I think the biggest problem with the designs, as said by Scanova, is their consistency. Some are close to paleo accurate, some are JP clones, and some are super speculative or overly monstrous. While I myself don't have much of a problem with it, it does feel a little off that something like Hypsi's design is in the same game with Utah's design

Strains WERE NOT for combat/military purposes Strains WERE made for medicinal reasons- hence the name Apollo and there was an incident that occurred on the island(s) heavily shown through the absence of human life the overgrowth of plants around buildings and it's not conducted on an archipelago of islands Gateway has a very small archipelago, but it's only one main island with one smaller shoot off And we don't know if the non-feathered ones (or the feathered ones) are shoot off mutations that AE didn't predict

As a paleo nerd and overall biology nerd, I find the isle’s designs pleasing and interesting. And as an artist, specifically a horror artist, I respect how they’ve stylized some of the dinosaurs in a grotesque and intimidating way, while making them still feel like real animals. Unlike Jurassic world, where the dinosaurs look downright childish and edgy.

Disclaimer: I have a very strict personal opinion and I don’t intend to push my opinion on you. Feel safe to love whatever you love. Okay. I understand that there is such thing as artistic liberty, but I personally feel that dinosaur designs that actively push against the scientific real world truth are disrespecting these very real animals and disrespecting people who study them. Also I understand that neither The Isle, nor the Jurassic Park are educational material, but let’s be honest here, a lot of people absorb their dinosaur knowledge from these, so the “JP-aesthetic” is detrimental to better dinosaur education. I’ll go play a game with actual dinosaurs in it and not just monsters.
@Bagelgeuse
@Bagelgeuse Год назад
To be fair, there is Saurian. Not only are the dinosaur designs as accurate as possible, but they've got an in-game encyclopedia for you to learn about every living thing in the game. That being said, I get where you're coming from. Palaeontology is a field of which dinosaurs are merely one, albeit the most popular part. Does it undermine the field if the animals most commonly associated with it are predominantly portrayed as man-made monsters or cartoon characters for kids?
@scorpiopede
@scorpiopede Год назад
While I get your main critique defending the designs, I don't think "but genetic abominations" is a good excuse for bad designs, because that's exactly it: It's an excuse. I'll break down why the designs fail in several points, regarding internal consistency, visual style, and form matching function. 1. The biggest defense for the designs of the game is that they're genetic abominations and so they don't need to be accurate, and while that is absolutely true, a lot of the species planned for the game don't really match the goals of the company. What use are something like Gallimimus to a military group? A lot of the game's herbivores are notorious for being helpless to defend themselves against even carnivores smaller than themselves, and so they fail as combat machines then and there. Even something like the Hypsi looks like it would make more sense as an exotic pet rather than a military tool. While things like the Troodon and "Omniraptor" definitely match this explanation, a lot of the other species don't. I can't imagine the Beipiaosaurus being super useful as a diving piscivore for a military operation. And to that, how could a group of experiments designed for battle support a self-sustaining ecosystem if that was never the intent? That's one HELL of a lucky stroke to pull off that they would survive more than a few years after their release. 2. I won't stay on this point for too long since Scanova made a video addressing this in greater detail, but the visual inconsistencies of the design are still bad, doesn't matter how much the shitty excuse justifies it, it's still a bad look when you can take 3 species from the same game and all of them look like they would come from different pieces of media. It's made even worse when taking into account that the species that do or don't get feathers are completely arbitrary. Oh we can't give the theropods feathers because that would be dumb, but we can give ornithiscians full fledged flight feathers because reasons. The visual inconsistency clashes incredibly hard and it ruins the sense of immersion that The Isle is trying SO hard to push for. They don't NEED to stick with accurate designs specifically, but pick one: Make them accurate, more original and stylized, or shamelessly rip off JP without an ounce of creativity to your designs. 