There's plenty of heels in the WWE, but the problem is there are not enough faces that people care about, so when the heels beat on them, they get cheered

On Bray Wyatt not being a good enough heel: he's in a feud with Cena. Cena could be feuding with Satan himself and Satan will get cheered like a babyface in the middle of the bible belt.

u gotta admit Bray Wyatt is bound for a face turn...he gets a huge reaction from the fans so to continue to try and make him a heel just doesn't seem right...in fact i think Bray has traits of the undertaker but we just gotta wait n see.

thats very true, but at the same time i feel like they're forcing it with trying to get the audience to sing along to that stupid ass whole world song...they need to stop that, and just let it happen organically

Randy Orton was a killer heel at one point. Just having a move like the Punt alone really helped that but also his brutal attacks on legends with the whole "Legend Killer" deal, some of the things he said in promos with his feuds with Eddie and even some of his off show antics really made him a great heel. He's severely watered down now though. Also on a TNA note, with the exception of last week which was just plain ?, Samuel Shaw has really been doing a good job with not only being a heel but with his character as a whole. I see a HUGE amount of potential in him and EC3.

Heels on the main roster: -AJ Lee - Played to the crowd more like a babyface, pipe bomb on Total Divas cast -Alberto Del Rio - only "heel" that wins by tap out (other than AJ), doesn't cheat or insult crowd anymore -Alicia Fox - Calls members of the crowd losers, goes crazy after matches -Bad News Barrett - Everything you said about him -Bo Dallas - Jury still out on him, he elicits boo's by doing babyface things as intended. -Bray Wyatt - Cult leader, regardless of cheers (which are intentional) he is still a cult leader. -Brock Lesnar - Everything you said about him -Cameron - Will turn heel tomorrow -Cesaro - Has Paul Heyman but that's about it, plays to the crowd as a face to often -Curtis Axel - Sometimes cheats, only way we know he's a heel is because he feuds with babyfaces -Damien Sandow - I guess he's still a heel -David Otunga - Same as Sandow -Erick Rowan - A member of a cult faction -Fandango - What heel qualities does he have besides dumping girlfriend on Twitter. -Heath Slater - If he's still a heel, I guess he might have turned face against Rusev a few weeks ago. -Jack Swagger - With Zeb Coulter, his bigot close minded manager -Kane - Ruthlessly attacked Daniel Bryan and attempted to kidnap Brie Bella. And he's a member of the Authority -Lana - Generic anti-American character, but she's good at it -Layla - Is she still with Fandango? -Luke Harper - Same as Erick Rowan -Paul Heyman - Everything you said about him -Randy Orton - Member of Authority. Cocky, arrogant and easy to hate -Rosa Mendes - Well last time she wrestled she was a heel -Rusev - Same as Lana -Ryback - Same as Curtis Axel -Seth Rollins - Member of Authority, betrayed faction members and apparent "brothers." -Stephanie McMahon-Helmsley - Talks down to the crowd, leader of the Authority -Summer Rae - She might be a babyface on the main roster but she's a heel on NXT. She attacked Bayley after a match with Charlotte. -Tamina - I guess she's still a heel -Titus O'Neil - Attacks people from behind, sore loser -Triple H - Same as Stephanie -Zeb Coulter - Bigot, close minded and insults crowd and babyfaces. Although I would like to see a face turn and him feud with Swagger against Rusev. 22 of the 31 listed do their jobs as heels, but four of them are non-wrestlers and appear with other wrestlers. One of them is only a heel in NXT

JBL wrote an article on the Layfield Report some time back to virtually the same effect. "How to be a bad guy in pro wrestling." I would encourage anyone who is at all interested in wrestling heels to take a look at it, as it is hugely insightful and also starts with a great anecdote about Fit Finley.

