I pick and choose with the McFarlane stuff. While I do appreciate his contribution to filling the domestic DC figure void for the last few years, they are a little weird sometime. Most of the ones I have are decent enough, but they always feel just shy of being real awesome with a few tweaks. It really makes me miss the DC Icons line and seeing where that was headed before it got cancelled.
Oh interesting. Was that like a premium line? All of these “almost great” figures makes me think they should offer a $40 version of stuff that has more care put into it.
@@NostalgiaUnboxed it was a 6” scale line with a good array of accessories and paints that were priced at the same as legends at the time. It suffered because Mattel had their abysmal Multiverse line in the big retailers and DC Direct only had Icons for sale in specialty shops and online retailers. They made leaps and bounds in such a short amount of time. They stack up real nicely with all of the current MAFEX DC offerings in terms of scale and aesthetics.
So that wasn’t actually Ezra Miller causing all that mayhem, it was Reverse Flash trying to frame him. I do like the makeshift Flash/Batman suit figure just because nobody has ever done that in either the comics, animated movies, or live action movies, and I do think it’ll all make sense when we watch the Flash movie. P.S. The unmasked Keaton Batman looks like Micheal Myers 😖
Haha! That darn reverse flash always causing problems. I like the idea of a makeshift suit, but that thick cowl in the trailer seems strange. Haha. Keaton Batman somehow never upgraded his movement over the years. Lol
I’m a McFarlane collector almost exclusively. The figures based on actors never really look close enough to the real person. Mcfarlane excels in sculpt and value but is lacking in paint across the board. Still, I always feel like I get my money’s worth.
As a life-long Flash fan, I’m going to say no. McFarlane figures are terrible. I get the whole “their affordable” argument, but they are just bad figures. Tough, stiff plastic makes it a chore to pose. Their proportions are also always out of wack. Easy pass unless you’re a die hard DCEU fan and absolutely need them.
Interesting! These were all incredibly easy to pose for me. Just wish there was some more swivel in the legs. I think if you’re a die-hard fan of a character you would just save the money and buy something really nice.
I agree. I think McFarlane is over rated, the proportions are usually off, and I hate the bulbus wrist and ankles. Just my opinion. For such an innovator he really seems to have stalled out as far as action figures go.
Yeah you were right about the lighting his lightning is blue but I think they were a little rushed to get these figures out so they had to go with yellow (for young Barry)
As a DC Multiverse collector, I do want to say that the horrible head sculpts are 100% a one off. Other figures normally look quite a lot like the actors. Great review! 😊
@@NostalgiaUnboxed No problem! This is my first time on your channel and based of this review, I'll be watching much more of your videos! Have a good one!
IMO (not that anyone asked): Mcfarlane DC figures = Hasbro Figures. Too many inconsistacies from both companies for me to collect, which is a bummer because Todd McFarlane as an artist is someone I admire a lot AND I am a huge fan of the Star Wars Droids. I have a few characters (Lobo, 89batman, Clown, Violator, Doom Guy, Marauder) and even those figures have huge flaws....except Violator, he's my perfect boy :) Proud to say your reviews helped me become an "out-of-box-collector". Upon opening some of these figures I began to realize how poor quality(while backed by a huge brand name) is huge turn off for me when buying new figures. side note: you have an amazing spread of talent there dude, keep up the good work!
There is a great value with McFarlane action figures. McFarlane is great with texture, but light on paint. The articulation is very good. I have six McFarlane figures.
Awesome review once again Jonathan! Thank you!Welcome to the McFarlane world! He makes figures that you get bang for your buck! Try to get your hands on some of his "Mega Figures" the "Bane" and " " Swamp Thing" ( plane green one without horns) are mind blowing good figures! (McFarlane toys please take note this man does awesome reviews on this channel, if you send him free figures to review like you do with other reviewers your sales will go up )
@nostalgiaunboxed Amazon has the Ben Affleck figure and Batcycle. I think McFarlane put minimal paint on his figures because most collectors customize figures anyway. So with that he can save on paint and keep cost down. I'm elated that you enjoyed McFarlane figs, i wanted to suggest his line to you because there is only so many NECA and Super 7.
Mcfarlane is a lot better value since it’s privately owned and not a publicly traded corporation. They don’t need to pay stock holders and can choose to spend the extra on new sculpts. I’ve got lots of mcfarlane and Star Wars hasbro figures. Overall I’d give mcfarlane 9/10. The Star Wars figures almost always look great but are getting too expensive. I’d give them 9/10 too.