3. The last one and probably the biggest flaw in The Isle's designs is a point you've not only brought up in this video but in previous ones as well. The Isle tries REALLY hard to create a living, breathing ecosystem, with animals that feel like they really live in this environment. Yet, a LOT of the designs don't even try to incorporate elements of the original animal into their designs, instead opting to twist the animal's anatomy to fit an arbitrary role to justify its inclusion in a bloated roster. Beipiaosaurus being changed from a terrestrial forager into a diving piscivore; Herrersaurus being twisted from a terrestrial generalist carnivore into a bipedal tree climbing lizard; and Pteranodon being a sea faring diver into a skimmer without even having adaptations made for that kind of lifestyle are all just a handful of examples of species that are twisted to fit an arbitrary life style. For a game that tries so hard to make a believable, living ecosystem, it doesn't try at all to have designs that fit with this theme. The animals are military bred yet exist in a perfectly functioning natural ecosystem consisting of a mix of cartoonishly fantastical creatures, realistic and modern animals, and JP knock-offs, all while supporting a supposed "horror" vibe. Is this to say ALL the Isle's designs are bad? No. I think Tenontosaurus is a nice stylized, more fantastical take on the animal, and they have a number of decent accurately designed animals as well, and *some* of the JP knock offs are fine in a vacuum. But taken all together WITH what the Isle is trying to do, they fail on a fundamental level and in delivering what the devs supposedly intended for them, with a good number failing at even being the animals who's name they borrow. If you want non realistic dinosaurs that bear no resemblance to their real life counterparts, just make up names for them. But of course then they don't get the publicity for saying "oh we got a T.rex like every other dino game on the market". The absolute BIGGEST offender of this is the Ankylosaurus. It fails with the internal design motif, as it feels LESS tanky than its real life counterpart and with a tail that looks extremely frail and would fail in any combat scenario. Design wise it looks incredibly out of place next to any other animal in the roster. Not to mention how it either lacks all the distinct elements of Ankylosaurus or are bastardized to an absurd degree. In terms of form meeting function, it looks so frail that it doesn't fit the "tank" role it supposedly fills, although knowing the devs and their innate carnivore bias, the Ankylosaurus' defensive capabilities will probably be as weak as those of the Parasaurolophus. But that's just my 2-cents as someone who's not only studied paleontology and engaged with paleo media for a long time, but someone who has dabbled in creature design and can understand intent alongside how accurate something is. So the TLDR: saying they're genetic abominations is just an excuse, it doesn't change bad designs from being anything more than that.
@kade-qt1zu
@kade-qt1zu Год назад
The problem with the Isle isn't just the fact that some of the designs are horrendous. Another problem is that they're inconsistent. Utah, oh I'm sorry, OMNIRAPTOR and Tenontosaurus were made with such different mindsets it's hard to believe they're part of the same game. One is a unique, stylized, take on the original creature that adds some unique quirks to it while staying true to what it was, and the other is just a lazy ripoff of a design from a popular movie series. It's so inconsistent and honestly downright irritating.
@scorpiopede
@scorpiopede Год назад
@@kade-qt1zu That's definitely one of the aspects that makes the roster infuriating, and made even worse when some don't even try to be the animal they're named after beyond the name and the most VAGUE similarity in terms of anatomy.

