The Biolizard was made to be the Ultimate Life form long before Shadow was made,so technically, we already have a Classic Shadow.

It'd be hilarious to find out SA2 Shadow is slightly shorter then modern Shadow and THAT'S the classic shadow. So basically slightly different personalities of the same person. Maybe they could get one of Shadow's other long-time VA's to do the "other" Shadow. Maybe David Humphrey so we could have Kirk and David in the same game. That mural isn't depicting Sonic with wings lmao. That's just his quills. Secondly this is a massive stretch since the mural CLEARLY depicts the hedgehog as blue.

I don't think they'll make a 'classic shadow' the second playable character. But I think it would be funny if the second character was Sir Lancelot from Sonic and the black night, and they'd have no reason to put him in or for why he's there, but he just is.

I can’t believe the joke line from the Twitter Takeover a few years ago about Doom’s Eye being alive is now canon! I have to admit, this game is looking to be quite promising. Maybe Classic Shadow was who he was before being infused with Black Doom’s blood. But that does kind of sound similar Surge and Kit’s origins. I still want the mystery character to be Silver. It can work since he somehow got brought into the White Space. Then again, his gameplay is very different from most of the cast. I love how you used Shadow’s cringe face at “one of the greatest embarrassments.”

Call me crazy, but it’s going to be Silver. Sonic, Shadow, and Silver are the 3 main Hedgehog characters of the series, and with Shadow not really HAVING a “classic” design, I can see Sega having the other character be Silver with hopefully his own campaign akin to Shadow’s

Fun idea i guess but like. What would that add to shadow's character? He's already all about his past. Adding a second layer of past to him would be kind of redundant. Especially considering that much of shadow's themes are intrinsically linked to the fact that he never got to live a normal life on earth. His confined, artificial, space colony life is a deliberate contrast against sonic's connection with nature and adventure. That is the backstory that informs shadow as a character. It's not just lore for the sake of lore.

Honestly it would be kind of cool if it was some sort of classic shadow going through some training on the ark. Kind of like the crash bandicoot 4 flashback tapes.

The second playable is 99.9% likely gonna be Movie Shadow. Takashi Lizuka has debunked the possibility of Classic Shadow due to the timeline. And no, Classic and Modern Sonic are no longer separate timelines because of the aftermath of Forces and Mania’s Encore campaign. Classic Shadow, is an impossible thing to do without screwing up Shadow’s origin.

It would be a boring inclusion to me if it were to be Classic Shadow. Not to rain on anyone who really wants this. To have it purely just for the sake of mimicking two Sonics even though it makes less sense for obvious reasons. We tend to expect more lore exploration behind everything when Sega likes to keep things simpler, and what’s established. But I really don’t care who it could be so long as it’s a more exciting surprise. I guess exciting is subjective.

Here's my take...we never see Omega in Sonic Generations, maybe it's him? Probably not but could you imagine. We can't talk about Shadow games without mentioning that time he shot everyone...so here's a character you can use to shoot everyone.

You know, that thing with you wanting Shadow's origins tweaked more makes me wonder how much of what you don't like is weird shit from the dubs/mistranslations? Like, Maria's Neuro-whatever is apparently from an old(bad)fan translation from the strategy guide that was just accepted by various English sources over the years. Technically, her condition was NATIVE immunodeficiency. Basically, just regular congenital immunodeficiency, not some weird sci-fi condition. I feel like Sega's official go-betweens for the Japanese and English sides don't know about this shit, so might be worth looking into.

It's Dreamcast shadow I like the idea of classic shadow but he'll need to be in a alternate timeline of the classic games Dreamcast shadow is more likely considering they are pulling and paying tribute to sa2 his debut game.

Since Generations deals with time travel, Shadow being in these post-Generations levels could be him being transported into the future. Just a thought on how they might justify that canonically

IIRC, Classic Shadow is non-canon. But part of me theorizes we might get Emerl as a fourth playable character. Or post-Frontiers Sonic. IDK. But I guess we'll find out when the news drops or when the game comes out.

i think if they wanted to add a classic shadow they could maybe state that the time eater could also travel dimensions and maybe pull an alternate dimension type shadow that resembles a classic shadow out of that dimension into the normal dimension (could also maybe help fix that "is classic sonic from the past or a different dimension?") or maybe black doom could be the one changing/pulling "classic shadow" out of a different dimension (or maybe he can already do things like that idk tbh) i feel like that would be the only way they would integrate a classic shadow into the cannon. and if you see this i love your videos btw!

