Inflation has completely stopped me from buying designer luxury brands all together. I prefer contemporary and second hand bags now. More affordable options now days.

I used to think that owning a luxury bag was a non-existent part of my life, until *hotdups* told me that I was actually very close to it. Fashion sense does not only come from the brand, but also from personal matching and attitude.

As much as I love the look of LV canvas especially checker print Damier ebene, I stop purchasing them because prices increases when I can buy better quality leather goods or even gold. But I think I'm at this stage of my life where I want to carry low key luxury bags 👝 so I don't make myself a target 😅

I do think that some of the seasonal/newer pieces look tacky, but these classic canvas pieces will always have a special place in my heart because the DE slg's were my first luxury purchases after undergrad. Even now owning Chanel, Loewe, YSL, Celine slg's and bags, I still have the desire to use my lv canvas pieces ❤ I guess they're classics for a reason

Me too! Vintage LV canvas is so much better. I bought my two bags before the ridiculous price increases (a new Neverfull MM in 2016 at the LV store and a vintage Chantilly PM 2020 at a consignment shop). The canvas and vachetta of both bags are still in excellent condition. I still think the LV canvas is timeless and I use them on a regular basis. 🤗

When I went to Paris 15 years ago, I bought an epi leather mini men’s wallet for my husband as a souvenir. I also had it monogrammed. He uses it everyday and it is the only wallet he uses. It is still in good condition. I thought it was the best gift ever. On the other hand, I own multiple LV wallets in different sizes. I also bought myself a wallet along with my husband’s gift. I used it for about a year at most. I kind of regret getting it since I didn’t use it as much. The point I am trying to say is that women usually don’t use the life out of these luxury items. It becomes a waste of money and waste of storage. Whereas most men, they tend to use the life out of these luxury items. It feels a lot more justifiable to spend $600 on an item they use so much. Let’s be honest ladies, most of us won’t be settled with one or two bags/items. If you have the disposable income then buy a few as an art collection for whatever reason but don’t get addicted.

I only got into LV in my forties, after twenty years of being a mostly Chanel and Balenciaga girl. Then, I fell in love with canvas, the very same I snubbed because 'it's not even real leather'. I have curated my collection and sold 35 luxury bags (mostly classics, Dior, Gucci, Fendi, Céline and Balenciaga of course). I now only want seven bags, no more, no less, it's the perfect number for me. I kept a black classic flap, a new Gucci Jackie and an Hermès bag. The other four are LV canvas. I wanted to buy something this summer because I had sold my last (beautiful but unused) Baguette. Thought, for sure, I should get a Chanel from the pre-loved market, as the prices are currently so good. Looked for three months and my only thought was always 'in two months, these corners will be trash'. That's because I love to use every bag I have frequently. Life's too short to save bags for a good occasion. In the end?? I bought an On The Go PM in canvas from the store for the same price and I'm ECSTATIC. I hate the strap but wear it with my other monogram straps. Put all my stuff in a pouch so it's safe, and not I have a super durable, so beautiful, versatile bag that goes from day to night. No Chanel could ever give me that currently. LV monogram has some sort of magic (mainly because it looks good for decades). I really tried to diversify, but there's a reason I returned to canvas.

My luxury journey started with passion to Lv, and its quality and stitching. Then I became luxury authenticator and worked and have seen a lot of luxury through all the years. Now after x2-3 price increases and “dancing” ugly stitching I am shocking myself with a decision to go for vintage only, or even good fakes now! I changed my mind so seriously on that during last year. I still own many high end things. And …I am open to get an aaa copy. Because it is just a bag! No way an investment 😂 Health, personal style and wellbeing, mental stability and good teeth, relationships matters so much more and affects our life quality so much more, then slaving to some selfish brands.