So, care to elaborate wich of them are even remotely JP brown in color?) Ya know, to be "rip offs"...) If scanova has a short memory - that's merely his cryouts problem. Naked gally (accepting the fact that they ever needed feathers in mongolia) is a good horse/mule substitute, besides them not getting in the way. Generally scales take hits better than feathers - hence why lizards actually wrestle, and not just slap each other lightly. Anky is in a loss cuz it's not a biped/not very manuverable and fast. Considering how many docs and dino media is out there from the start - it is the newest "realistic" pieces that need to prove what they're worth, which even now is wobbly, at best. They barely even match each other, unlike jp legacy. So, not much of a "rule". TI made consistent desighns - if it's not a fighter - it can have feathers, if it's a herb it looks like a herb bird, not the other way around like in some bs with barn owl colors on a bug eater/or pheasant raptors.

@@anicronyx2313 *I mean, who said inspiring your designs from Jurassic Park is a bad thing?* Well generally you want to make your own creative work original, not derrivative. That said the redesigns are overt downgrades from the original, they ruin the isle's oiriginal aesthetic which despite its accidental nature (being the combined product of UE4 assets and repurposed dinosaur models from TSL) was actually really good. The dinosaurs and world had both more character and were more accurate. And all of it was done away with because the devs wanted to indulge their own nostalgia.Talk about shameful. *JP has left a massive impact on how people see dinosaurs today, so it's only natural that people will base their work off of it.* What an idiotic argument. JP was the last time something with dinosaurs had a large cultural impact, but those designs themselves weren't iconic because they were aping off something else, they became iconic because they were fresh and original, were conveyed realistically, and were in a good movie. Everyone's been aping off JP for decades now as an exuse to not do research on their dinosaurs, and this has always been to the detriment of the newer properties. That's like saying all science fiction must pay homage to star wars or becomes better when paying homage to star wars, when the fact is doing something more original would be both refreshing and better. I always go into detail when talking with others about The Isle and its design choices. Most people just classify it as another dinosaur simulator, which at first glance is the case. However, give yourself time to look at the hidden details and it becomes clear there is much more going on with the game. While people usually who compare anything to Jurassic Park is looked at as a bad thing, i see this as a compliment. Jurassic Park has a history of simply denying their fans with gaming experiences revolved around the horror and themes of the first movie, which is exactly the reason we all love the franchise to begin with. Dinosaurs are dinosaurs and that is a factor of its own, but its the fear of these unpredictable animals let loose in man-made environments that keeps us so hooked. Every scenario within TI and JP involves the regression of buildings, vehicles, and even human corpses all being overtaken by overgrowth and foliage. To me, this is a clear sign of nature overthrowing mans grasp on it. Someone wise used the term "chaos effect" to summarize it. One other franchise that does an amazing job of living up to this stereotype was the fossilized Primal Carnage, a franchise i still hold dear to me for what it was and could still potentially be. I wont go into Primal Carnages history, but it follows the same inspirations that The Isle does, and both in my opinion succeed at capturing the magic of. PC was another game about genetic "dinosaurs" being created in a laboratory on and island, only to break out and start overthrowing everyone. Whereas JP has Ingen and TI has Apollo, PC had Pheonix, particularly 5 unique characters which all were deployed onto the island to fend off the Dinosaur outbreak. My point being is that although TI clearly copies looks and aesthetics from JP, this should not be considered a bad thing mostly. TI is going to give us an experience that we all created when we were little kids playing with our dinosaur toys and GIJOE action figures, and the Designs of the Dinosaurs, map, and lore are the key to selling us on that fantasy.

Given that the intention is to be a sort of hyper scifi jurassic park taken to the extreme kind of setting, I actually quite enjoy the inaccuracies in the dinosaurs. Too many accuracies would imply this to be some kind of nature simulation setting, which it isnt. Unfortunately, a lot of this scifi vibe also hinges on a lot more of the fantastical elements they were planning on adding to the game. The strains, the mutant cannibal things, etc. Things that are not in the game yet for some stupid reason.

I get the reasoning behind the in universe designs, but the game doesn't draw much attention to that. I don't feel like I'm playing as a monster when the game is trying to be so grounded and the animals still act like animals. Even with the "they're mutated" concept the designs feel uninspired. Don't get me wrong, there's great designs (teno and cera just to name a couple), but the designs that are just miming JP designs are really tiring. The whole issue kinda extends beyond just the isle; I'm sick of seeing JP knockoffs in most media. If they wanna sell the mutant idea adding more subtle mutations and variation among the roster would be nice. Also the lack on consistency is jarring; omni and hypsi look like they're from completely different universes, and I don't think that's intentional.

Now, we have more dinosaur games and we can compare their animations on how to make a certain dinosaurs unique. And I personally think, I have found that The Isle animations are very wobbly and exaggerated and it bothers me. Yeah they have cool transitions (sliding when stop sprinting, idle animation, eating, drinking or pouncing) but I still feel like the dinosaur is moving so much and exaggerated to make it cooler looking, idk that's how I feel about it.

What I have noticed is that the dinosaurs have a certain design logic that is mostly followed. The devs will try to find the best traits of both the scientifically accurate depiction of the creature, and the public identity of the creature and blend it into a mix of the two. Some animals have more public identity traits that are cool than scientifically accurate traits, so it depends on the dinosaur involved. For example, the stegosaurus is a somewhat mundane or scientifically accurate version of the creature because there isn't really a reason to be too artistic. The scientific depiction is cool enough, and it doesn't need anything else. Compare that with spinosaurus, a very fictionalized creature. Spino's public image is obviously more influential to the game's community and vision than the scientific version. It can also be interpreted as an intentional or accidental modification by Apollo Engineering. This is the general trend that I have noticed with the creatures afterthought creates. There are occasional attempts to make up random stuff using loose references like magy's neck flesh thing or dilo's pubic hair beard.