I really don’t like the idea that Shadow wasn’t created by Gerald, it completely ruins the symbolism of SA2 with real and artificial beings and it also just would hurt Gerald’s character the way you propose it in my opinion Edit: I did like the video though I just really do not think Shadow’s origin needs to be expanded that way! think my headcanon is that Shadow in SXS Generations is actually Shadow from the present (as alluded to w/Terminalmontage's video. assuming SEGA has direct mandates on rep+speciffic things shown). Battle was placed after Shadow the Hedgehog's game which kinda makes sense. i think Shadow is going to be somewhat of a living paradox where one version of himself was absolutely hunted down by GUN, or his timeline was slightly different. Black Doom has the ability to utilize chaos control (to an extent) as well as telepathy+arguably telekinesis). i think one timeline Black Doom would've just done his thing but Gerald *doesn't* learn of the fact that there are 7 chaos emeralds and instead incubates his DNA inside himself and Maria, before creating Shadow. (maybe Gerald thought he could generate Familial antibodies to Maria's disease?. then when that failed, incubated Maria, then Shadow?) in this original timeline, Shadow does whatever upto around Shadow the Hedgehog where stuff goes off the rails. where all his allies turns on him when Black Doom reveals that he preserved both Gerald and Maria's souls as psycho-conscious simulacrums within himself. Shadow goes full Klingon and eliminates Black Doom, assimilating his form into himself+cultivating some new powers. he becomes aware of the Doom hivemind and discovers the Time Eater; which'd be retconned to be a somewhat-formed psionic death scream of a previous King (think Ant queens), which he breached into blank space. he then tampers with an alternate timeline where he instead mindjacks (or subliminally suggest to) Black Doom that he'd expect the 7 chaos emeralds in 50 years and to use his DNA to create shadow himself. this leads to the timeline where Adventure 2 happens and Shadow presumably dies, only to lead up to Heroes. After Episode 1 of the animation released, my theory. timeline progresses until sometime after Forces or even possibly after Frontiers (if the murder of sonic the hedgehog reference in TM's video was allowed by Sega?), the Time Eater pulls in the present shadow into blank space, to use his own Gerald/Maria to tempt Shadow into finding out who he is, and possibly in the attempt to overwhelm him and steal his body. Shadow having PSTD memories+questioning events occurring similar was actually the Alternate Black Doom/Shadow affecting his mind with the events how he saw it. when Emerl escaped, the speakers mentioned multiple subjects breached containment (Chaos drone clones?): it may not mean much. maybe it was the Alternate Shadow defending himself from GUN as a mild callback to Omega taking down Shadow in a bad future of 06 (when in the original timeline, only a small coalition of soldiers approached Gerald for stuff he worked on, in which he gave them the Gizoid...that he purposely reprogrammed something of a Soul in (based on Maria's, was written in Battle), to dial down its destructive impulses as well as its weapon abilities.). the Alternate Shadow lived past those 50 years alone until the black comet reappeared. Frontiers Retcon ideas: Sonic using the Fake Emerald to use Chaos Control was a lucky shot, since Knuckles had the master emerald on him in shards, coincidentally attracting him like a beacon. the Gizoid would've originally been created as a way to cultivate a biomechanical force to defend against The End's forces on the Starfall Islands, or may have been created as an attempt to stave off species extinction (leaving the Koco inhabiting their charms), the Master Emerald was teleported away with a small clan of Ancients to what'd eventually become Angel Island, they eventually devolved into Chao. the Gizoid becomes an OOPart (out of place artifact), being used in countless wars (usually changing alliegences to whoever has the most power/tech), until Pachamarac stormed the master emerald altar and awakened Chaos. when Tikal sealed away Chaos, it also reset and deactivated the Gizoid, leaving it to sit until Gerald found it. Tikal may have also levitated the island itself as secondry protection. Black Doom gained Sapience, once the previous Doom clan leader was sealed in digital space, becoming The End, since "There always needs to be a Lich King" (or the Someone Has to Do It trope.) i think the endgame/secret character is going to be Shadow Prime surviving+usurping black doom. and leaving canisters of ooze for our Shadow to find. Alternate Shadow either wanted to assimilate, or self-terminate. Our Shadow will reject Alternate Shadow's offering of his version of Gerald & Maria. he'll end the game by saying Sayonara Shadow the Hedgehog.