I was working mostly for European market, and started so long ago, when no apps or courses were available. There were maybe a few videos on RU-vid, very few photos of fake vs real on internet. Fun times - market was less saturated, and quality was on point. Later on I took courses from the consignment company I worked for. But most of the time when started I was researching myself all the little details, differences in decades, learning code stamps by heart , studying brands of zippers for luxury, amount of stitching on each detail, texture, packaging collections, quality of leather and colour shades of finishing. Plus I always had advanced knowledge of couture sewing techniques, technology of high end garment making - that helped. Plus wearing luxury and experiencing its touch, texture, weight, flavour was contributing. Plus intuition always talks immediately, if to listen. Fun times)

I just started getting into LV. I wish I started sooner because of price increases, but I have a list of the canvas pieces I want and once I’m done getting “the basics” I’ll keep my eye on special collections. I’ve been watching a lot of RU-vid videos to do my research before purchasing and most are from 4-5 yrs ago. I think that the pieces will last for decades so people have already made their videos and moved on. The leather pieces can be close in price to canvas so I debate getting those but there’s something about having everything matching in the DE or monogram canvas that is so appealing!

I think it’s a combination of things. I feel like a lot of people sharing on socail media sharing already bought the entry level canvas items they want so they aren’t focusing on them. I’ve been an LV lover for many decades. I started my LV collection in the early 1980’s & 1990’s. What I know for sure is that quality has definitely changed over the years. My handbags that are over 30 & 40 years old are still holding up compared to newer purchases. The canvas is definitely thinner and the piping isn’t staying in tact. I’ve been very selective with the pieces I’ve been buying lately; I purchase more when I travel internationally to help tolerate the inflation in prices.

I purchased my first LV item in 2019. I monogram Speedy B25. Now, I have all the classic "basic" LV pieces I want (except- Nice mini vanity case). I have three Speedy(s) two 30s (ebene/monogram); one 25B. All my SLG pieces are in monogram. I have (two) six ring key (one I gifted to my granddaughter); a mini pouchette, a couple of small wallets,(one I gifted to same grand daughter and one I use daily) a PM and GM Agenda, also a toiletry 15 and a PM cosmetic case. Lastly I have cherry coin pouch (which I don't use); otherwise, I use all my SLGS everyday. In terms of handbags & SLGs, once I have my Nice mini there's nothing more I plan to purchase from LV . I also have a collection of LV fragrance which I LOVE - I'll refill those as I finish each bottle. I feel that my Louis Vuitton collection is complete. I'm currently focused on Hermes. I continue to use all my LV SLGs inside my Hermes bags. No desire to switch to Hermes SLGs.

I'd say 15-17 years ago, I wanted every style of LV Monogram purses and bought all kinds of accessories (different size agendas, doggie bag, carry all, luggage, etc.) but now, I am so put off after it became so saturated with teenagers owning these bags and the multicolors coming out. Although the price may keep increasing, it no longer feels like a luxury item. I've also lost a number of these small bags over the years so for toiletteries and what not, I just opt for non-designer.

I bought a speedyb 25 new in 2020. Two years ago I bought a pre loved speedy 35, year 2000. I can 100 percent say the quality is night and day. The canvas is soooo much thicker on the 35 it’s unreal. Even the hardware is better. I barely carry the speedy b and the hardware is already scratched. When I say I barely carry it, I’ve had it four years and have carried it less than ten times. I recently purchased a graceful mm in Azure new and an azure wallet, and the only reason why is it’s so hard to find azure in good condition because of the color transfer. Other than that print, I 100 percent recommend the preloved/vintage market. As long as the canvas is in great condition you’re good to go. If the Vachetta is a little eh you can get that redone. It’ll be vintage, glossy, and beautiful 😀

I purchased my never full when it first came out maybe 2005-2006 for probably $700. I can't justify the price to many of those items now. My mini pouchette was purchased in Hawaii in 2006 for about $200- 250. I love the items I own, I am saving them all for my daughter who is currently 9. I just feel prices now while they're worth it for many other bags I don't see them worth it for canvas pieces. I am putting my money towards leather pieces such as Loewe and Bottega. I do have to say, I am happy almost all my classic canvas monogram items I have from LV were all purchased in early 2000's.

