As a general contractor I have been using this impact for a year and I tend to prefer the 2.0ah and 3.0ah (cylinder batteries). They have good power to get most tasks done and still keeps the tool compact. When you stick a 4.0 or 6.0 battery in it, the tool becomes almost the same size as the M18. In my opinion that takes away the propose of owning / using the M12. The whole point of this tool is so you can get into smaller spaces, easy to carry etc etc.

Same with me ! have several 3.0 cylindrical style batteries for the compactness of the impact it’s a cute little monster!

True but for recip/ or long usage need those bigger batteries smaller ones wi start slowing down when low

Agreed. For the M12 impact, a 2.0 is fine for many tasks. Fits in my tool belt nicely. For the Hackzall or oscillating tool, a 6.0 is a must. Normally, for fastening, my M18 Fuel Gen3 impact with a HO 3.0 is more than enough, and sometimes too much. That M12 impact punches above its weight class 9/10.

I had an apple tree snap in half during a storm. So afraid the other apple tree would do the same, I bought a 17-1/2" long 3/4" diameter Diablo wood boring bit and used it in conjunction with my m12 fuel hammer drill on low. I had to actually drill 24" through the tree to add the threaded rod that I then puts nuts on both sides. That little drill didn't like it, but it got the job done! I stopped occasionally to let the heat dissipate so I wouldn't melt the drill. I never had it smoking like in this video, but it was hot to handle. I love my m12 tools.

Awesome video! The M12 line comes in very handy sometimes. Bought a Chinese M12 9ah just to see what was up with it. It looks weird for sure. Hope everyone over there is doing well. 🙂

The 4 inch lag the 3 ah did better than the 4 ah and the 6 ah. Has to be from the motor getting overheated as well as there could have been a knot in the wood.

the compact 3ah batteries are the sweet spot for the m12 lineup. They have a good amount of capacity and put down 90% of the power a 6ah battery delivers. All while still being lighter and more compact. Only reason I still keep around 1.5 and 2ah batteries is for lower power devices like lasers, lights ect

I just picked up an 9 amp hour Ryobi 18 volt Battery from the most recent Direct Tools Outlet sale. I can't wait to strap that onto my 1/2 inch impact and give bolts even more ugga duggas. It's gonna be pretty sweet to see the results from more power🤙🤙

Was framing out for shed windows and was going to use my 2ah battery and i could tell big time the difference of 2 and 4ah when driving 3" deck screws. The 4ah drove it almost twice as fast

I have the M12 Surge (got it this holiday) and the M12 Fuel Brushless Drill. I like them. Even though there are 2, they are so much more compact than my old brushed 18V set.

This review is almost perfect. Almost. If you can do this with 3amp with one and two rows of cells it would be awesome! I do a lot of precise drilling. My 6amp battery is a monster, but I prefer work with my 2amps, much more comfortable weight. Got a feeling that 3amp guys would be perfect for my job.

I use the 6.0 Ah with the M12 Hacksaw. It just keeps cutting. I'm amazed how many cuts of 3-6" firewood I get. For the bigger stuff that I need splitting I get out the bigger saws, but any log you can 'palm' I use the hacksaw, which is doing the lion's share of the cuts.

You confirmed what I already thought in my head.... I have a few 6's and all my tools feel like totally different tools using those. I like the compact batteries but its good to them on hand for when you do. (Big difference in Saws also.)

I have the Surge. It lives in my tool backpack. It’s amazing what that little guy will do. Have the gen 3 M18 fuel too. I like the M12 much better. Slower but less abusive.

I purchased some knock-off 3.0ah cylinder style batteries off Amazon. I still think the factory 2.0's are better, but I got 2 of them for $29, and for backup purposes in a pinch I can't complain at that price. All 1.5ah are a complete waste of time and money. I have a 6.0ah for my M12 Fuel oscillating multi tool, because that thing is a battery pig, but when I throw the 6.0 on my impact it will beat my Dewalt Atomic DCF850 😆

If you want to test a Milwaukee tool where the battery truly matters use the M12 Fuel straight line die grinder. It will not work at all with the 1.5, 2.0 and even the new compact 3.0. It just shuts down under any load. With the bigger 3.0, 4.0 and 6.0 it's a dream.

If you can please get the single stack 3ah. That’s the one I really wanted to know about. It can’t possibly be as powerful as the double stack 3ah even tho the cells are stronger there is still only 3 cells taking that load. I love the compactness of the single batteries but the power difference is worlds apart.

