Trickstuff speaking: There are two reasons for the different feel of the Shiguras: 1. Magura calipers have 22 mm big pistons, whereas the Ultegras have 21 mm. This results in a more powerful hydraulic ratio of the brake system, which expands the caliper more. (Both the Shimano and Magura calipers are well designed and very stiff). But the higher ratio results in a more elastic feel. 2. Magura hoses are good, Shimano hoses are very good. Therefor the Magura hoses expand wider under high pressure, which also results in a more elastic lever feel. My personal opinion: Please undo those horrible, cheap looking colored rings in the Magura calipers. These calipers look great WITHOUT those rings...

Did this on my gravel bike with grx levers and hope rx4+ calipers, which are even flashier, have more stopping power and meant to be on a road bike from the manufacturer. Only downside is that they have noticeably less clearance from the Shimano rotors than the 9200 calipers I eventually replaced them with

His mechanic said it used to take him 4 f hours to build a bike. 🤦‍♂️ I said this on Froom’s bike when he was shitting on disc brakes. the reason he hates disc brakes is because his mechanic refuses to learn how to work on disc brakes… I don’t blame him, how f hard is to set up a rim brake bike. I can set up a full build including servicing every bearing on a rim brake less than 90 minutes. As far as these magura brakes I am really really curious how you feel about them after you ride a little. Personally I think less than 180mm it’s completely pointless to have these brakes. I just worry that you don’t have any downhills, so your review might be unrealistic. Still this is awesome content.
@GCPerformance18
@GCPerformance18 Год назад
lmao I understand the mechanic but working on these all day they should get a rhythm of things, but also man I dont get this and why people say this.... but a 140mm hydraulic disc positioned at the center of a wheel hub is going to have way better stopping power then a rim brake any day out the year 10/10 times, I never got that when people are like im scared im not gonna have enough brake power going down my hills I live around..... like literally 10 years ago people were bombing those hills with carbon brake pads on rim brakes with a simple cable...... a 140mm hydraulic disc will have way more stopping power then a rim brake prove me wrong

@@GCPerformance18 don’t think like that…. rim brake tech was what we had, that’s what we used, that’s what we perfected. Personally direct mount rim brakes are good enough but who cares what I think. The point with disc brakes is that I can give a disc brake bike to any new rider and they will feel way more confident on any downhill with disc brakes. I do want to remind you that living in Florida you guys are completely spoiled with those flats. Tell me this how can my 240 pound “dentist”customer take a selfie with one hand with golden gate in the background or Alcatraz going down hawk hill at min 8% or in same cases 20% in SF with rim brakes… no way!!! 😜 here is a quick story for you; I had to pick up my friend going down famous Mount Diablo in Northern California on his just purchased super six 2013 women’s edition rim brake( I love that bike), as I was driving down he said everyone that is going down safe had a disc bike, I must buy a disc brake bike, just as he said that a guy with sl6 rim brake passed us as if we were stoped… his repose was just watch he will die…. lol my friend rides for about 2 years he had made make 200miles total.

I can confirm that these calipers also work on Campagnolo groups. In fact, I got the original Chorus calipers too and the pistons in the Chorus caliper are absolutely identical with the Maguras. They even have the same magnetic pad retention as the Maguras and you can use Magura pads. Makes sense, since Magura supplied parts for Campy's 1st Gen disc brakes. I paired these calipers with Campy Ekar gravel brifters and it works fine. Super powerful. All you need is an adapter, since these calipers have banjo fittings. I used Magura Royal Blood fluid. No issues.

