ordered a Roscoe 7 in June 2022..........and It showed up last week!!! It's the same bike in the review, and while waiting 2 years is completely nuts.........I'm glad I did. I'm In Brantford Ontario, and, this is my first "new" bike. Keep in mind, I just turned 65 so I have a lot of learning to do on this thing.......
3 of my 4 LBS' that sell TREK have multiple Roscoe 7s in stock waiting to be bought lol.....I can only find a size XL in the 9 locally though. Wait for a M/L in the 9 is July of 2023 though lol
Watched your video about the Checkpoint ALR 4 and bought it, now watching this video and buying this one, your videos are really good James, so informative and well delivered, thanks for your help and helping me make may decision on this bike.
funny i bought a rei coop drt 2.1about 2 years ago and aside from the suntour fork ,and it was leaps and bounds far advanced from the roscoe the main thing that sold me was the boost axles on the bike not the 141 that was sold on the trek .but now im happy its full boost spacing 148 glad ,trek finally came around to changing that.
4th Generation is correct for the "current" Roscoe. The Roscoe was sold under the Gary Fisher label as a 140mm full-suspension 26" rig for 2009 and 2010 before being replaced by the 29er Rumblefish. That 26er Roscoe was sweet while it lasted.
@@Chris-de2qc the raceface is lighter stronger...and it says raceface! The biggest thing I've had happen to me with cheaper cranks is stripping the threads out of the arms when dropping or jumping.
@@pelisinho frame geo is better for downhills and jumps, but the part spec is worse. Though the Stoic is $1200 vs like $1800 for the Roscoe. I managed to get the Stoic for a steal from someone who ordered the wrong size.
@@ItsMeHammie I see, thank you for answering :) I have ordered the new Roscoe, but it has been a year and the estimate for delivery is still January 2023, meanwhile the price has rised almost 500$, so I'm looking at alternatives, I don't think the new price is justified :/
@@ItsMeHammie yes the shop told me that the price will be the updated price at the time of arrival. Roscoe 7 costs 1700€ now. I do love it tho, I chose the blue color with black logo that has some "dots" effect, it is so pretty!
To say the previous bike was more playful makes it clear you have not ridden the new one. They are vastly different bikes an the old Roscoe was not quite playful in its own right. Good bike, but not playful.
@@Jamesthebikeguy The new frame etc, makes it better than last model. 27+ on that frame, would make it even better. Other who have tested it, complains about nervous wheels in high speed. And yes I tested it today, and still wish they were 27+ 😁😁
I bought mine month ago, i got eThirteen Lg1 wheels instead of Bontrager but no Raceface cranks... I guess they come on different set ups due the shortages? 🤷🏻
For another 700 you can get a stumpjumper with 35 fork and full squish, makes buying a 30lb 2 Grand hardtail harder. 1500 or so is the sweet spot for a trail hardtail unfortunately pushed out by the COVID supply chain issues
Completely agree! $2000 for this? Pre Covid I bought a stumpy and it was decked out all shimano slx components and a rhythm fork! These companies are making ppl think they are really getting their moneys worth these days. This bike should be no more than $1300. Def not $2000
@@Chris-de2qc sooo yeah, you're really proving my point. full suspension is significantly more complicated than a hardtail. Hardtail designs have barely evolved compared to FS. Even just factoring in engineering costs to design the suspension. So for a hardtail to even reach full suspension prices it should be rocking fox suspension at least. Sx and deore are actually closer in price than maybe you think so that actually doesn't count. They are both entry level components despite deore being a smoother drivetrain. A Gx derailleur is like 100$. The suspension is not that far off either. So you'd actually be making a poor decision to buy this over the entry level stumpy, which can be easily upgraded over time to be as capable as any trail bike currently made.
@@hippiebits2071 the point was that the price is kind of a ripoff for what you get. It's not about everyone wanting or needing a FS. Rocky mountain growler for 1400$ right now on sale, now that's what hardtails should be priced at
I don't want to say your bike is bad, because it isn't, but the Marlin is a cross country bike. It's not comparable to this. The Roscoe has 40% longer travel, beefier brakes, better drivetrain, no front derailleur, dropper post, a much wider handlebar, tubeless tires, and it's lighter. It's double the price, for sure, but it's not just because the frame geometry is different and they can charge more for it.
@@kihealthandwellness i sure have. In fact, that is how i found this channel, and i figured it would be better to ask an “expert” who has experience with these things. Unfortunately, google doesn’t tell you if a youtuber cares about his subscribers or not. But hey, you keep kissing hiney because that’s what you seem to do best 👍
I’m 41 years old. I haven’t ridden a bike since I was about 16 and was racing my Haro Group 1 SI…… anyway. Is this bike overkill for a guy looking to ride with his kids and maybe hit a trail or 2? Should I just get the Marlin?
Same boat here, same age too haha.... Haven't owned a bike since a teen and was kinda set on the new Marlin 8 before nerding on the specs and checking out the Roscoe linup. From the majority of reviews and comments on many many videos, the consensus seem to be that for the money the Marlin 8 should have some more modern upgrades that are basically all found in the new Roscoe 7. Better (more modern) frame, thru axels front and rear, tapered head tube, dropper post, better crankset and bottom bracket, etc. I think I'll likely just go this route (Roscoe 7) and have maybe too much bike for my needs and skill vs. buying inferior parts that I may need to upgrade and some of which are not possible with the Marlin frame and wheel set.
@@Jamesthebikeguy it's the same thickness tubing as the Marlins . I would've liked to see something a bit more robust for what you are spending on the bike.
Trek are milking every last drop of the Covid bike craze IMO. I wonder how many bikes they’ll sell at full retail, now that things have calmed down , supply chain is back to normal and used market is saturated?
@@guitarlessonsnow3431 I think so too. Love the Miami paint on the 7, but think I may have to look elsewhere for more value. Watching tons of videos... Lol
I really wish they didn't ruin the paint scheme by adding those black spots all over that beautiful blue color. It looks sooo clean from a distance, but then when you get closer, it just ruins the aesthetic.
It's not a Roscoe. With that 29" on the rear, you just lost the light and poppy, easy to direct rear end. A 29" anything is not rowdy. BMX is rowdy. Rosco WAS kkind of like a BMX. They just made it a downhill/ Enduro bike by geo numbers. It's not a Roscoe.