In the ruthless aggression era Triple H & Evolution, JBL, Brock Lesnar, Edge, and Chris Jericho were the best heels. As for this era thus far I can only say CM Punk, Batista, Randy Orton, HHH and possibly Cena (think about that)

To continue my last comment, here are NXT heels, only ones who make or will make regular WWE Network appearances will be mentioned: -Aiden English - Up until a couple of weeks ago would try, and succeed at getting heat. Recently has softened up his character by teaming with Simon Gotch -Bull Dempsey - Not enough character development yet but I think it's safe to say that he's a heel. -Charlotte - Still with BFFs, attacked Bayley after match, However she's seemed like a babyface after her match with Natalya. Will probably turn face soon. -CJ Parker - Just easy to hate, best natural heel in NXT right now -Corey Graves - Insulted and feuded with fan favorite Sami Zayn before getting injured again. -Marcus Louis - French character, I believe it's a WWE rule that all French characters must be heel. -Sasha Banks - Insults and feuds with fan-favorite divas -Simon Gotch - teams with English, other than that he's not much of a heel, tag team is called the Vaudvillans though, clever play on words. -Summer Rae - see last post -Sylvester Lefort - Same as Marcus Louis -Tyler Breeze- Didn't show many heel qualities until this past Thursday's episode of NXT. However, he says that the NXT Universe "deserves a champion who's gorgeous." If you ask me that sounds like a babyface statement, he's praising the crowd. Of the 11 I mentioned, 8 are true heels. Of those 8, 7 show real heel qualities

CM Punk when he is heel he goes all the way. And Bobby Roode when he was TNA Champion was really a top notch heel. And Orton at times when WWE wants to book him like one he can really get heat as a heel.

2004-now best Heels who actually got crowd Heat - Brock Lesnar, Evolution, Edge, JBL(I Fuckin HATED this guy as a child, good choice for a Champion tho), Chris Jericho(though me personally he was actually my favorite 08-10), Vince McMahon, Stephanie McMahon, Paul Heyman, Lita 2004-06, Trish Stratus 2004, Muhhamad Haasan, Davari, Great Khali in his 1st run.

Taker stated he wanted Lesnar to win and beat the streak in the past, in fact he's offered a few different guys the streak. We'll never know for sure, but I'm figuring he probably demanded the streak ended, as it was pretty clear this time that he can't go any further in the ring, it looked like he was taking a nap in the Lesnar match. As for wrestlers beating "guy's that built the company" that's always the case, Austin and Hogan beat the previous "big guys" before them... that's how you make new stars.

Calling this era the "reality era" is a joke, what's real about santino using the cobra or fucking Fandango? The true reality era was back in the 90s when guys like Konnan, Kevin Nash and Roddy Piper were cutting promos on each other that frequently blurred the lines between kayfabe and reality.

Without a doubt the best heel in 1999 - 2002 was HHH. Ted Dibiase was a great heel and looking back he was a very good wrestler and very under rated. Mr Perfect as a heel was brilliant. Earthquake another but I loved those guys and they will never be better than todays superstars. Jericho, edge and Barrett are or were great heels.

You may very well be right about the timing of Taker's Hip Replacement. That jumping Tombstone he gave HBK REALLY fucked him up and I don't think he's ever fully recovered from it. I remember watching the match and he could barely stand after it so that would have been the best time for Hip Replacement.