The bigger Amp hour batteries really only benefit for cutting and sanding tools where long runs without pause are needed. Drilling, and tightening benefit from.the small form.factor of cylinder batteries sort of the point of having the m12..something g small compact light, access tight areas

Picked up a $30 Amazon 9Ah waitley for my m12 3/8 stubby and I've been testing it for fun against my 6.0's gotta say it actually seems to hit harder. I often switch it out to see if it'll remove a fastener the 6.0 can't and it hasn't let me down. If your hard up for cash it's a great alternative the only con it doesn't have any drop protection so I Gorilla glued on a thin layer of neoprene rubber around Side/Base and other than that a budget friendly alternative to the 6.0👍

@@garrett3108 I've had it almost a year it was a curiosity buy LOL. So far no issues it's the only Chepo battery I have I run the genuine 3.0 torpedo or 6.0's. It's been mainly relegated to my work/camp area light since it outlast all the other batteries I have and surprisingly worked pretty good during this past cold winter nights. It's the only chepo battery with an OK rep and the power is there if your strapped for cash 👍🏼

I usually use 2ah with mine because 1: its compact and thats the point of the 12v to begin with, 2: I dont have a 3ah without the foot and dont think its worth buying when i already have the 2ah aaaand 3: i mostly use it for smaller stuff and go for 18v for bigger things anyway

mine are 4ah batteries do good. i guess bigger batteries handle more stress on current better than smaller batteries i guess it's amperage maybe.

In this thread: people who don't even have a basic understanding of electrical power and battery chemistry. The reason the larger capacity batteries seem to "hit harder" (as you bumpkins say), is because, in addition to having more cells (or in some cases higher capacity cells) in parallel (to increase the state mAh rating), Milwaukee goes with cells that have a higher 'C-rating', also known as maximum discharge rating. This allows the tool to draw more current in the larger packs. In some cases, Milwaukee also switches from 18650 to 21700 (for their M18 packs).

Torque test channel has already done these torque tests. The smaller batteries are the same output while the 4.0 and 6.0 are about the same. That’s the results. You’re welcome

I watch TTC all the time. I respect their scientific results on their dyno, but I'm out there on jobsites and I can tell you from field experience that there is a difference.

I would like to see the small 3.0 and the double 3.0. (The small 3.0 is missing here) thats a way to really see if the parallel ones have any advantage. (6 batteries, 3 in series, 2 sets in parallel 1500 mah each)… the small one is 3 batteries in series 3000 mah.

There will be a big difference. They might have the same Ah but the XC battery has twice the number of cells.

@@jps101574 while, not thinking about it much, that might be true. Depending how and what your declaring. A cp 3.0 VS a xc6.0, yes depending on total power required by tool, ie if battery is a bottle neck. I wanted to know how the cp3.0 fits against cp 1.5/2.0/xc3.0. Not sure how a xc3.0 will offer significant improvement over a cp3.0, more cells, but worse cells. I only buy cp3.0 and xc 6.0 as that best case per size. If I want slim in my tool, I'd rather not change it twice as often using a 1.5. And if I need a big battery, I don't want the same runtime as running a slim battery. Same thing goes for running m18 1.5 or even 2.0 VS a 3ho. Or running a huge 3.0 instead of a 5. Added size and weight, for no gains.

on paper the m12 xc 4ah should be the most power full battery and it should be slightly more powerfull than the m12 xc 6.0ah battery The xc 6.0 has 6s2p samsung 18650 30q cells which are rated at 15amps of discharge power since there are 2 sets that makes the m12 6,0 battery have 30 amps of discharge power. The m12 4ah battery has samsung 18650 20r cells which are ated at 20 amps of discharge power also 2 sets of cells so that makes the 4ah m12 batter have 40amps of discharge power. same goes for the m18 high output 6.0ah vs the 8.0ah battery. the m18 6.0ah will have more power than the 8.0ah battery. but these are 21700 30t vs 21700 40t cells.

Definitely a huge power difference between battery sizes. Using the M12 Fuel stubby 1/2” friction ring, there was noticeable differences between using the CP 2.0 and XC 4.0. Although it would be very nice to see the difference between the CP 3.0 and XC 3.0 M12 batteries, if any. Great video as always!

In the first test there is no way a 1.5 ah and 2 ah have an over 1 minute difference you should have redone the 1.5 ah you've done it before

Whoever says there’s no difference between batteries, doesn’t understand how electric motors and current works. If there was no difference between the batteries, all electrical theory would be wrong and science would have made a severe mistake in its understanding of physics.
