Having a sense of humour is your ability to take a joke on yourself. It is not just making jokes or hard hitting satirical comments. And when one is roasted, one takes jokes on himself/herself, in some cases, if one's family can take a joke on themselves, then you can make joke's on one's family as well. Understand that. A political party or a religion or a god or your character or your family (be it big or small, wealthy or poor), is too big to be put down by a bunch of jokes. Comedians who are true to the art of comedy always satirise an establishment or a system. They never demean a repressed society of individuals. They never joke about people who are from a weaker socio-economic background. The oppressed mock the oppressor. There are a billion + people in India. There are currently 26.7 million active twitter accounts. 197 Million Facebook accounts. So, if you do not like a sarcastic remark or a tweet or a cartoon or a youtube video or a snap 60% of the people haven't even seen it. So, you don't have to lose your minds when a tweet or a blog is written that goes against your beliefs. So, accepting a sarcastic remark or a joke, even if it is against what you believe or how you feel or hitting hard on your insecurity- that is 'having a sense of humour'.

Filmmaking is about picking an abstract, social, historic, sci-fi, satire topic and making a good film out of it. It's not supposed to please everyone but should be able to communicate the message of the director/writer to the people watching it. Being a people pleasing director isn't going to make you a good filmmaker but just another Anu Malik or Pritam.