There are so few heels in the business now because no one is willing anymore to be the target of that much heat, and sadly, neither is the company. Muhammad Hassan was as close as I've seen in recent years, and the PC Police killed that character dead.
@spinemelter2000
@spinemelter2000 10 лет назад
Wrestling characters aren't consistent anymore. Whoever's a heel right now will probably turn face within a year. CM Punk did the unthinkable when he disrespected Paul Bearer. It may have been a risky storyline, but they could have at least used that push to solidify CM Punk as the most hated man in WWE for the next 5-10 years. Why would fans believe that he became a nice guy just a few months later? TNA did the same thing with Bully Ray. Despite what I think about his ability to draw or wrestle, his character was pure evil, and then he turned face again after a year -- exactly one year. He turned heel at Lockdown 2013 and then turned face at Lockdown 2014. The reason fans are able to love or hate certain wrestlers is when trigger emotions and get reactions. TNA spent only year putting heat on Bully Ray as the most hated person in the company only to turn him face. That just makes fans change the channel instead of getting emotionally invested in wrestling characters.
@arexyouxepicxenough
@arexyouxepicxenough 10 лет назад
I'm guessing the reason is the smarkish crowds. The people who were cheering Punk weren't marks so they weren't thinking "Oh, what an asshole" they were thinking "WOW that's some GREAT heel work!" The problem is that the wrestlers adjust with the fans. CM Punk no matter what when coming back was going to be cheered.

Randy Orton in 2004, JBL in mid 2004 to early 2005, Muhammed Hassan in 2005, Edge in 2006. Probably the last interesting true heels in WWE to me personally. Randy Orton has never been more over than he was in 2004. It's sad but true. "The Legend Killer" run was amazing; everyone hated Orton and wanted to see him get his ass kicked. He was the top heel in the company (Yes, to me, he was bigger than HHH, Kurt Angle & JBL) in 2004 & after he beat Benoit for the title at SummerSlam clean, Orton was in position to be the next big superstar heel. Then they turned him face and HHH beat him a month later on PPV for the belt...stupid. He's never recovered from that burial, imho. JBL was great. "The Cabinet" was one of the worst groups ever and he was pretty average in the ring but JBL could cut a promo and could work the crowd. Hassan did get cheap heat but let's be honest, there is no reason in the world why that gimmick shouldn't have fell flat on its ass and Hassan made it work to perfection. He was the most hated wrestler in 2005 to me and although he was stopped short due to horrible writing, he made such a huge impact on the company in such a short time. Hassan was believable, he was geniune and he DREW. That's why he got the Wrestlemania spot against Hogan & Michaels. That's why he was pushed to the moon. He could talk, he could work the crowd to hate him and he could draw. period. Same with Edge. Probably the last true successful heel in the company. The "Rated-R Superstar" concept was great & Edge got to talk more than he ever had before. He was easy to hate and from my perspective, John Cena's feud with Edge, not JBL, made him a bonafide superstar. Yes, Cena was already immensely popular but he and Edge had some really memorable matches and both men benefited long-term from their feud.

In my opinion I think the other reason why there ain't any true heels in wresting is simply because of the PG product. Nowadays its so watered down that the true heels can't even express any anger or rage what so ever. Back in the day heels were proper heels getting booed, screwing over the baby faces, being ass holes even swearing on tv towards the fans that was so great to see. Nowadays its like all the superstars are exactly the same you can't really tell who is a face and a heel. Because the product is PG there are kids in the crowd which means the spuerstars who are supposed to be heel can't do certain things because WWE are probably worried about what the parents might think. If it was me I would be like well heels and supposed to be heels and they do things so people can hate on them and what HHH needs to do is look at that aspect being that he was a heel himself for most of his career. HHH back in the day used to do some nasty things to the point where he used to recieve death threats thats how good of a heel he was and thats what WWE needs to bring back
@emightis
@emightis 10 лет назад
For all the talk about repetitive heels and no more originality, there is one thing I've never really seen as a heel. A mocking 'popped' heel. Let me explain: there are plenty of people that make fun of the fans or mock the fact they get behind people that aren't them. But I've never seen a heel that takes advantage of being a heel, the thing that is intriguing is that what he notes with BNB is how most heels are. When they start cheering for him and supporting him: he takes it and gets behind it. I've never seen somebody that insults the crowd when they start popping them, I mean BNB is pretty close, but he'll take advantage of pops sometimes. I want to see a heel that when you get a smarky crowd that starts chanting for them: makes fun of the crowd or starts insulting them until they stop. Like they start cheering for him and he's like: quit making fun of me, you're all jealous.