My largest problem with the dinosaur design is that despite being inconsistent they don't apply this in a way that improves gameplay. In fact, they often focus realism or immersion in regards to their dinosaur designs at the expense of gameplay, despite existing in a setting that allows them to have more creative freedom and despite them already having inconsistency in their designs. The smaller dinosaurs, such as troodon, are a perfect example of this IMO. They are struggling to balance troodon and it's small size poses a lot of issues with it's balance as well as future viability or player interest. However instead of just using their creative freedom within a setting where you can hand-wave stuff with genetic implications and making it larger, they are stubborn about keeping it at a "realistic" size. Same problem occurs with weight values, which is exacerbated ever since weight was made to equal health. They already have inconsistent designs, and they have room to stray from realism to the benefit of gameplay, but they do not and refuse to do so even when it obviously causes problems and complaints from the community. Either be consistent, or make a better game. They need to choose.

I don't think they're bad, but I'm just extremely tired of dinosaurs media ripping off JP. The Isle is _embarassing_ when it comes to that; the lore, the map, the roster, and the most iconic designs are all copied. They gave their own spin on some of the new ones, and I appreciate it, but for the rest...? I don't even get how could they create a game that is entirely coping an existing franchise. It will only get worse when they'll add humans, it'll basically be a Jurassic World bootleg

@@troythedeconstructionist1382 can you point out the place where I explicitly defended The Isle? The map’s aesthetic is fine but the quality and optimization of the entire game is absolute aids. And yes, its a rip off of Primal Carnage, I literally agreed with that. I just have a small problem with people calling it a JP ripoff specifically, because the reason for TI’s conception plays heavily into its artstyle and lore. That reason is Dondi being a selfish manchild and wanting to make the same game as the people who “wronged” him, but in a different genre. Also, calling me “idiotic” is unneccessary.
@ReeseasaurusRex
@ReeseasaurusRex Год назад
Games being similar/sharing a similar premise =/= ripoff. Taking elements of a design style while still making the designs unique =/= ripoff. By that logic, Primal Carnage itself is a JP ripoff, since its about genetically modified dinosaurs escaping on an island. But the gameplay mechanics, map design, and creature design is notably different from that of JP, despite clearly *referencing* the style JP is known for (Tyrannosaurus, Novaraptor, and to some extend Dilophosaurus are the best examples of this). JP is a movie series with its own set of characters, spinoffs, and established lore and designs. So is Primal Carnage. The difference betwern Primal Carnage and TI is that Primal Carnage was not created as a continuation of a project out of spite. The Isle is a direct rip off of PC/PCE due to Dondi’s obsession with making his own version of the game who’s dev team he was booted off of. To make the long response shorter, PCE and TI are not ripoffs of JP, but both games take heavy inspiration from the movie series. TI does it in a much worse fashion. PCE changes the designs to fit their own artstyle and visions for the creatures, while TI just copy pastes them. TI is directly ripping off Primal Carnage because the action is INTENTIONAL.
@troythedeconstructionist1382
@@ReeseasaurusRex *can you point out the place where I explicitly defended The Isle?* What does that have to do with anything? What your comment seems to be doing is denying the obvious fact that the isle explicitly rips off JP aesthetically. This is very obvious, especially to anyone who played the game when it first released because they actually had their own artstyle back then. *And yes, its a rip off of Primal Carnage, I literally agreed with that.* I might've worded that wrong. The isle isn't a ripoff of primal carnage. The games are very different conceptually. That said the lore and original crfeature designs would overlap because the isle IS a spite project made by an ex primal carnage a.k.a Dondi. That said it's kinda worthless to point that out because primal carnage itself rips off JP. And I'd say the game has pretty crap dinosaur designs. So they should not be emulated anyway. *Also, calling me “idiotic” is unneccessary.* No, it must be done. People do awful things when they forget their place.

While the majority of the creatures we've seen look to fit the part most people expect (and that's including the JP imitations), there are a few that have been shoehorned into a specific vision so different from what anyone outside this game's community expects them to be like, to the point I question why said creatures retain the names of actual dinosaur genera instead of getting renamed into fictional creations like what the devs did with the Utah/omni-raptor. Yes and no. There are similarities- A company makes dinosaurs on multiple islands. One, AE, actually makes them for Medicinal reasons- the other, InGen, for children as a park. And then something bad happens. Both companies' actual reasons, motives, uses and story are very different. AE are very "God complex" fixated- hence their name "Apollo" (after the Greek God, Apollo). Their whole naming scheme is one of Greek Mythos. AE also make genetically modified/created Humans (both Tribals and Gen2s- originally known as Mercs. But they are no longer Mercenaries).

