We moved from the U.S. a month ago and love the Netherlands! This has been the least stressful move ever. You feel like this country has your back. I’ve never felt more relaxed or supported in my life. We don’t foresee leaving either. Everything just works here compared to where we came from. Our next project is learning Dutch!
Congrats, and finally a blog that says Amsterdam is overrated for tourists! There are so many beautiful other cities like Utrecht, Haarlem, Leiden, Delft, Maastricht, Groningen and many more.
Say something bad about Amsterdam and you will make a lot of people outside of the city happy. Whatever the truth, tourists will make up their own minds where to go. By the way, if you want to find people who think the city is overrated, you'll find zillions of them by a simple Google search, as you will find zillions of people who'll say that Paris is overrated, and Berlin, and Rome, and any other tourist hub you can think of. That's the price any place that is a popular tourist destination has to pay. So be it.
Amsterdam is a beautiful city not over rated but over crowded with tourist. And yes there is more then amsterdam but not over rated . One of the most beautiful cities in this world❤
I tune in every now and then, but it’s really cool that you show off the Netherlands and not just Amsterdam. Given how small the country is a lot of people don’t appreciate how well connected everything is they never explore further than the Randstad.

@@zjweele13 Er zijn zeker problemen in Nederland wat betreft geloof en huidskleur, maar ga daar eens over nadenken! Zijn we daar niet allemaal, zowel hun kant als onze kant niet fout in geweest? Ik ga zeker niet alles goed praten, maar even eeen voorbeeld. Een hele goeie vriend van mij is begin jaren 90 als politiekvluchteling als 9 jarig jochie uit Iran naar Nederland gekomen. Irak (Sadam Hoesein) had op hun familie een bedrag geplakt! De vader was een een hoog aangeschreven tandarts in Iran, moest eerst inburgeren, watt logisch is, maar moest daarna een beroep kiezen om te volgen voor zijn toekomst, van een lager niveau (met alle respect) hij kon kiezen uit de bouw sector en dat soort opleidingen. Na 20 jaar heeft hij zich aangemeld voor toetsing en opleiding tandarts, het vak waar zijn hart ligt, maar nee kwam er niet door, zijn denk niveau in Nederland werd te laag geschat, terwijl tandartsen zeggen, waar hij dagje mee mocht lopen (7 totaal), hij is goed opgeleid en leergierig, verstaat zijn vak (moest wel bijscholen wat logisch is), maar waarom dit dan weer tegenhouden, want die stomme kut opleiding is niet alleen tandarts, maar bijvoorbeeld ook je talen vaardigheid! Zoals Engels, waarop hij gezakt is, kan hij dan niet werken in een praktijk met enkel Nederlandse cliënten of Nederlands talige cliënten? Ik zeg niet dat alles zo gaat, maar als je goedwillende mensen met verstand van een beroep zo gaat weren en ze ongelukkig maakt in een sector waar ze het eigenlijk niet naar hun zin hebben, moet jee ook niet raar opkijken dat het gaat botsen.

Great news guys! Nice to hear you love living here. Buying a house will be a very tough challenge. Real estate prices have gone through the roof lately. Living close to Amsterdam, I fully agree Amsterdam is not the best city to visit, although it has its hidden gems.
Go visit the old Hanze cities on the IJssel, Doesburg, Zutphen, Deventer, Zwolle, Kampen. Mediëval cities that have been lovely restored. In Zutphen there is the Librije, the oldest public library in the world and very special. Books are on chains. Looks like a scene from a movie like name of the rose

Being nude at nude beach/resort/whatever is whole different world. there is just your mindset and your body and everything and anything you make out of it.
Amsterdam-Zuid and Amsterdam-Centrum outside of the Tourist area around Amsterdam CS are beautiful to go for a long walk on a warm sunny day in May or September. But I agree that the Rokin on a rainy day in November is rather miserable.
Congrats on at least another 5 years! I really enjoy both canals and would hate to see you guys leave. You two have a chemistry that is fun and touches the heart! I'm hungry for way more of your adventures.

As a Dutchy, i love to watch your channel and truely discover some things i never knew about my own country. About what you told about Amsterdam.. I was born and raised in Amsterdam (south-east side and North) but i left Amsterdam and moved to Deventer 12 years ago with my girlfriend who is from Groningen. Amsterdam was once a nice city but i don't enjoy it anymore to visit. To many tourists and tourists shops, bars etc. The last time i visited the city is 3 years ago and i left that day after one hour of shopping. I got really angry for the fact i needed to talk English in 3 of the 5 shops i visited because they didn't speak any Dutch. It offended me that i can't be helped in my own language in my 'own town'. Sure for the tourists it's a blessing, but for a local it almost feels like discriminating.. Enjoy your next 2 years of the Netherlands and hope you find a nice house in a nice place!

If for housings you need long-distance travel by public transport but you don't have a set job to attend to, I can recommend both Meppel and Den Helder. Both do have a train station and are decent towns in and of themselves, but fairly cheap because they're not positioned great for regular commuters. Den Helder is in a bit of an economic slump though, Meppel's booming.
Funny to see this video, because i always was wondering how long will they stay? NL is a small country and after a certain time you have seen the most of it. But nice that you like it a lot here and want to stay! 👍

Buy a small japanese car. There is sooo much of NLD you cannot reach by PT. You could get there, just see some parts, and that's it, time is up. With a car it's just easier, quicker, more direct, and you get to see more. Roads here are amazing you could showcase that too. Toyota Aygo or something like that come in AT... Just a tip.
A second channel, Toe Maar. Visit islands all over the world, nice weather, relaxed sightseeing. Did you know that you can visit, for cheap, the island of Dord? Yep, Dord has an island too.Going there on a nice sunny day, perhaps.
In the city of Raalte we have a weekly buttermarket in the summer months (jul-aug) and they sell a local speciality Kruudmoes. If tou think rolmops is the worst thing you coukd take to the USA, try kruudmoes.
Great that you decided to stay. I made that choice 34 years ago and Ive never regretted it. I also love that you have dared leave Amsterdam and explore other places for me its always been Fryslan..
Congratulations on the renewal of your permit!! Looking forward to more food and travel videos. About the public transport: it may seem great here, but you have to realize it's not that great everywhere in The Netherlands. Personally, I hate PT here and I've travelled a lot by bus, train, tram and metro (subway). To really get around, you need a car. Doesn't have to be a big one. Maybe in the future, when house hunting has been succesfull. Tip: look for places where you don't need a parking permit and has good public transport.
CONGRATS - and it was an easy process for you, which for me it was not. I'd holidayed here with my Dutch BF first in October 1998 while teaching in Russia under an educator exchange program through my American university. Then I came to stay permanently at the turn of this century, searching for teaching jobs which ended in yearly contracts. At the time my residency permit extension was denied due to substandard income as a contracted freelancer. So, I had to hire an immigration lawyer to be able to work and remain in the Netherlands while my status was in protest. It was five years later and us marrying inbetween that enabled me to finally establish permanent residency and citizenship. So, again, congratulations - and I'm happy you got to explore my lovely sea province. I also work a lot in Amsterdam and agree that it's overrated. To me some of the more lovely and less touristed cities are Utrecht and Haarlem. I'd choose to live there if not already grounded several years now in Zeeland. Happy house hunting!