I really want the keton Batman and the batmobile but I'll just wait till my target catches up with the others hopefully I'll find it I found slimed plasma series Ghostbusters at ollie's for $8 that was a nice find
Great to see some McFarlane love finally! If you can manage to pick up some of his Megafig stuff that would be a good point of comparison when facing off against stuff like Hasbro's BAF and deluxe figure efforts. I'd recommend stuff like Spawn's Violator and Justice League's Darkseid but even then normal releases like any of the Warhammer Space Marines are just as bulky as any typical BAF.
I'm a 29 year Collector, I have built 10 different Earth's, I have 4,000 Figures. Six of those Earth's are DC. I do not McFarlane DC, I have only bought 4 McFarlane DC figures! I don't like McFarlane Sculpts, Selection, or Scale! It's almost all Batman, they mostly look like they have Down's Syndrome! In many ways McFarlane is a Genuis and a Legend, but IMHO his DC line stinks! I like, and I am buying his Warhammer stuff! I have; Earth 1: Main DC Earth 2: Justice Society Earth 3: Crime Syndicate Earth 6: Kingdom Come style Earth 23: Expanded Watchmen style Earth 35: Created Equal, All Female style If I thought that DC Figures were any good at all, I would buy them. I don't.
Absolutely amazing collection! I can definitely understand your thoughts. I don’t think these are the best by any means, but $20 makes them ideal for many collectors with a budget.
Some of my DC Highlights are; A 27 member Justice League with 8 Reserves A 17 member Titans even after throwing Beast Boy back into the Doom Patrol A 20 member Green Lantern Corps 8 Outsiders A 42 member Legion of Doom A 31 member Justice Society A 13 member Crime Syndicate, with only 7 released members. The Earth 35, All Female, Created Equal Earth was not planned. I also used to own the local Comic Book Store, for 24 years. The Media Chain Hastings went out of business, and as the local Comic Book Guy they gave me first pick. I ended up with 30 or so Female Figures, some that I had in different styles, for about $5 each; Arrowverse, Wonder Woman movie, New 52 etc. So, I ended up with another Earth. Didn't have a lot of Villainesses at first, Poison Ivy, Catwoman, Harley Quinn, Cheetah, so I have had to scramble to add extra 'Bad Girls' in, and also some Robot Villains as all Men on that Earth died.
So now that we've finally seen the last trailer to come out, where we SEE the unmasked Keaton Batman saying, "You wanna get nuts, let's get nuts", is everyone still complaining about the headsculpt on the Gold Label Batman Unmasked? Because in hand I was surprised at how good it looked, and it made alot of sense visually, when I saw the new trailer. Also, just shut up and paint the hair dark brown, and make a custom Batman 1989 unmasked, already. Because that headsculpt is perfect for that.
I've never actually bought any McFarlane DC figures. There's been a few that caught my eye but WB's idiotic gun ban irks me. I'm not buying a figure who's entire thing is he uses guns and he comes with a flipping knife. Knives are okay, by the way. No way a kid can emulate that in their own kitchen.
Yeah, it’s interesting how they decide to use some items while other brands have no limitations. And with their scale you have to find very specific third party brands making stuff to fit.
Considering many stands are well over $10 it’s definitely upping her value and good to know when I’m in need of a stand in the future. Just look for some clearance flying figures. Haha
@@NostalgiaUnboxed they initially did but some of the last few releases of flying characters did not come with them. Should be mandatory with all Superman characters at the minimum
Ive slowed down on my McFarlane collecting though i still have some of his old Movie Maniacs figures. I did really like the page punchers Batman. Looks so much like the Lee Bermejo Batman art.
EYYY MCFARLANE this is my wheel house every figure in this wave is 100% new tooling, there is one other supergirl figure from the injustice games, but they share no parts! while the face isn't perfect I really love the movie supergirl figure, I don't really have interest in getting the flash figures but I do like that they pose well
@@NostalgiaUnboxed In the Mortal Kombat line we always got a good bit of reuse I think every figure has a straight repaint of sorts The spawn line I think is all new sculpts, with maybe one reuse of the MK Spawn figure The Last Airbender line up has a few reuses of aang and zuko I believe Recently the multiverse line has introduced some "standard bodies" for easy reuse, and there can be reuse found in most gold label figures, as they tend to be a figure already made with some new parts or as a new character
I'd say I'm a Mcfarlane toy collector. I pick and choose, and they make a lot of Batman figures. So I've been minimalist on how many of those I pick up. Was not planning to get any of the Flash movie toys since my shelf has a mix of the Comic book, and Video Game figures. But they don't look too bad in this video. Sometimes the joints aren't that smooth, but there are definitely some photographers in the mcfarlane community that show what they can do. Spray Painted flash is alright, that probably is more paint than I've seen on any flash figure. I can only think of two other figures that I know have the flight stand. Batman Beyond, and Dr. Fate. Not only are they a great value for action figures. But their a steal when they go on sale.