I remember hating the Jericho heel character of 08-10 cause I found it to be so boring and overrated. It got to where I myself didn't want to see that character on TV. But looking back now, I realized that it was the whole point behind that character. So that the fans wouldn't cheer for Jericho.

To go off of your saying of Jericho not wanting a T-shirt during his heel run, that's what made JBL's heel run in 2004 great. It never occurred to me that JBL never had a T-shirt until I read a Facebook status from him. JBL in 2004 was, without a doubt, was a DICK. I loved it.

Jericho was an even better heel in WCW. Look up any of his promos from 1998 when he was in the Cruiserweight division. He was one of the most selfish assholes I've ever seen. He was such a braggart that, in order to make fun of "The Man of 1000 Holds" Dean Malenko, he called himself "The Man of 1004 Holds" and proceeded to list them ALL during a TV promo. Raven when he was fighting DDP was also great.He was such a whiny hypocrite. He sneak attacked DDP when he was on MTV and, when DDP fought back, he got his own security force to protect him from what he called DDP's unprovoked attacks. THAT is a heel.

It's intriguing he mentions the Miz in this, because The Miz wasn't 'get off my TV', you tuned in to see the Miz lose, this is why I would argue he was a better heel. Jack Swagger is in the same boat: when he pisses you off: you still kind of tune in to see him lose a match or two. But the best heel in the last 10 years: JBL. Now if you're reading that going: JBL sucked or screw JBL or I hated JBL, think about what you're saying: you didn't find anything good about him, but most people enjoyed watching his work. Edge and Jericho were pretty close but they were better served as faces(especially Jericho), JBL is not somebody you would ever really see be a face, but you kind of wanted to see him 'fail' or 'lose', it was the JBL feud that got John Cena so hot(he's not anymore) but JBL was a really good heel if you think about it.

It’s a big problem when 1. the fans are constantly crying that everyone now NEEDS to win cleanly, including the heels, especially if they are supposedly the better workers, because they want the whole thing to look more and more like a real sporting event, and 2. they gravitate to horrible human beings period. I mean, they hate John Cena, biggest contributor to the Make A Wish foundation in history, while they love Stone Cold, who has assaulted women in real life on multiple occasions. I firmly believe that WWE could have Seth Rollins sexually assault Sasha Banks in the middle of the ring and the fans would cheer him doing it.

Before listening, I'll chime in. Right now there's no great heels. I don't know why they're deadset on either being cowards who get their ass kicked all the time instead of losing by a count out or DQ. Or if not, they're monsters like Rusev or Ryback, who then [will] job when meeting decent competition. Shit booking. There's hardly any heels who use dirty moves anymore. They are beaten far too often. What heels are known for beating the top dogs right now - Orton's the only one who springs to mind. And he's a shit heel, or has been for at least several years. I think Edge and Jericho were the last great heels for the WWE and that was at least four years ago.
@arexyouxepicxenough

