Wearing the sweater blazer open as a layer like in 1:04 is probably the best application I’ve seen. When buttoned up, it looks like it doesn’t know what it wants to be
I like how brands are experimenting by combining different elements of different clothing pieces. Such hybrid or fusion pieces can bridge gaps in formality.
Just found a 1960s Brooks Brothers sweater blazer, really well constructed and heavy weight wool + made in Italy. I am sure it will be around another 60 years if treated with care
@@Chris2thepher the one I picked up is a knitted sweater, w/o metal buttons, has open front pockets and notch lapels similar to 1:03, 6:09 and 8:09. I do agree the metal buttons are off-putting 😷
@@JeremySoja Definitely better with standard buttons. There are obviously many exceptions, but cardigans generally seem preppy to me compared to sports coats. The ones you pointed out aren't bad.
Thanks, Kyle and Company. I’ve seen these pop-up when I’m doing online shopping and I was curious about them. I think I’ll sit this one out. I’ll stick with my BB marino wool V-necks which serve a similar function and pair well with an actual blazer
In all honesty I don't see a time and place where I'd wear this. If you just want something to keep warm around the house a fleece pullover will be more comfortable and it would be easier to find a weight appropriate for the temperature you keep your house at. If you want something to make a quick run to the coffee shop on your day off but don't want to resurrect your band T-shirt and sweats from your college days I think a shawl collared cardigan would be a better option. About the only situation where it might be appropriate would be if you're an older supervisor at a tech company and you want to have some degree of formality without going "full suit". In that case, though a dress shirt and cashmere pullover would be a more traditional choice, if you're starting to put on a few pounds as you grow older the lines of a sweater blazer might help to camouflage your waistline a little better than a tight pullover would;).
Would I wear one to my office probably not. Court, never. But I love a sweater blazer for working at home, zoom meeting, or just to were at home... Looking forward to wearing mine as soon as temperatures finally drop
I have a navy double breasted cashmere sweater blazer from Polo Ralph Lauren like the one shown in this video. It's a great piece that I wear whenever I want to wear something a bit more formal than a sweater but don't want the structure of a blazer. I wear it with a tie and dress pants and its great for the fall or winter. I don't own any cardigans and was on the fence about it but after acquiring a sweater blazer, I will stick to them and avoid cardigans. Clothing can fit into the 3 archetypes: the Refined, Rugged or Rakish archetypes. The sweater blazer combines the Rakish and Refined archetypes quite nicely.
FrankenFashion, to be sure, but more presentable than a hoodie or sweatshirt. I would prefer either a sweater or a blazer, but can see the advantages of this style for some people. Fashion innovations that are neither here there end up being nowhere in particular.
I'm on the fence. I own a couple, but never wear them. Anytime I consider wearing one I always put on a cardigan instead, granted they are shawl lapel cardigans and one is double breasted
Not sure I’d do a double breasted one but the single breasted looks nice. I think the traditional cardigan works better but having one as an occasional alternative, like on a casual date, might be nice. Worth experimenting with anyway.
I think it's somewhat deliberately?) disingenious to ask if it could be "replacing" the traditional blazer, as that's not what it seems to be intended for. Personally, I see it as a slight step up in formality from the classic cardigan, perfect for at home wear or the home office. I don't see them as "outer wear" to replace a traditional blazer, sports coat or suit jacket, though.
I just don’t quite get it. Why not just go for that cardigan, or even a classic V-neck sweater? No judgment for anyone who likes these things, but I think I’ll sit this trend out
I can see it becoming a timeless piece. Wearing it around the house and going out for small errands seems like a perfect use case for the sweater blazer. Not very casual like a hoody but can serve a similar purpose with a bit more style. I guess it depends on what you wear around the house though in general.
I just don’t understand the haters. Why have such a strong opinion? If you have one, it just becomes a choice, an option in your particular wardrobe to execute your own personal style. Maybe you want something different than that same ol’ cardigan you always wear into the sea of cardigans for this year’s holiday parties.
To date I just haven't seen one that looks better than a shawl collar cardigan when considering drape, the sweater blazer either looks too stiff or too worn or the ends of the lapels look odd. I just haven't found one around here that looks any decent.
Love the sweater blazers for two reasons - work environments these days are much more casual and the sweater blazer fits in perfectly, it’s a step up compared to what my peers are wearing, most of them being millennials . 2. The standard blazer you stick in your closet for years go in and out of style depending on if you have metal buttons or not like right now, the gold buttons on my 1000.00 navy blazer are out of style right now so it sits in the closet until the gold button trend comes back.
