I became an atheist after reading Mahatma Phule's Gulaamgiri in early 2019. Kanhaiya Kumar had spoken about it in his speech in Maharashtra... Before that I had read Bhagat Singh's Why I am an atheist... But it was from a Marxist lens. It's a nice essay for an argument. Its rational too. But an ideology has to break some cultural myth also... Phule's Gulaamgiri was a real challenge to the myths and superiority of Hinduism.
God has to be seen for to believe is not the right question. The question should be why we are here and what our purpose. why are there so many fine tuning, how everything grows by following the laws of entropy and many mores. people need to ask right philosophical question. The problem with athiesm is that it can have a profound negative impact on people just like false education from religion can have a profound negative impact such as caste system based on work has a profound negative impact on people.
The main problem with religion is that it holds power....poltical , social , economical etc..... I have no problem with religion if they don't hold power......
Please bring a woman speaker on this topic . It would be very interesting to see how woman view god or absence of it . And how do they navigate their daily life in a patriarchal society .
Adding more from a woman atheist point of view: I've met many practical, rational women who still end up doing rituals. I used to be one of them. For me, the reason was that I was a people pleaser. Society and movies conditioned me to behave in a certain way, and every other woman around me did the same. I didn't know any other way. It took me years to see and accept that religion is pointless in my life and can be replaced with friendships, community, and freedom.
So how did your parents reacted to this? Do they even know or you just pretend to follow it infront of them? I dont have the guts to tell this to my parents 😅
No problem in its like a protocol ,,,i did all thats in course of respect to others culture,,,but they still bully me as a non religious. Bcs they know this man is anti religion,,,i know its take time to dismantle the concious level brainwashing ,,,it will took around 2 generation more as i expect .according to a other research it will took around 120 year, we are in the first phase ,still there are 2 more phase 😂😂😂😂
Two of my favourite creators in conversation. Pure bliss! Also, seeing Naagraj, Super Commando Dhruv, Doga(?), posters on Vimoh's wall is another trip down the memory lane! Keep doing what you guys are doing! India needs people like you, especially in these times! 💜
24:00 It's because we have a cultural history of Women Gaining Power and Agency through God, e.g. Meera bai, Muktabai, Ammaiyar, Andal, and politicians understand this now and manipulating us in the same way in the name of God.
About ladies becoming too ritualistic, it's effect of the K-Series drama where working woman is villain and ghungat wali sanskari Bahu is ideal. It's seeped in so much that ladies in Maharashtra started doing karwa chauth and South Indian marriages hosts mehendi/Sangeet. This cultural project is on for quiet some time.
Not true. K series came much later. Women in all families are the ones who are forced to be religious. The onus of being religious is always on the women on the house. Men of the house can go out and behave as modern as they want. In most Indian households who are vegetarian you will mostly find that the son goes out to eat non veg and it is the women who have to remain vegetarian to maintain purity of the house.
If you believe Buddhism cannot lead to violence, please take a look at Myanmar where Buddhist monks give genocidal sermons and speeches. What do you think led to the Rohingya genocide?
@14:44 .. Do you know if God exist, if you don't why do you believe it? ....@14:50 .....but there came be possibility कि किसी दिन दिख गया अरे भाई, अगर दिख गया तो भी उसको पहचानोगे कैसे कि यही god हैं? इससे पहले तुमने उसे देखा नहीं, तुम उसको जानते नहीं तो पहली मुलाकात में पहचाने को फिर तो हिंदी फिल्म वाला "जनम जनम का रिश्ता" होगा तो हि possible हैं, 😁😁😁
Religion is about having control it is actually not way of life it is about controlling one' s life , women tend to be more religious than men because she is the one who has to do everything in a home from puja to all household duties even there are maids she is the one who is responsible to see that work is done by the maids she faces that as a daughter and daughter in law and when she becomes mother and mother in law she imposes same on daughter and daughter in law.A religious person is considered sanskari who follows the orders without questioning
The point u mentioned about Dr Dawkins applies to Harris as well (jew culture priviliges), but this is my perception based on debates so I cannot claim it to be true. The global culture that ur talking about exists in US, its called unitarian church where there are believers as well as non believers too. Personally I've not been there bcoz I am not in need of such community. I grew up in a superstitious Hindu family (even though we were supposed to be Buddhist). It took me age 12 (poverty in slums make u belief in an entity in sky so desperately)to start questioning God perse (having trained to pray God's of all religion's, no distinction in my mind), it took me age 16 to completely stop believing in God. Thereafter, exploration was for confirmation bias, but as learning grew from medicine, zoology to physics and social Sciences it was no more for confirmation bias, it was for better understanding of nature. My wife an iranian born and grew up in an Islamic society but a sort of Atheist family, grew up as Atheist, we met online and today living in boston do not follow any religion. We do have an Ambedkarite( and iranian too) community here in which majority members are Buddhist but many are still Hindu, a clear cut tag less is my family. My 4 year old son's name is so much scientific that no one will ever ask him his religion...just kidding. I do agree with you that India has gender differences when it comes to not believing God and not following religious rituals. I also faced a little bit especially after my dad's death, they ( my family) tried emotional blackmailing w.r.t offering of "naivedya" to crows, I did not budge and still is criticized for it. My family is a pseudo ambedkarite/Buddhist and with their inferiority complexes always try to align with the majority higher caste Hindu community and do express their anti Muslim mindset many times. The point here is that it could have been an easy Atheist journey for me if they had practiced Buddhism, immediately after they accepted the religion, but survival in a majoritarian Hindu society, made my Atheism journey a bit complicated.