I really do hope they take the hub world concept and just keep further refining it. I really liked it in Frontiers, and just wish the cyberspace levels were a more cohesive fit with hub world instead of feeling like you'd been teleported into an entire different game. Having a hub world is one of my own reasons why, much as I love SA2, I've always liked SA better. SA2 abandoned the connective tissue between the levels and just made it, effectively, fast travel. Too far in the 'let's streamline the gameplay' direction imo. I'd like to see a future all-new Sonic game take an approach like a combination of SA and Mario Sunshine, with lots more exploration in the hub world but with more meaningful collectibles à la Frontiers and Mario Odyssey (and Mario Sunshine again). That's why I loved the second Frontiers update so much, the new Koco and music collectibles brought some of that. Sonic in a big open space with no time limit or explicit singular goal is fun, I want more of it. Frontiers just had too much space without enough of it being super interesting or having interesting rewards for exploration.

Doesnt Gerald's Journal mention about how he explored the StarFall islands before? Wouldn't him taking Shadow as an escort make sense then if Gerald went after Shadow's creation. Shadow could have been on the islands decades before Sonic and co ever appeared there. Gerald had mentioned that he had to look for ways to use the power Black Doom wanted against him so in the research of creating the Eclipse Cannon, he might have discovered the weapons of the islands that used Chaos energy to power them as inspiration to create his own. Hell, the Eclipse Cannon might be a copy of one of the weapons he found.

It's a shame that the only platform you can still get the Episode Shadow DLC is on PC... Sure it might have been a built in prelude to Forces, but it makes way more sense than the no explanation as to how there was a delay between the Phantom Ruby showing up and Classic Sonic popping out in front of Tails.

I think shadow just won't remember what he sees in frontiers and Forces, it would be like a ben 10 thing, in alien force young ben meets future ben but future Ben doesn't remembers the events happening until after it's over, usually the soda bro affects would be put into play causing a timeline split but because of the nature of these events Young Ben just forgets, only having a faint shadow of a memory.

I'm almost 100% positive that this Shadow in Generations is a post-frontiers era Shadow. His adventure though is in a similar time void that Sonic Generations Sonic was in meaning technically Shadow Gens takes place at the same time as Sonic.

I mean it's all timetravel right? How do we know this Shadow in Gens isn't the one from the future that DOES know about these events. In the base story for Gens the Time Eater whipped out all of time, It's only with Sonic and his memories and speed that is restoring time to the world. Hell Silver is a boss in the base game and by the logic of the lore, he should NOT be there.

So the thing about Chaos Island is you can see the volcano erupting. Which is what happens after sonic completes that pinball “puzzle”. So that means Shadow is sent there during Frontiers.

I feel like the mystery character slot could be Emerl. He was shown off in Dark Beginnings, and it'd be unsatisfying for him to only show up there.

The Chaos Island level cannot play before Forces due to the Death egg robot is already on it. You can see it in the Doom ability trailer.

This isn’t an original idea, but I’d like to bring up the fact that since the Time Eater can pull from any point in history, it’s entirely possible that this can be Shadow from the present. Just because the game takes place at the same time as Sonic’s campaign doesn’t mean that they’re from the same time period (Silver being the best example).

Well considering there is no classic shadow cause a classic shadow does not exist. He never appeared in the classic games so there is no classic shadow. Not to mention they’re just younger versions of the characters that appeared in the classic games. I would say movie Shadow would be the mystery character we see on the Japanese website but it is still marked off. So with movie Shadow just being part of the extra level dlc, I’m more inclined to believe that the mystery character we get to play as is(and here me out on this) Maria. I kinda makes sense considering she shows up in white space. But those are just my thoughts here.