1Paraj That Orton was brilliant. There were a few good heels around at that time. Punk was getting booed out of buildings and in a year with S.E.S would have an old lady at a house show jump across the rail slapping while yelling "you're not Christ your'e the devil!" Getting mountains of heat.... pity they went with Miz's X pac heat, heel for the Mania match. Jericho was hated by EVERYBODY in the building after and during the Shawn rivalry. He was a perfect mix of heel with his belittling of the fans (wouldn't even humour kids asking for his autograph) was cold and calculated, broke every rule he could and just an all round prick. Edge was Smackdown's resident heel cheating to beat everyone, giving no one credit, would run but not because he was afraid but because of advantage. Would sink to every sort of low including hoping into bed with his higher ups to get what he wanted. Edge was a very manipulative heel that got heat easily. Orton as a heel is really hard to describe though, he was terrifying. When he'd punt people at random, ddt'd steph then kissed her while Trips clawed at him ect. it was just constant. The guy was absolute pure evil. Comparing his beat down of Cena's dad this year where he hit him once before running away from Cena cowardly to when he was beating the shit out of Cena then dragged his dad over the barricade mid beatdown then punted him right in front of Cena is no contest. Orton was an animal.
@CometVS
@CometVS 10 лет назад
Orton was okay, but lacked it in promos. His only menacing feature was sneak attacks. He did cowardly things like the punt and running away, fine, but Jericho, Edge, and I'll throw in Muhammad Hassan, all did things better through promos that were superior to what Orton had done.
@arexyouxepicxenough
@arexyouxepicxenough 10 лет назад
CometVS Orton's promos did sound bland but they still matched his character well but his character was booked strongly. That's what made him menacing. When McMahon was about to fire him so he punted him was viscous. Right down to the way he wrestled and moved everything about his character was perfect. A cold, calculated, merciless, sadistic predator. He sold it perfectly. Edge and Jericho were magic on the mic and with their segments but actions, in this case, speak just as loud if not louder than words for Randy. All just terrific heels. Muhammad Hassan, if he wasn't cut, would EASILY be the best heel in all of wrestling. The guy was getting MAJOR heat, the only problem was he was getting heat backstage for "not paying dues" apparently.

arexyouxepicxenough YES man. I really didn't mean to undermine jericho or edge cause they truly exemplified heels. But yea what you said. Orton was just pure evil. Then they had the angle o with the I.E.D which he used to keep him in the company, prevent from being sued, fired, and also being able to stay there and give the mchmahons and every one else hell, whilst going to the royal rumble, winning it, then moving on to headline wrestlemania; then reveals at the end for months he never had I.E.D, he knew exactly what he was doing the whole damn time. Punting everybody, putting vince and shane in the hospital, abusing his clause by threatening to sue the company, and file an injunction to close wresltemania, rko, ddt stephanie, hand cuff hhh and have him watch Orton Kiss his wife in front of millions, then end him with a sledge hammer hit. That man was pure fucking evil. Nobody and I mean NOBODY has ever done anything close to that in wwe history. Hands down, top ten best heel, and hands down, top ten best fued/ storyline.

@TheNerdMan2
@TheNerdMan2 10 лет назад
Noah Kunz Cool its good that you tell the truth mate. Alot of younger people I know, just didn´t get to see Angle when he was at his best. Truth be told all 3 are very good heels, but for my money there are not many who can touch Angle. he´s in Rock. Stone Cold terriritory when it comes to how good it is. So it kind of depends what you mean. When I say better heel I mean more entertaining and I´m talking about a very specific time which you were born a year after :) Check out Angle from 2000. If you go back to the Raws from then, he was at his best as heel, 2001 was really good with Stone Cold as well, but after about 2003 he really started just being known more for being a bad ass wrestler, even though he was still funny. The problem as well is HHH is seriously jealous of Angle, so WWE properganda about that whole period of time, tends to ignore Angles contribution, when infact he was a way way bigger name than Edge or Jericho. Only in bizzaro HHH, WWE land is Edge even considered on Angle or Jericho´s level. Don´t get me wrong they were good, and I appreciate why you think this, and I´m not even saying you´re wrong, but for Angle to get over the way he did and be so entertaining. then back it up in the ring all while The Rock and Stone Cold were dominating the scene was a mighty impressive feet. Every week he kept getting better and better and for my money even eclipsedThe Rock in how funny he was for and yeah he drew alot of heat. But I guess in a way you´re right, because it was kind of the heat you get where people like you cause you´re so funny. Jericho is wittier than Angle, but Angle is way funnier as comedic chicken shit heel and provided more laughs and memorable moments for me than Jericho. As for Edge, sorry he is not in Jericho/Angles league. He could never have got over the way Jericho and Angle did, even while the big Mammoth giants of wresting were in the company i.e. The Rock and SCSA. His time to shine came at the expense of John Cena who has zero charisma and is really its alot easier to make yourself look like a million bux compared to John Cena. In Angles feuds with John Cena, Angle came off smelling like roses as well. The 3 guys where talking about have just so much more charisma and ability compared to John Cena its a joke. So thats how I feel. Have you seen the raws from 2000-2001. I think even if you don´t change your mind on your favorites, you´ll gain a new respect for how good Angle was as a pure entertainer.

