Are we related? Intriguing Korea vs Tamil Nadu similarities

There is a word spoken in the Indian state of Tamil Nadu that is also used in Korea, despite being 5,000 kilometers apart from one another.
How did India and Korea come to share a word that is pronounced identically and has the same meaning?
It is said that words of Tamil origin may have been brought to Korea by Heo Hwang-ok, a queen of Indian origin who became the wife of King Suro after arriving in the ancient Korean kingdom of Gaya by boat.
We began searching for other similarities between these two cultures.
**The content of the video is based on Dr. Hari's personal view. Theories may vary among scholars and linguists.

@@notmyname1880 you people deserve kudos.but I always think Sanskrit and tamil has tough fight. I know that Kaushalya subrabhatham chant in played in temples and in shops and houses by people and is a Sanskrit chant. And so many mystic things are in Sanskrit. And it matches with tamil. Whatever god you worshipped was done by people who spoke Sanskrit. And yeah sanskrit isn't spoken at all (it's alive though)but tamil is spoken widely but not in pure form. I always have doubt of this because lord Shiva gave his knowledge to Agastya muni and he spread the knowledge and for lord Shiva there is a city in North and so on. And before thousands of years india and other places were one big country. so yes what originated in that country was retained in india as it broke off from Africa and joined with Asia.

Some of the other similarities between Tamils and Koreans are Food & Dishes: 1) Pongal - Yaksik 2) Oorukai - Kimchi 3) Pidi Kozhukattai - Songpyeon 4) Oputtu - Hotteok Art, Music, Games: 1) Ariro Ararariro - Arirang (Sung as lullabies for babies) 2) Kummi - Ganggangsulle 3) ila vatakal - deuldol deulgi Traditions: 1) Tamil Traditions - Korean Shamanism Traditions (Similar) 2) Manivizha - Hwangap 3) Nadukal - Koindol Women, Fashion, Beauty: 1) Pottu - yeongjigonji 2) Nethi Chutti - Jokduri 3) Poo jadai - Dodeurak Daengii Other Similarities: 1) Twin Fish Symbol (Ancient Pandiya kingdom Flag - Korea Twin Fish symbols) 2) Woman Diving Mermaids - Jeju - Rameshwaram 3) Linguistic similarities - writing system, grammar, similar pronounciations, nuances and meaning. Although these are just a few among a lot of other similarities, the two cultures and people have definitely been connected since ancient times when we look at the striking similarities which would only be possible by close ties and cultural exchanges.

The linguistic and cultural similarities between Korea and India's Tamil region have recently become a hot topic by Indians from Tamil staying in Korea a few years ago. Studies by linguists show that there are more than a hundred similar words in two languages. There are also many similarities in food and culture. As a Korean, I knew the legend that the king of Gaya(one of Korea's ancient kingdoms) married a princess from across the distant sea 2,000 years ago. However, I thought it was simply an oral story, but the linguistic and cultural similarities between the two regions are amazing. Each culture seems to influence each other. Perhaps so, I am sometimes surprised by the connection between countries and ethnic groups geographically far away from Korea. About 2,000 years ago, Goguryeo (the ancient kingdom of Korea) and ancient Turkey were neighboring allies and kept China's Tang Dynasty in check at the time. In addition, Dangun (the founding king of Gojoseon, Korea's first country) is deeply related to Kazakhstan located in Central Asia. The world seems to be wide and narrow. Finally, in Korea, the structural similarities between Myanmar and Tibetan and Korean, the similarity of Korean culture with Myojok(a minority ethnic group in China) and the similarity between traditional culture and Korean culture with Okinawa, Japan, have become topics.

The Queen mother was from Ayuta from TamilNadu India where King Pandian was having Fish symbol in their flag Ayuth is a Tamil name referred in our literature. We need to re think about birth place of Queen mother. Tamil alone were sea farers in those days. Suri Ratna is also a Tamil name. Tamils were trading in precious stones. Ratna means precious stone. Kindly refer to ancient Tamil history.