My biggest issue with The Isle designs is their Jurassic Park inspiration. If the lore of The Isle is truly manmade company making Dinosaurs for weapons then, that should be relayed in the Dinosaur models themselves. Make the creatures look sickly and grotesque or like a mismatch of random parts that don't really seem to fit together properly. In my personal opinion though, I'd drop the Jurassic Park designs and actually try something new and inspirational. Dinosaurs are creatures that filled nearly ever niche within their ecosystem and they had many adaptations that aided them in that - take those adaptations and push them to the extreme. For example, Omniraptor is a creature that fights in packs and who's main goal is to find a pack to hunt with, because of this it has an abnormally loud voice so, give it an inflatable nostril cavity or throat pouch to help aid in that endeavor. Ceratosaurus has a bacterial bite so, make the teeth look rotten and the jaws just drooling with green saliva - maybe the bacteria is as bad for the Ceratosaurus as it is for its prey so maybe the Cera's jaws are slowly decomposing. The best way to design Dinosaurs in a setting like this is to take what they are good at and expand on that in their design. If there is something special about the creature, focus on that and make hints for that ability throughout the creature's designs. Dinosaurs were magnificent creatures whom are very closely related to today's Birds so, look at the adaptations Birds have and use that on Dinosaurs; the colors, inflatable sacks, crests, feathers, all of it can be molded with a Dinosaurs design to not only get a good Dinosaur design but a more interesting one as well.
@troythedeconstructionist1382
Following the lore would be dumb. Conceputally the lore is very shallow and practically speaking it barely even exists. Even the devs know it's secondary to the decisions they make for the game. Ultimately I feel the people who don't like The Isle designs have issues with the Devs more than the actual game. One can say it is a JP rip off but the Devs have always been open, especially in the past, that they wanted their JP Rex and it only makes sense to have some that are familiar to well known cinema to draw in people and I feel they do that wonderfully. I also believe they have reached and pasted their goal of having the best looking dinosaurs in any media but that is obviously biased on my end as well. I think if you enjoy the game great but if you don't then play something else. Stop trying to push this idea that if it's not accurate then it's not good. Both beipi and herrera have a completely different niche ingame compared to irl, but each is still recognisable as a beipiaosaurus and herrerasaurus, even though their appearances have been modified to suit their new gameplay niche better But in Scanova's video, Herrera gets in S tier while beipi is stuck in D? Accuracy is important when doing dinosaurs. Pretending it's just some fanciful extra thing entirely misses the point. Also people's "creatively liberties" usually just suck and are an excuse to replicate a particular IP or turn a prehistoric animal into some generic D&D monster. *Both beipi and herrera have a completely different niche ingame compared to irl, but each is still recognisable as a beipiaosaurus and herrerasaurus, even though their appearances have been modified to suit their new gameplay niche better* Niches are an idiotic metric to measure playables. Reality is beipi will never be able to do shit and will be stuck hiding in bushes the whole time. Herrera at least has the promise of mobility. Which it's still gonna be doing jack shit, but at least it lets you explore the map. Design wise though they're easily the least offensive designs in the game.

@@troythedeconstructionist1382 What's wrong with turning dinosaurs into D&D monsters? Especially in a game like The Isle? With so many playables that the Devs have chosen, they need to find ways to make each dino unique and engaging to play, ensuring that each has a different niche in the roster. And if that requires them to deviate from the animal's real life appearance or behaviour, I don't have a problem with that, so long as it's within my suspension of disbelief. If beipi was accurate to a real life Beipiaosaurus, it would just be stuck as a smaller theri, and would actually have nothing to do and just be hiding in bushes all the time. But since it's semi aquatic in evrima, it can use the riverways the traverse the map just like deino can, and it can escape the giant crocodile be ause it's faster than it on land, and can do that dolphin jump out of the water. Beipi also has a design that compliments this gameplay niche, with dense, waterproof feathers instead of quilled ones, webbed feet and needle-sharp teeth to facilitate it's more aquatic diet. Even it's colours are reminiscent of certain waterfowl like ducks. If herrera was accurate to a real life Herrerasaurus, it would just be another small tier carnivore and would absolutely get overshadowed by the hundreds of other playables already in that niche. But since it can climb in evrima, this gives it a unique playstyle that characterises it as a stealthy arboreal assassin that can use the trees to escape larger threats and also hunt. Herrera also has a design that compliments this niche. It's arms and legs are more equal lengths than a real Herrerasaurus to facilitate climbing, and it's brand new dewlap and vibrant colours bring to mind iguanas, suiting it's tropical climbing niche. Both playables do all of this while still being recognisable as a Beipiaosaurus and a Herrerasaurus, the creative liberties the devs took when designing them help to make these playables more unique and interesting. Once each gets added to the game, they will feel fun and engaging on account of how they differ from the other playables and how they differ from their real life counterparts.