Although I would except the idea that shadow could’ve been a separate person before being abducted and experimented upon, if they were going to do a classic shadow, I think I would prefer it if they want the route that because of time travel nonsense shadow was released from his incubator, and as he was (for a lack of better comparisons) an early birth, meaning that he would naturally be shorter and stubbier. And you can even justify that he wouldn’t be able to talk since he is fresh out of the lab and would probably only understand a few basic words. Alternatively, just go the Multiverse route and say he’s from a universe for things are a little bit different. You could have them from the universe where sonic is our rabbit for all I care and I would buy the idea that he in that universe is a lot shorter.

Here's a bit of a fun detail! During one of the shots of Chaos Island in the trailer, you can see the volcano in the background exploding. In Sonic Frontiers, the volcano only explodes after Sonic has completed the pinball level! This potentially means that Sonic *is* present during Shadows time on the island, just out of view.

One wishful head cannon I've wondered about, concerns how much time passed between Shadow escaping the Ark, and being captured by GUN. And if during that time, could Shadow have perhaps hooked up with a lady hedgehog 50 years ago, and could he possibly be Sonic's grandfather? It would explain where Sonic got his powers from.

A quick correction for 5:25 is this: The difference in appearance between Classic Sonic and Modern Sonic in Sonic Generations is purely for our benefit as external players. Tails has a hard time telling the two Sonic's apart and both Sonics even think they're looking in a mirror when looking at each other through glass, revealing to us that although they look different to us they are actually canonically close to identical. They aren't quite exactly identical as there are examples such as Amy being able to tell that Classic Sonic looks a bit younger, but she still doesn't see such a drastic difference as to realize it's Sonic from the past she's talking to and not the same Sonic she's used to. Additionally, I don't think this is Shadow from the same timeframe as Sonic who's going on this adventure, but rather Shadow from after the events of Frontiers. The Time Eater being able to send him to locations and events that have not yet occurred for Sonic shows that it has access to the future, so why couldn't it also snatch up Shadow from the future as well? This could also be a working explanation for the rival fight if it doesn't show up on Shadow's side of the story. Sonic's rival fight was against the Shadow of his present, while Shadow's actual adventure happens to him much later after Frontiers has already transpired, but sends him to the same timeframe within the White Space that Sonic went on his adventure. Regarding the second playable character in Shadow Generations, I have two leading hypothesis going on in my head right now, which I will call "Hypothesis A" and "Hypothesis B". They are as follows: Hypothesis A - Character Slot 1 is occupied by Shadow from after the events of Frontiers and Character Slot 2 is occupied by Shadow from during the events of Sonic Generations. Slot 1 Shadow is the one who is gaining the new Doom powers while Slot 2 Shadow will primarily use pre-established Chaos powers such as Chaos Control and Chaos Spear. Hypothesis B - Character Slot 1 is occupied by Shadow from after the events of Frontiers and Character Slot 2 is occupied by Shadow from 50 years ago on the Ark. My reasoning for this one is less to do with gameplay and more to do with story. Both of the Shadow's in this case would be tempted to change history and rescue Maria. Present Shadow might be forced to make peace with Maria's fate and allow the events to transpire as they were always meant to, even if it's hard. Past Shadow on the other hand might view these events as a future he can change, and eventually turn against his future self in an attempt to rescue his only friend and change her fate. For the sake of protecting the entire timeline Present Shadow would be forced to subdue his past self and perhaps even erase all memory of these events from him to avoid a time paradox and ensure his own continued existence, even knowing that he's dooming that version of himself to endure all the same loss and pain and turmoil he went through.

Shadow is "Classic Shadow" the dude is over 50 years old. He's has had the "modern" look for literal decades before other characters were born with the classic look.

This is a longshot and I don't think they'd be able to pull it off... But imagine if Shadow is thrown into the events leading up to Sonic Forces. After all, in their first encounter, Shadow barely acknowledged Infinite pre-Phantom Ruby and kicked his rear end painfully easy. Maybe that wasn't the future Shadow in that cutscene... But Generations Shadow having jumped forward in time and taking out his frustrations on a to him unknown opponent?