RealDealSoulja Dude I couldn't agree with you anymore, ya know a lot of people say that his whole thuganomics gimmick was awful, but in my opinion the gimmick wasn't as annoying and over done like the current one he's been doing for the last ten year with this whole, never give up shit...Cena was always terrible in my opinion..but I'd rather of seen the thuganomics character every week rather than this annoying one that's about 25 years too old, and with them turning him heel, he'd still be awful and corny, i think its just who he is...but at least it would be different, it really is time for a change, because i think even the little kiddies are losing interest in cena..and if they aren't now, it's only a matter of time before they grow up and realize who goony cena is..but dude i can't agree with what u said anymore.
@belowpip420
@belowpip420 10 лет назад
and let me just say that no asshole Cena fan needs to write, and point out that he sells tons of merchandise and that's why they don't turn him heel, i get it, but i also realize that even though Hogan was getting booed, and also very stale in the mid 90's....he still sold tons and tons of merchandise for WCW at the time, but guess what, they realized it was time for a change..and they turned him heel, and Hogan's character got pretty damn interesting again..so if Cena selling merchandise is there main reason....that's pretty damn stupid to me, and i think the risk would be worth the reward if they actually turned cena heel...but imo the better late than never saying doesn't fit the situation, i think if they wait too long to turn him heel, it will be a point where literally no one even gives a shit.
@RealDealSoulja

Kyle P Yupp, completely agree with you... but I guess Vince is too stingy to turn their most "valuable" wrestler heel right now. I don't know man, but Cena needs to do something with his character asap, if not most of us are going to keep fast forwarding through his matches unless their against someone I care about like Bray, Punk, Bryan, Cesaro, Barrett or the Shield

Of course Brock is invincible, he's a genetic freak. But I just don't like the guy. Doesn't anybody get tired of seeing him always win. Maybe it's unrealistic for him to lose, but in 2016 nobody believes wrestling is real anymore, so why does realism even matter? But that's probably why the UFC is so popular and why I think Brock is better fit for UFC than WWE.

Lalos, you just proved that you don't know shit about Brock. 1- have you ever seen his matches before his return? He has more moves and was faster, but creative wants him to be an mma monster and he can not do anything about that. 2- He left UFC because he had just gone through an operation that made his belly more weak which difficulted his performance in UFC. 3- Undertaker himself already said that he was the one to choose Brock to break the streak, so blame him, not Brock.

+stormproductions67 yes i rember brock before he left and thats when like i said he actually put an effort into his matches wich he doesnt do anymore u can blame creative n sure they play a part in that but if brock actually wanted to put an effort in im sure he could do more if he wanted but instead its just suplex suplex suplex F5 n thats it its boring n brock n all his fans like can blame the operation for him leaving ufc but i feel like thats just an excuse n a copout plenty of other guys come back in mma after injuries and/or surgeries but he got his ass kicked n left i doubt that it was just a coincidence lastly i havent heard that undertaker ok'd brock breaking the streak but if thats true im a more ok with it but i still dont think he deserved it maybe its because taker is my favorite of all time n i dont like brock at all but i just feel like 1 the streak shouldnt have even been broken in the first place i think taker deserved that huge accomplishment of being undefeated at WM but if it was his choice i can respect that but that brings me to point #2 i think they coulda found somebody more deserving of that honor they coulda used it to really elevate someone like bray wyatt i dont think a part timer like brock really deserved it in the end like i said i just really dont like brock n that probably wont ever change