Okay first of all you should write a book on your journey in life if you haven't. Also really appreciate your self awareness. That is the goal for me as an atheist too.
Lets assume you born im 1000 AD. All the available evidences at that time suggests earth is the center of Universe. What you call it? You know that earth is the center or you believe?
dude, middle class & below should question re|gon first, because unki life tab bi jhand hi hoti he har din maatha tekne ke baad bhi... BIGGEST RED FLAG to wahi he
At 32 Vimohi tells that he never recalled god in exams , in moral science we read the quote god helps those who help themselves actually makes no sense just like saying Anuraag helps those who help themselves
May i know about the group of women atheist vimoh was talking about???? coming from an islamic background i do relate with the challenges comes with being a women atheist that vimoh said. I would like to join this group.
Agar mai atheist hun.. To mai dharm ko chhod deti hu par kya tyohaar chhode ja sakte hain... Kaise chhod du.. Unme khushi hai positivity hai... Sabse important baat festival is reason for togetherness. Bengalees are foodie... Bengali foodie proverb is...... Dhorme nei prosad e aachi... Means puja path me nahi hu par prasad khane se parhej nahi... Mera sawal hai jab mai atheist hu par durga puja me enjoy krti hu... To isko kaise justify karu
Atheism means a lack of belief in God that's start and end of it's meaning it's not religion to tell you how to live your life In fact you're already atheist 😂😂
yaar india mein kahaan nahi hai ek gendered perspective?! ghar, politics, office, sadak pe, scientific research, sabh jaga ek gendered expectation and treatment mein difference toh hai. zahir hai religion and/or lack of religion mein bhi hoga
Mujhhe ye lag rha h ki Atheist bhi ek dharm h matlab aap ka koi dharm nhi h aur aise kai log mil jaye to unhe kha jayega Atheist matb unka ek alag hi dharm ke brabr hi soch h alg darnaye h Matlab Atheist bhi ek dharm Mai hu to sahi kare please
Lol privileged is a such a overabused word by today's internet intellectual In that sense belonging to a family and having kith kin is a privilege, being on the internet is a privilege, knowing English is another one Would @vimoh leave it? Ofc not then why would a atheist who believes in hindu rituals leave it?
I guess u have narrowed down the word privilege or misinterpreted his intention. It must not be seen only from one lens like a woman , but their economic status, educational status, caste status, or in a society where we live in.
Why do you want to wipe out or reduce the value of religion? Buddha Dharma is based on dhamma, acting with Niti. If Niti makes a good human then why do you want to reduce the value.
Bhai, jab tumhe koi rukawat nahi aa rahi hai to live as per your choice, why do you have a problem with believers trying to validate their belief through labs, archaeology, or honest, curious research? It is a fundamental human right to do so, and you are going to the extent of fighting it, as your life's purpose. So, who's the dogmatic/intolerant one here?
Dude scientist were at that time ,also believed in women and non whites being inferior ,lack scientific temperament. Look at Thomas Edison and tesla's views on women or gallillio.
These two guys are so obsessed in their own small world and are ignorant about reality.. They think that to know about reality is so cheap that God would appear in front of them as evidence. Infact instead, at least rationally take steps to explore about it. Don't limit sanatan dharma only upto what in general common hindu puts it or perceive it. Sanatan dharma is very rational. Don't consider that you only is the one who is intellectual because you are not as you keep restricting the need for God to get marks or fear drives religion. You just keep picking illogical versions of dharma and just putting it forward as your argument.
@@vikramaditya47_ For your kind info. there are various kinds of Hinduism. I am the student of the one that comes from authentic guru parampara and based in scriptures like bhagavat gita and srimad bhagvat.
@@vikramaditya47_ well ok, but again you are just picking one of the thoughts/perspective of sanatan dharma. Advait is vast, very vast but still incomplete or a step towards complete picture. There is also dvait, vishisht dvait, achintya bhed abhed. Again none is wrong but its gradual progression from advait to achintya bhed abheda. Coming to the point bhakti yoga is best and complete as confirmed in bhagavat gita and srimadbhagavatam.

What exactly this "practicing atheism" its not a religion guys. Don't put us in same category. Me being athiest struggled a lot to not practice anything.
