I never understood Reagan's deal, he hated the government but he was the damn president. That is like if Bill Gates hated computers.

I’m not gonna lie I use to be one of these right wing, prepper type people. And honestly I really feel sorry for these people! This isn’t just a hobby, this turns into a whole lifestyle that robs you from living in and enjoying the present moment. I was radicalized through RU-vid. It started off with watching sermons, then to prophecy interpretations, and because I was always really into “gear” (military surplus stuff) I got into the whole prepping lifestyle. This whole thing is a racket that starts off preying on people’s genuine beliefs and fears and fleeces them out of all of their money! And when you look at the actual theology it’s completely inconsistent (if you’re a believer and going to be raptured before all these events take place, then why are you worried about it?) Thank God I was also brought back to reality by RU-vid as well! I would watch a lot of really heavy and emotionally/mentally taxing video. And one day a “last week tonight” video showed up in my feed and I laughed my ass off! It was a nice change from everything that I was watching. The thing that totally changed my view on everything was the emergence of Qanon. When he posted that Hillary Clinton was about to be arrested in October of 2017 and it didn’t happen I knew it was BS. (I never discounted anything that had a specific date right away until the date had passed) I was also so saturated in this theory and that theory, and I was going through some personal struggles too at the time that I just had to walk away from it all to catch my breath. I became totally apolitical and honestly didn’t care what happened. My marriage was falling apart and I was distracting myself with work and other activities that kept me out of the house so I didn’t have to deal with the fact that my life was not how I envisioned it would be. Then Covid hit and my dad died in the first wave of it in April of 2020. It through me in a tailspin that I’m only starting to pull myself out of. I’m still a Christian although I don’t know how well I’d be welcomed into the community. And I still have family members that are completely wrapped up in all this nonsense. I wish I was able to reach them but after feeling like I’ve been dooped I have no patience for the lies anymore. I’m also seen as a traitor and that I’m destined for hell. But I know that it is possible to come out of this worldview. To those of you who have family wrapped up in this belief I wish I could give you some pointers, but I can’t. All that I can say is that there is hope. If you’ve read this far, thank you for listening to me and my ramblings. I guess I just wanted someone to talk to…And I hope that I was able to at least provide a bit of hope. God bless you and your loved ones!

This is fabulous! I have an ex-husband who was losing his mind and after we divorced in 1997 he started prepping for the end of the world to be in Y2K-year 2000. He scared our teenage children so badly. He had a plan to take them out to his mother's 5 acres and live in the woods. He buried water, rice, beans, set out various motion cameras in and outside his house....he is still crazy.

My prep is simply self reliance, I learn science and learn wilderness camp techniques, scrap technology and flora. Nothing too crazy, if there's no surface then there's gonna be no life anyway. But on the other hand a bunker just sounds like a savage man cave.

This is a decidedly upper middle class phenomenon, in most cases. Hard to be a prepper if you live in an apartment with no disposable income. The prepper anxiety is very tied up with a sense of economic tension... if the social order falls you want insurance that you'll get to keep the stuff you've "won" under capitalism.

Prepping for bad scenarios is not such a ridiculous ideas. After my family lost power for 2 weeks from a hurricane we bought a generator and started keeping general long term supplies and it has come in handy many times

This Christian obsession about the end of the world that's been going on for over 2000 years is not helping anything.

I can tell you I was in the hurricane on Long Island and it was like the apocalypse. We didn’t have power for 16 days. People walked around in blankets with gas cans. One guy was almost shot by police as he was cheating at the gas station and filling up barrels of gas and moving them to a truck next door. The cop made him bring them all back except for two and people siphoned gas out of them. He lost the money. The cop wasn’t joking he had his gun drawn at one point. It was really bad. We lived out of my SUV the entire two weeks for heat and recharging our devices. I was already on vacation from work, a hospital, but we’d go there to shower and get a meal here and there. Our refrigerator became a science experiment lol. 7/11 was still open and got their atm working so we ate mainly at 7/11 and the hospital for the two weeks. I learned to prep after this. I got a generator. I got prepped. I said it would never happen again.

Honestly, I don't fear being unprepared in the event of a global collapse nearly as much as being overprepared in the event of one never occurring.

Prepping is not necessarily bad... my parents and grandparents were raised in the depression era... we lived on a few acres with a huge garden, apple trees, pear trees, cherry trees, etc. My father even hunted and fished. I was very fortunate to grow up in a very stable middle class life, but with the foundation of that mindset of when your kids are hungry, you need to do whatever you need to do to feed them, save for a rainy day, etc. The greatest benefit of this mindset is that I was raised eating good food and passing on the importance of healthy eating to the next generation.

prepping is not ridiculous if you have the money for it and this is important to make sure nothing happens because no bunker would last much in those situations and no point living alone in bunkers while others. . . You get that! this is luxury
