What if i have a well decorated room but my ceiling is like 12 ft big ? Im a little scared now
@undercoversteve
@undercoversteve 9 дней назад
I don't think the height of your ceiling really matters too much, it's just if there's enough variation of stuff for the trackers to place "markers" onto. A blank ceiling is *probably* fine, since it relies on tracking to your walls mostly in my experience.

Does it work on stand alone vr headsets?

Every tracker has its own issues, just have to choose which one you find least annoying. I didn't want to deal with base station clunk, cost, and the worry of one more thing I might kick into oblivion. I might have gone with slimes had it not been for their drift, and their ridiculous shipping issues at the time. I've been pretty happy with these ones as their requirement for light and a visually distinct playspace seemed most manageable to me. Only had issues losing tracking when obscuring the cameras on the tracker. And sometimes they would take too long to regain tracking, though I haven't experienced that in a while so it might have been fixed in an update(?). I am still considering trying slimes just because obstruction won't be an issue, or maybe it might even be fun to mix a set of slimes together with these ones. Though I'm probably just going to wait for something better to come along before I waste more money, and in the mean time I think these definitely have a valid place on the market.

Yeah, it is a pain when it loses tracking, having to wait for it to sync back up. I definitely did notice that sometimes when I sit down, the cameras would get obscured, causing that whole issue. Ideally there would be a solution that would be base station less, not cost so much money, and not have drift. Aren't quite there yet, I suppose :(

owner of these, bad idea! ultra janky set up that's heavily reliant on your room having perfect studio lighting (i mean this btw) and contrasting wallpapered walls (had to deck out my bedroom with ArUco markers printed on A4 paper to get these to track in the first place, no LIDAR or anything fancy here! just crappy cameras) pcvr software which is buggy and unfinished (STILL IN BETA :/) that has you inaccurately scan your room from only the middle of your playspace (thought you could just turn these on and have them learn your surroundings? NOPE!) after consistently getting bad maps, i asked on the discord and was told by a mod to (after the room scan, before clicking save map) walk around and point the trackers from various angles at various parts of my room, in hope of it bettering the map (WHICH IT DID! ...but there is zero indication you are allowed to do this, nor does it actually correct your map grade, you're just supposed to FEEL that it helped during gameplay 🤦) on the subject of the discord, viveverse is filled with confused and or angry people that (like me) couldn't be bothered to wait for slimes nor afford real vive trackers and are now regrettably stuck with these paper weights... seriously, do not buy this e-waste "tracking device" as it has already made obsolete by the existence of much better tracking methods (slimes & other imu derivatives, previous vive trackers & friends, etc.) ...oh and don't even get me started on the scaling issue - if you're planning on pairing these with an oculus headset, GOOD LUCK LOL

Scaling issue? I use an Oculus Quest 3 with these and it works okay for me. My lighting is an LED strip, a lamp, and my ceiling lights. After a finnicky setup I got them to work fairly reliably, as long as you don't cover the cameras. I'm not selling out here, they really do work for me lol. There's such a mixed response to these that has me worried about my own purchase. But it works for me, so, eh?

@@undercoversteve yea the further you go from the center of your play-space the more offset the trackers become from reality due to scaling inconsistencies with non htc headsets, i for one have a big room so this is easily noticeable i’m not accusing you of anything, but majority of the people who used these and are satisfied either have mastered/overcome the jank, or are in denial to justify their subpar purchase XD the massive red flag tho is how little updates these trackers have received, i mean the software still being in beta is criminal it’s clear htc does not care about this product in the slightest and has left it to die until further notice, i think it’s actually more likely they release a second iteration (ultimate 2) than ever finishing these :(

They're too temperamental and expensive to be any serious alternative to Vive 3.0 or Tundra. The only situation where it makes sense to get these over the latter is if you own a Vive XR Elite. And the XRE is an absolutely terrible headset no one wants. If you also want more than 3 points of tracking in future, this solution becomes significantly more expensive than if you just bought base stations and Tundras to start with. Ultimate trackers are a dead product on arrival.
@undercoversteve
@undercoversteve 27 дней назад
That's a fair take. However, in order to even use Vive 3.0s or Tundras, you need a lighthouse setup. ($150 dollars per base station * 2 = $300) and then the Vive 3.0 trackers would be 130 * 3 = 390, so add it all up and it would be $690 dollars. So if you own a Quest 3 like I do, or some other standalone headset, the Ultimates actually come out to be cheaper than getting a full Lighthouse setup. Now that part about getting more than 3 points of tracking is true, which is unfortunate. There is no way I am going to spend $400 dollars so I can see my elbows in VR, absolutely not.

@@undercoversteve What base stations also do that hasn't been mentioned is they give you more options and modularity. Index controllers, lighter and smaller trackers for increased mobility and seamless integration with other headsets if you upgrade to a base station-tracked headset further down the road (And there's are a lot of good ones). You're committing yourself to a proprietary and less reliable ecosystem that doesn't afford you any expandability outside of just buying more super expensive trackers with the Ultimate's. These trackers aren't very popular because VR enthusiasts are savvy to these flaws. $90 less isn't much cheaper for what is a false economy in the long term.

@@T00DEEPBLUE True. True. I personally do feel like the market is moving away from base station tracking and moving toward mostly inside-out tracking, but there are exceptions of that (Somnium VR1, Lighthouse edition of Pimax Crystal Light, etc etc). So, in the end, it's really down to what you prefer. You do make a convincing argument; there's definitely some more I could've gone over in my video.
@T00DEEPBLUE
@T00DEEPBLUE 26 дней назад
@@undercoversteve People have been saying that base stations are going obsolete since the Quest 2 came out. The Bigscreen Beyond is base station-tracked and that was released just last year and is excellent. Pimax are still making base station modules for all their newest headsets. Same with Varjo. New VR hardware like the UDCAP gloves from Udexreal are coming onto the market now and they're touted as the best hand tracking gloves the industry has ever seen, and their recommendation is to use base stations. Base stations are still considered the gold standard for high end VR. And with still loads of brand new products coming onto the market to natively support them, they're not going away any time soon.

@@undercoversteve Don't you have a quest 3? Why not just use the camera tracking for your elbows?
