pedestrian friendly design of this city. On the other, this lady is so incredibly wholesome that I may have accidentally become a slightly better person just listening to this video, and I am not sure how I feel about that. I am going to go with mostly good with a dash of confused, final answer.
Excellent showcase! That is fabulous news about the variations you get when placing parks. I had no idea that was the case with what we've seen so far. So, something I noticed that fits with this (unless I got it completely wrong), Is that I saw two creators place the same unique building (pop music stars home, I think) and they were both completely different buildings. So unless I got that wrong, it looks like this same concept applies to more than just parks. That takes away some concern about every city looking the same with the same assets. Anyway, great vid, so glad you pushed through!
Love your new little intro, this is really really lovely! 😻 I think going with the superblocks is an awesome idea, these are great to put all the new features in C:S2 to the test, aren't they? ^-^ So nice what the base game already has for us, stadiums, parking lots, trams, pedestrian roads are all really nice features that were only added much much later in C:S1. And these new things seem really really cool, the road tools are looking so so smooth and nice, aren't they? Seems like the game is now MUCH more flexible when it comes to connecting different roads together and so on 💛 And i love that they allow you to add different things like trees, grass, wide sidewalks and so on to ALL roads in a pretty modular way, that has so much potential :) Totally agree on the cute landfill :D I think that custom shape feature is really really cool and they apparently used it for lots of different buildings and aspects of the game ^.^ For example these little family farms are looking great, those new fields using that tool are awesome 💛 Really liking your road- & city-layout, looking and working really nice 💛 It's really neat that these cul-de-sacs are possible using the roundabout tool, isn't it? :) I love these pedestrian paths, too, they are integrating into the roads so smoothly ❤ And it is really great, in my opinion, that you can directly use the path tool to create pedestrian crossings on roads, that makes so so much sense for the workflow! 😻 And speaking of paths, that covered bridge looks really really cool, it's so nice that the game has these options! 🎉I hope they will add more of those to the game in the future via DLCs & CCPs and so on ^-^ I'm also really glad that the game is much less grey and so on when you turn off the fog, feeling and looking so much better, in my opinion ^-^ Though i guess at least for now, every single folly-grown tree will be really precious :D Joe the Tree says hello 👋 I feel like there will be tons of little features and tricks that the community as a whole will discovers once the game fully releases, I'm looking forward to seeing what crazy things people come up with :D Tiny example: Around 10:13 in your video, when you're building the pedestrian bridge, it looks like the road intersection would kinda automagically adjust itself to make room for a pillar if you place the bridge right over the road/intersection, doesn't it? kinda wonder how much flexibility the game really has in these situations 🤔 Obviously there's also quite a bit to criticize and of course plenty of room for improvement, but i kinda don't feel like reiterating and focusing on that right now :D Honestly, i kinda imagine that playing this new game must have been really really overwhelming, especially within the first hours of it. So many new things, so many things are different, so much to learn and look at and be mindful about. And then all of this is of course paired with the stress that comes with making videos about it and so on. The reason why I'm mentioning this so specifically is that I want you to know that I REALLY REALLY appreciate you putting in this time, this work and this energy for us to give us this wonderful first look, I really love it! ❤💛💚 I am very much looking forward to seeing the next "episode" of this, it's exciting to possibly see public transport and so on if you'll be allowed to show it off to us then! ❤ Once again thank you so so much for the video, really love it! 💛 And I also REALLY REALLY loved hanging out with you and watching all the other ones, that was so so much fun! 😻 See you on Discord of course 👋 ALL the best 💚
Glad you like the intro! Yes, the road tools are really amazing and very smooth. And yes we really get so much in this base game that we have been asking for. Yes, I am excited to learn even more about the game through all the amazing videos left to watch. Aw, thank you so much, it sure can be overwhelming, but it is just for me about taking things one step at a time. I am so excited to keep building in this city! I will see you on Discord and for Skyday!!
Very cool layout! All the blocks of the same size is reminiscent of Barcelona. One thing I would say though is that pedestrian bridge is really tall! Is there a way to lower it? Unless due to topography, most traffic and pedestrian overpasses are only just tall enough for trucks and busses to fit beneath, usually 4-5m~
That was just me not quite familiar with using the tools yet, but I was able to go back in and make the bridge a more reasonable height. I’m so glad you enjoyed the video!
That was a great video. I definitely learned a lot from that and gained ideas I’ll hold onto until release and then try them out. The parks really excite me because I feel like I will be able to do so much with them and I really like that small roundabout idea to make cul-de-sacs because that makes it more realistic. I live on one and it’s for sure round. I can’t wait to experience this game for myself and I want to know if anyone else noticed that lady cim almost get run over by a speeding police car in the end?
Thank you so much, really glad I can be helpful and show off a few things. I think for you this game will be a game changer. All the things you will be able to do on console, I can't wait to see what you create!
25:17 is it me or do those thing on the right by the row houses look like bike racks? And at 25:23 there are different ones. Does that mean bike will come soon after launch if they already have bike rack props? I hope so! Nice city btw, can't wait until you are allowed to show more.
Lovely video, looking forward to future content from you (I see there's one coming soon already). The algorithm picked your video to show me and I'm definitely sticking around. Love your vibe
Not quite sure about your reliance on the pedestrian walkways in every super block, but your enthusiasm for designing your city is infectious. I thoroughly enjoyed your video! Great job!
Man, I really love the city you created, and also how lyrical you are about every single detail. Subscribed - I just know I'm going to find a lot of inspiration in your videos in times to come. Can't wait for the release.
Thanks for appreciating the detail on all the building models, I think it looks incredible. I hope future asset packs will add more variants for these buildings too, to avoid them looking repetitive.