So they don’t put flight stands in with all flying figures? That’s a bit of a bummer, especially if you’re hoping it has it for display sake. If you’re getting DC stuff I would certainly stick to comic versions. You won’t be so disappointed in the face. Haha
I love ear bashing, but have to admit mcfarlane are only figures found in common stores in AU. No gijoe/power rangers/star wars/wwe/neca/fortnite/indy/vala/motu/ML/and of course nothing over US$70 odd in 1/12 scale (horse/mez/shf/etc) - but mcfarlane always there & i Don’t mind a US$10.10 clearance figure;)
I suggest that you go for the comic figures instead of the live action figures since for some reason mcfarlane has trouble making the live action figures as great as the comic figures aside from the Shazam and black adam figures which were great for some reason oh and I suggest getting the rebirth superman it may be a straight repaint of a body that was used but that face sculpt plus articulation makes the figure in my eyes worth it
Yeah, I have noticed the figures that don’t need to look like someone are pretty good. I grabbed a multiverse Wonder Woman to repaint (the flat painted one with the battle axe). Her face looks great and even has gloss paint on her lips. Crazy
@@NostalgiaUnboxed mcfarlane is so hit and miss. The Black Adam and Shazam figures were actually pretty good. I was surprised how well done they were. But these, man what a dissapointment.
Man, I have been waiting for you to do a Mcfarlane review! Got the knightfall Azrael batman and speeding bullets Superman and Kind of like them both. Paint is really an issue with Mcfarlane but for the price I can live with the flaws. Not everybody can afford buying the high priced figures. Pre-ordered hush batman blue and Nolan's Joker. Also the high waist shorts of supergirl is called the Diaper and has been heavily criticized. Personally, I don't like it.
McFarlane cuts corners to make the figures affordable its absolutely understandable. I have the BvS Mezco Batman and I regret spending 87$ on such a tiny goofy looking figure😂
I’ve mixed feelings regarding McFarlane Toys. While they do hit it with sculpt and details, the painting is where results aren’t always good. For the price we pay, I don’t think it’s fair to expect people to always customise figures. The Arkham Knight Batman is a mess despite good accessories. Comedian Joker is probably the best for face paint application because it is unique. Arkham Knight Scarecrow is truly underappreciated. Sure the paint of his coat is wrong, but everything else is on point in a way that makes the character much scarier.
McFarlane toys are a guilty pressure of mine. Not all of them under the DC film line have horrible paint jobs. I remember Shazam 2 and Black Adam figures meeting similar standards to Marvel Legends quality. But otherwise, yeah... most of their figures tend to just have really rough paint jobs in general from the current DC toy line. Though for $20 in today's economy, you can't really say no to it. However.... with that said..... you'll never see me buying the McFarlane Toys "Batman animated series" action figures. They're no where near as good as the slightly older line of Batman animated series figures. The sculpting is way too off model from the show and the possibility is lacking.
Oh that’s crazy. I see that animated 4 pack all the time (hoping it goes clearance soon) and they seem good in the box. That’s a bummer to hear though. Interesting choice for the pack too
@@guerrerosfun8806 I am as well! I just finished repainting that Endless Winter Wonder Woman. twitter.com/nostalgiaunboxd/status/1653496076618420224?s=46&t=OqodJIO-Xkn5r5oCamDLzw
Quick can at times mean cheap a** sh¡t in mcfarlane’s case…… And didn’t you hear? Keaton now identifies as Kilmer and then there’s super-tom. it’s sad todd missed the details as they are both quite sexy in their own skin;) Worst custom flash ever - Lazy as can be. Looks as bad as movie.
i feel like you people are stucki in 1989. Keaton doesnt look like he did then, the Unmasked Mcfarlane head sculpt is what Keaton looks like NOW, in this upcoming film specifically and sure its not hot toys level but it does look like what he does in the movie. Also its TWENTY FUCKING DOLLLARS.
Well, first of all, no it doesn’t look like he does now. Second, chill out. Like, seriously just relax and remember nobody cares that much, because it is $20.
Why does the guy in the video have to be good looking though? I didn’t understand one word he was saying as I was too busy looking into his ice blue eye…..well eyes as he had two of them Ugh let me go exile myself into oblivion See you on the other side hot stuff Ok I’m gone
it sucks because I love the supergirl in the new movie and I want a figure of her but this is horrible and even the hot toys does her an injustice its sad