I had a little trouble getting this delivered ru-vid.comUgkxn_jUDSlprMIeubd9rHdEAnv59nKfjcKv and eventually had to pick it up from local UPS location, but customer service was really nice and helped me get it before the estimated delivery date. They even gave me a partial refund for my trouble. Thanks Paige! The actual bicycle is just as advertised, and had no damage or scratches. This is an excellent commuter bike for most people. I did a few modifications to make it even better for me personally. I added fenders from my old bicycle. They weren't for disc brakes, but after adding longer bolts and about an inch of spacers the supports no longer interfered with the brakes. I like to pedal HARD and go FAST, so I switched the chain rings to Vuelta Corsa Pro Crankset, Black, 175mm 53/39T Square Taper. This has longer crank arms too, so its kind of 2 upgrades in 1. The front derailleur had to be readjusted so it would stay on only the 2 chain rings until I get a different shifter. I also switched the cassette to one with 11T high gear and a larger low gear. With larger gears on the front and back I also had to get a longer chain. I probably couldn't race this bike unless i got a different cassette with gears closer in size relative to each other, but I can still go plenty fast on flats and downhill while still being able to climb steep hills. For going to and from work and the grocery store this is a great bike. It even looks good. I also added a rear rack and panniers for grocery trips. Now it has great storage capacity especially paired with a backpack. Very happy with my purchase.

Question: I've installed several Shimano hydro hoses with new barb/olive myself and i've never pre-installed the olive and tightened up the nut and THEN put the hose in... I've always slid the nut up the hose, slid the olive on, then pushed the hose in and tightened... Any advantages to your way? Cheers
@GCPerformance18

it jsut holds the olive in place so you odnt have to worry about it clamping the olive in the wrong spot if you dont have the cable pushed in all the way, just easier for me, its similar method to sram where the olive is like threaded on to the end of the line

Take it for ride over a proper distance and review it when the pads are properly bedded in. I'm curious how this would work on a steep decent . I'm wondering how it would feel on 2 different rides on the same route. 1 ride with a shimano mineral oil bleed and then with a royal blood bleed on the brakes
@GCPerformance18
@GCPerformance18 Год назад
wont change anything, just different color mineral oil, finish line makes a green mineral oil, royal blood is blue, and honestly right now those brake lines are filled with royal blood and my shifter levers are filled with red shimano mineral oil
@danielfarrell5750
@danielfarrell5750 Год назад
I'm not doubting they are both mineral oil. What I would be keen to see would be the difference between the performance of both. Shimano are not very forthcoming about the complete technical specification of their mineral oil. I believe from what I have read that both royal blood and shimano mineral oil don't share the same boiling point. Are they the same weight and viscosity? I'm wondering if some of the feel at the lever is partially down to the type of mineral oil used.

GC lives in Florida where I live. Disc brakes are like tits on a bull. There is no descending. I built a 40 mph Specialized Aluminum Allez road bike with 1700 watt mid drive motor with Ultegra Rim brakes. Can lock both wheels up. Great modulation. Maybe a benefit of disc brakes in the Alps. Not in Florida. An entertaining video however and informative how to install new disc calipers on a SL7. If I owned and I do own a disc brake bike and the brakes didn't rub? I would NEVER change the brakes. Any decent cyclist can adjust to brake modulation...same with a good motorcycle rider or race car driver at the track.

No thanks, Disc Brakes can add an entire KG of weight extra to a bike, they are incredibly complex, difficult to service and serves no real purpose on roadbikes with the exception of wet weather and even then you shouldn't be going fast on wet roads either. Rotor rub, loud squeak and piston malfunction on disc brake calipers will make you regret ever going with disc brakes. As a person who services my own bike and refuse to be scammed by the many LBS I will never again purchase another roadbike with discbrakes. Will continue to stick with my ultra light super six evo hi mod Cannondale till I die.

The caliper's construction can make a difference. Two-piece calipers flex more than one-piece units. I once pulled a brake lever hooked to a fully bled Ultegra BR-R8070 (bleed block still installed) hard and I can feel the caliper trying to spread itself open. I haven't gotten the chance to try the same thing with one-piece calipers yet.

@@GCPerformance18 Rim brakes are safer than hydraulic. If the hydraulics fail you have no way to stop except crash. I honestly don't trust the Industry and their shabby quality controls to make such a critical component of the bike. I would be interested in seeing just how many brakes actually do fail. When carbon first started being used we never heard about the failings of it but it's all over the internet now and many carbon repair companies have started up. I just wonder about this and are they really safe for the common consumer versus rim brake. I'm glad you put this video out because I used to be one of those guys that would try this but since the pandemic I have curbed my spending habits on bikes.