I was obsessed with Korean movies. It was year 2014. And after watching a few movies. I felt that their sur (rhythm) sounds similar to one of the South Indian languages. The similarities were so much that I had to search on google and I realized that there was a Tamilian princess who was married to Korea king. She took around 1000 servants with her to Korean. I was surprised to know. Finally, I realized that somebody noticed this. May be Tamilian people and koreans won't sense this similarity, but being a North Indian, I just focused on rhythm, sur and audio waves. It's strikingly similar for a layman like me..

Most of those English words aren't from Tamil though. "One" and "eight" are Indo-European numbers and are hence more closely related to Sanskrit than Tamil. (And say, French or German as well, but that's pretty obvious). Stuff like "victory", "terra" and "script" are obviously from Latin. "Speech", "snake" and "wagon" are all Germanic in origin (compare German "sprache", "schnecke" and "wagen", although "schnecke" means snail instead). With the exception of a few direct loanwords (eg. catamaran" and "mango"), none of those words are related to each other. And மூலக்கூறு, if anything, was borrowed _into_ Tamil from English, not the other way round.

Dravidian and Prakrit languages evolved from Tamil. The Vedic language is based on the Pali and Prakrit languages. Then Sanskrit was formed along with Tamil along with Vedic language. The Brahmi script is based on the Tamil script. Sanskrit grammar is based on Tamil grammar.

I am a Malayalee and was introduced to the Kdrama world just last year. I am a bit observant while doing everything, not to boast. As I was binge watching dramas I noticed a lot of words that wear so similar to Malayalam as well. And I was like "What the hell", how can two cultures share so much similarities. Later this year, I watched the video about a South Indian Queen (from today tamil geographical area) marrying a King in Korea, that is when everything made perfect sense. Malayalam is also considered to be evolved either from a western dialect of Tamil or from the branch of Proto-Dravidian from which modern Tamil also evolved.

We use to play country conquiring game we call it as naadu pudikira game. We draw a square and divided into equal parts depends upon players count usually 4 members do play. They choose their country name as green, yellow, red, blue like that. They have to choose who is going to be the chaser by putting inky pinky ponky.. There are many small small songs like inky pinky ponky in tamil. So finally we chose the chaser. The chaser has to stand in his box with eyes closed and count 1,2,3 and suddenly has to turn and open his eyes. The remaining players has to run away from their corresponding box to far away in that small duration. Now the chaser has stick with him. The stick should be about 15 cm long. He can stand wherever in his box and has to throw the stick to whoever he wants to throw. If he hits the person correctly with the stick, he can conquer that person's country by drawing a line with that stick starts from the chaser's country and ends to his country which would be like a semi circle. The conquering place length depends upon the chaser's hand length. But he should stand in his country and can conquer looser's country. He can write his country name eg. Green in that conquered place. Now the loser will be the chaser now. Like this we would play in our childhood days. I saw this game in run bts episode a year before.. Bts played a game like what I mentioned above. I'm from tamilnadu.. Till now my grannys call me as aaye only.. It's like a affectionate word to call our beloved children.

@@nidk5742 Ah I see. I looked it up. Looks like that's the map of the Gaya kingdom of India (where the story in the video is from). That's why it's different from the map of modern India.

All Kim clan have 100% Hindu Brahmin DNA from India. This is why Korean girls can blush when shy like the docile Tamil girls in Bharat today. The real ancient faith of all Koreans and entire South East Asia was Sanatan Dharma and the same is the reason for similarity in the two languages. Tamil is one of the oldest languages of the world. Chatrapati Samrat Vikramaditya Maharaja, ancient King of Bharat ruled the entire planet 7000 years ago, when there was only one faith across the globe....Sanatan Dharma.

Tamil words can be found even in the tribal of Australian aboriginals, tribal s in central African countries, even amoung tribals in Amazon, Brazil. After all, Tamil is official language in Singapore, Malaysia and Srilanka too. But not in India, where it is originated. We Love Tamil 🌹

I don't know why they think that the similarities in the word for dad is weird when there's also Apa in some Turkish based languages, Apá in Spanish, Abba in Hebrew and even Pa in colloquial English. The other similarities are interesting though
