Are The OKC Thunder Ready For This?

The Dallas Mavericks and the OKC Thunder are set to match up in the 2nd Round of the Western Conference Playoffs, matching Kyrie Irving and Luka Doncic up against MVP hopeful Shai Gilgeous- Alexander and Jalen Williams. Dallas and OKC's elite two way play brought them thus far, with Dallas limiting the Clippers' offense in Round 1 while the Thunder were able to do the same with the Zion-less Pelicans in Round 1. The matchups will be very interesting, especially with the Thunder trying to contain the more experienced Kyrie and Luka duo for a seven game series.
The dynamic is interesting but simple. One team is trying to prove that they are more than just an up and coming young group on a momentary hot streak while the other is looking to capitalize on having one of the most intriguing backcourts in NBA history.

Who guards SGA, J-Dub and Chet out on the perimeter? OKC has dogs on the defense. J-Dub can bother Kyrie and so can Wallace 🤷🏾‍♂️

Brother when you are in the majority of public opinion and saying the same things that everyone else is saying, you’re usually wrong. Mfs been saying the Thunder are “too young and too small” all season. Such a lazy take.

You are not accounting for the fact that OKC has better TEAM defense than Dallas and better TEAM 3 point shooting. Also better depth. The question is who is the better team, not who has the best 2 out of 3 offensive players.

You keep talking about "end of game". You do know that the Thunder are the best or second best 2nd half team this year and have the most 20 point comebacks right? And the best 4th quarter player all year has been J-Dub, which he highlighted last night. And what does the end game often come down to but free throws. Thunder are 4th best, Mavericks are 4th worst. The Thunder are the definition of clutch this season. Thunder in 6 if Luka gets healthy. But that doesn't look likely, so Dallas will be lucky to prevent the sweep.

aged like milk. Especially since the Mavs took last nights game at "the end of the game".

OKC is indeed outmatched. This series might be a pick & roll festival for Dallas and Gafford should be able to go right into Chet´s body a lot. That might wear Chet down so his offense could struggle. And then you have Lively who is the same height (7´1) with a slightly bigger frame. Chet will have his moments and might grab a few of Luka´s lobs but he will have to work a lot in that series. You could also run a small ball line-up with PJ at center and pull Chet out. As you mentioned OKC doesn´t have another point of attack defender than Dort and Dallas has two elite guards so I expect defenders coming for help a lot and Dallas´ shooters will be open on 3. The Mavericks on the other hand have two 6´5 guards in Exum and Green who are very good on-ball defenders (for SGA) and if that doesn´t work out you could always put some length on SGA and let Jones Jr. or PJ guard him at times. Key for Dallas on offense will be the 3pt shooting of their roleplayers. Key on defense might be the production of Chet and his offense and I believe he will have his moments but he will not be able to maintain a constant offensive threat

Agreed. This series is going to come down to the ability of those other Mavericks to knock down shots since so many OKC defenders would be helping off of shooters. Expect them to throw some zone looks in there too

Dort and Wallace are both better on ball defenders than Exum and Green.

@@TexanByNature88 Game 2 went pretty much as I predicted. Chet´s production got limited by the Mavs defense and Dallas´ roleplayers made their shots. SGA & Luka will always get theirs and Kyrie turned into a 2-way-Steve Nash some how and he will have a balistic gm3.
