the soldiers who were left behind have to feel abandoned. Not only are they facing a pissed off russia but they are doing it with fewer men and equipment and the equipment that they have left is just the leftover lower quality stuff. The temporary moral boost that they got from their attack into russian territory long gone and replaced with dread.

As German statesman Bismarck said, the fury of the Russians is a slow but terrible thing, and once roused, nothing will save you, the debt will be paid, and the wrong will be avenged. Keep in mind this was a man who was a statesman and military leader, in the finest tradition of a powerful militarist country that had basically been fighting Russia on and off for 500 years and whose survival depended upon as he put it a good relationship with the Russians.

@@Mortablunt Thats how this war seems to have been going. When it started the Russian military seemed really disorganized, really inefficient and frankly made a lot of amateur mistakes. However as time goes on they have improved. I think if western propaganda was not so good this war would have ended a long time ago. But sadly we have reporters who spawn russian shovel memes telling western viewers how the ukrainians are winning while ignoring reality .

​@@Levon_RnD In WW1 brits was fighting and shelling german trenches for a few days and british, under command of marshall Haig, thought it was enough to capture them, but Germans turns out, was really good at fortification. So Haig orderd his man to charge the Germans thinking there will be no resistance, brits was going shoulder to shloder. And when Germans saw the praid coming their way, they made it go away. Brits took over 60000 casualties in 1 day.

He thought that german trenches is gonna be like british one and there would be nothing left by the time he was done. We know now that germans was really good at fortifying their positions. The British took nearly 60000 casualties in a day.