Really lovely to see someone build in the way that I'm excited to try building in the new game! I was thinking to do even more pedestrian-only but this relatively conventional version is very good for the demonstration, and it seems like there's no real transit available this early in the game. Also very much appreciated going into detail on the advanced road mechanics since I've only seen a little about that. I think most people doing this (or at least most of the ones RU-vid showed me) were trying to fit as much content as possible into the 30 minutes. I don't know about the landfill right up against the water. I'm sure the game doesn't model the pollution from that but it would still bother me, thinking about all the flyaway trash winding up in waterway. Probably my biggest disappointment with CS2 is that the parks are ploppables. I really preferred the Parklife system where you could define a park anywhere and make it however you want just with its internal features. It's a shame to see that while agriculture gets a so much nicer system, parks get worse instead. Even though the assets themselves are very nice, but imagine having full control over all those variations? Thank you for the fun pleasant video that goes into such nice detail.
Yes, I love that. We have pedestrian options right off the bat. I do also hope for a little more flexibility with the park spaces. I think this game has a lot of potential, and a really good base to work from. I couldn’t really see how things could be added to this. Yes, in hindsight, it probably wasn’t the best placement. However, once we’re off the island, I’m thinking will re-purposed that space and turn it into a park and get a recycling center and make a new dump inland. Glad you enjoyed it overall excited to show you guys more.
Well done Joy, I've had something of a hard time to judge how much of an upgrade SC2 would be from watching others videos. This gave me a much better feel for what's new and different.
YES - Superblocks!!! Thank you for your preview. I am so looking forward to CS2, because like you, the features you've demonstrated, "I just cannot!"...very nice.
Path and street building is much more smoother than in CS1. It was always such a pain to not being able to just pull them through all the way. Not sure about the trees. Having to wait until they have grown to see how it looks like, not that appealing. Maybe they build in a toggle or Modders will fix this. The cemetary looks so great. I really hope they put in a line tool in the final release. From the looks of it, gamepley is slower then in CS1. The ending 🤣 Love the new intro.
The paths are so smooth, and yes love all the road tools. I hope we get a tree toggle for full grown trees. and, yes we need a line tool for sure, especially with all these cute new bushes! Glad you like the end and the intro - those are here to stay!
Brand new subscriber here. Your Cities II start is my favourite so far! Looking forward to watching your Cities I videos, and following your new Cities II ones when they're released. Found you via City Planner Plays (I think) when you did the list of all the new Cities II videos.
You've got a new subscriber. I always struggle with the creative side of this game. My cities end up looking nothing like real life so I'm really trying to learn what makes nice cities. I hope I can learn some of that from this channel.
Your JOY is so infectious! I'm watching the video smiling. Really love four gazebos park and the four farms. The variations! 😍 I'm just getting a bit sad I myself have to wait to the end of October to play 🥹
Yeah, it’s because I did one of my one-way roads incorrectly and it was the only way they could reach the parking lot it’s fixed now and now no one uses that pedestrian road.
A couple of questions about your zoning, please. Did the mixed residential offer in each block work for happiness? I was worried I wouldn’t be able to make blocks with low, medium and high capacity residential together because they’d have different needs for land value and education. Have you found that a problem? Also does your commercial do ok despite not having vehicle access for deliveries? I love your approach here, it’s just the sort of thing I’m hoping to build when I get CS2, but I was worried that the game mechanics would hinder me. I’m looking forward to seeing your future videos 😊
After seeing all the dev diaries most of my concerns for cities 2 vanished because they just completely redid the gameplay elements unlike in vicky and crusader kings were essential elements were just cut. This looks awesome and i am happy to see it. I have one question now though (written around 14 minutes) : is it possible to build pre-decorated roads? I like the odea of everything being a mod or an upgrade to previous infrastructure, but it looks tedious to upgrade a road 4 times to get tree and grass on both sides of the road. Did i miss something there because i watched your video on a smallscreen or do you actually have to do that all the time? Other than that this video and the game look so awesome. Love your build!
Just found your channel today , and I'm hooked awesome content , I see some great recognition in the comments , it's always a warm feeling to see people pay respect to each other and recognize talent .
Lovely video you made Joy. So much fun to see how all you lucky people do so much different stuff. Real helpful for when we finally can start playing ourself.
aw, thank you Dimi. Yes, same! I have learned so much just from watching all the other videos! I think it is so good they gave access to a wide variety of builders.
Thank you very much for this preview gameplay if Cities Skyline 2. Unfortunately I missed the first and I was so glad when CS2 was announced. Hope October 24th will come quickly ! Nice day and nice game for you and everyone playing and watching. 😊🙋♂️
Honestly the complete lack of bike lanes, and any bicycle related infrastructure at all is what killed the hype for me. Hope you guys have fun with it, but maybe i'll get into it if there's a bike mod or DLC.
Great video this game makes me so happy everything looks so amazing and clean. this only the beta version! i am glad that you are having fun and other players too ! I can’t wait to sit on my couch and start building my city on ps5 . ❤
You know, Milton Keynes in England tried to do the grid approach, trying to copy the Americans, but it came out looking all wonky, but also kinda superblock looking. But then they put in pedestrian and bicycle lanes that connects the superblocks making it possible to bike all over the city. Doesn't really remove all the complaints abo
I rarely comment but this is incredible! i was so captivated my the road layout, my head is full with ideas. I will shamelessly copy this when CS 2 comes out
I usually never comment, however, this video gave me so my much serotonin!!! This was so wholesome and so cute! I’m definitely going to rewatch this when the game comes out!!