@@troythedeconstructionist1382 if the plot of TI involved traveling back in time and bringing dinosaurs back to life, then yes, accuracy would be paramount, because the game would present the animals as being accurate contextually, and thus would need to follow up on that visually. Are TI’s designs lazy? A lot of them are, yes. Do they have to be accurate? Absolutely not. As long as they resemble their base genus, its fine by me. Personally I don’t think Beipi looks like the base genus at all but that could be the result of the devs cramming it into a niche that it had no business being in.
@troythedeconstructionist1382
@@thephilosoraptor8565 *What's wrong with turning dinosaurs into D&D monsters? Especially in a game like The Isle?* Because the entire appeal of dinosaurs is that they're real. If not we'd be making games about dragons, aliens, or spec ev creatures. And usually people's atempts to fictionalize or styleize dinosaurs ends up in bulky cringe obese messes. Like the isle's giga and spinosaursu or the majority or Ark's designs. Almost always the real animal looks better, the only exception would be the stomping land's theri, which is a speculative borderline fictionalization of the animal that makes it far cooler than it actually is. But cases like that are few and far between and they're usually done by people who know nothing of animal anatomy or with terrible aesthetic taste so you end up with wingless D&D dragons. Which both uglier and less intereting. *With so many playables that the Devs have chosen, they need to find ways to make each dino unique and engaging to play, ensuring that each has a different niche in the roster.* That's utterly idiotic. The devs NEVER had to add so many dinosaurs in the game that the they start blending into each other. This is why you select your roster carefully. If you ahve to pull some bs out the ass to make a dinosaur playable then it probably should not be in the game, or you should adapt that playstyle to another more fitting animal. Hell, I'd rather they just make up a new dinosaur at this stage. Also they're not gonna make them engaging anyway, most of these animals will be stuck n bushes forever because the devs don't know how to balance the game. *f beipi was accurate to a real life Beipiaosaurus, it would just be stuck as a smaller theri, and would actually have nothing to do and just be hiding in bushes all the time.* That's what it's going to be doing anyway lmao. And if so, then it should not have been added in the game tbh. You don't need 12 billion dinosaurs that would become obsolete with each other. Because then you're forced to pull this shit where they aren't even those dinosaurs anymore. Also falcarius is the better prototheri dinosaur. *But since it's semi aquatic in evrima, it can use the riverways the traverse the map just like deino can, and it can escape the giant crocodile be ause it's faster than it on land, and can do that dolphin jump out of the water.* Nah, it's gonna end up fucking dying the moment it steps on land, and even then the deinos will probably get it. At best it'll be stuck to water pressing E and nothing else. *If herrera was accurate to a real life Herrerasaurus, it would just be another small tier carnivore and would absolutely get overshadowed by the hundreds of other playables already in that niche.* Then it probably shouldn't be in the game tbh, or they shouldn't have saturated the game with small carnivores like they did, or it should be made 20ft long and made to be the only small carnivore at that size range. I think it's niche during 2016 when it was first added was perfectly acceptable and pretty fun, which is why I mained herrera at the peak of my time in the isle. But the dinosaur becomes redundant when you add velo, utahs, dilos, ect and now it has to compete with not just austros but a ton of other carnivores that are faster and stronger than it. That said herrera is the least of my issues. It's easily the best of the recode redesigns (not a prestigeous title tho) and I could enjoy the dumb fun of climbing around or whatever, but even if you enjoy it objectively speaking the idea is pretty stupid. Like BoB having velociraptor be able to climb and glide around. It's amusing and probably neat, but sure is dumb. When I complain about the designs I'm usually talking about atrocities like the anky, acro, alberto, megalania, spino, ect. Which are far more common. A lot of the design choices with the herrera are just reflections of their day one appearance. The colors are made to resmeble the original bright green default skin, and the dewlap was always animated and extended in its calls, the only difference is that it's a part of the design now. That said I prefered it when it was more of a sack in its neck rather than a full dewlap. It looks kinda obnoxious when its full iguana/anole territory tbh. *Both playables do all of this while still being recognisable as a Beipiaosaurus and a Herrerasaurus, the creative liberties the devs took when designing them help to make these playables more unique and interesting. Once each gets added to the game, they will feel fun and engaging on account of how they differ from the other playables and how they differ from their real life counterparts.* Cope.
