Pals I know there are spoilers in the video but if you don't mark your comments with spoilers I will delete them for the sake of people doing readalongs. Nothing against you personally just not wanting to ruin other people's day :)

(No spoilers) :) I'm so excited to reread the Abercrombie books. 'Watching a car crash in slow motion' is an excellent description haha! Currently I'm listening to The Wisdom of Crowds audiobook, but I'm enjoying your descriptions of the two books prior. The characters, jealousy, their young-ness is such a good point. They have a scary amount of power.

Savine didn’t just “become good now because she had babies.” Look at everything that’s happened to her. She has most of the blame for the disaster at the end of the Trouble with Peace. Thousands and thousands of people dead, her husband crippled and nearly died, based on her direct influence and manipulation from wanting to be the Queen. And she knows that and was sobbing and repentant at the end of TTWP before she had her babies. I’m not sure how you can just ignore war, battle, and death and only focus on and say a couple of babies completely changed her character, then complain about it.

While I don't love the tone of your comment I do think it's interesting in highlighting the difference between the things we fixate on while reading a book versus what you can see when you're at the end of it looking back? The difference between an in the moment reading vlog and a more scripted review are numerous and maybe making a review video would be something I could do if I had the time or inclination. In the meantime I'll summarise some of my thoughts here: I agree with you that a lot more happens and looking back over the series as a whole knowing how things do end I wouldn't actually say 'she's become good now' (which I was saying with a pinch of salt anyway) and instead say 'her motivations shifted'. (potential spoilers here for those reading this comment who haven't read the wisdom of crowds) In addition, you could very well argue that 'I had children and now I'm giving everything away and being good' is the very image that Savine wants to project in order to keep her and her family safe after the events of part VII. There is an element of 'what narrative do I have to spin to stay alive here' which not only fits in with what we've seen of Savine's character in book one (the creation of 'the darling of the slums') but also plays into the trope I was criticising in the video of 'motherhood has changed me'. Again -that's Joe Abercrombie being smart and playing with the very idea of storybook heroes and heroines and propaganda and so such. Things I appreciate now having had the time to process the work as a whole - but didn't have the scope to see when I hadn't actually finished the book. I didn't have time in this video to get into how interesting I found it that the series continually goes back to the meetings of the solar society, and how you can see how Savine's role in society and her perception of herself and the world around changes as each meting takes place - I found that a really interesting narrative device in the last book in particular. Not only in showing how the world has changed but how Savine's status shifts - but she's still important enough to get a 'shout out' at the start of the meetings. Honestly I could talk at length about Savine as a character that could be it's own video but I think I would end up with bunch of 'um actually' comments and I have a job and a life to get to :)

You could call it self deceiving but she saw it as having no choice, it was already in motion. Pulling back would place Leo in trouble, assuming she could stop it.