The vachetta strap on the newer Speedy feels thin and disappointing. So yes, people still buy them and personally, I always feel great when I carry either. The only bags I am tempted by now are the colored Speedy's which are out of my league and the navy blue pochette metis. Its not in my budget now but it is on my bucket list and I am hoping to buy it used in excellent condition. Great video.

I maybe the exception to the rule here but I actually JUST started loving LV monogram and canvas so I’m still very much buying. When I was younger, I’ve always been interested in LV but did NOT like the monogram look. I started with Epi Leather. My oldest bag is over 20 years old and it’s the Pont Neuf bag. My second oldest LV is a limited edition empriente leather Neverfull with a special print that you could only get in St. Tropez. So that was pretty much my vibe-I started with leather and the more limited edition ones. Now that I’m older (I’m 43), I’ve only just started appreciating the monogram and canvas. So I’m like the opposite. But now I’ve collected a few monogram pieces The last year or so and I think that’s enough for me. I want to go back to more limited edition prints, still canvas. I also just want to say that I’m also such a fan of LV right now because I know people don’t like it as much so for me, it’s not as mainstream as before. And I’ve had so many wonderful experiences shopping from different boutiques all over the world and in different parts of France and all the SAs have been wonderful. So I’m still a fan overall.

I think there are a combination of factors. 1. Inflation is putting a lot of strain on high mid class income families who in the past would have spare funds for splurging but don’t anymore. 2. Price increases have been a bit ridiculous and the preloved market go by current retail prices rather than what they actually paid for the items. 3. During the pandemic when we were all stuck at home with some spare cash which otherwise would have been spent on outings and travel, was then spent on these luxury items.

These classics are easy to purchase pre-loved. I wouldn’t pay retail for that reason. I did purchase the DUYP kirigami set to try out, and I also only use the small one. Owning it doesn’t make me want the LV version but I’m glad I didn’t spend 800 on the set to realize I only like one piece!

I started my love for luxury prior to pandemic and bought quite a few during pandemic. I would say yes, i have most of the basics for LV such as Neverfull in Damier Azure, Pochette Accessories in Monogram, Key pouch in DE, Speedy 25 Bandouliere in DE, Graceful PM, DE Odeon PM (which both Graceful and Odeon they have stop producing). Recently i bought a canvas cosmetic pouch in PM size but that is because i love the Flight Mode print which are all sold out but i managed to get it at last. I still do buy canvas and am interested in the Trio Toiletry Pouch but since you mentioned that the canvas are very flimsy, i will think twice. I am also still interested in the Speedy 20 in DE but the price really holds me back and even more so i had seen that increased twice since it was released. May just give up buying them. Will see. I think many have slow down since times are still bad with all time high inflation and this applies to me too. I do buy but will be very selective and will think thru very thoroughly.

I still have a handful of canvas pieces I’d still like to add to my collection but the price increases have made me pause for now. I recently bought my first pochette accessories in the cerises Murakami 2005 collection from the preloved market at a great price and it’s become one of my most used pieces. So maybe I’ll stick to preloved moving forward. I’m sad I started my collection so late in life 😂 but I’m also very content with what I have and I really don’t need anything else. Sorry, a random ramble of reasons 😂 still love your chatty LV videos with lots of eye candy ❤

I’m only buying the Christmas mini pochettes as I collect them - but preloved as they’re super discounted on the preloved websites. The full price retail is just way too much. Almost $1,000 USD if you include taxes. Just the other day I found a brand new Christmas 2023 mini pochette on EBay for $450 USD (including taxes and shipping it was $550 USD). Compared to $815 USD retail

@@crtygerfly I have been a collector for almost 5 years now and I know what the authentic should feel and look like. I have over 30 pieces of LV from the boutique that I compare all my preloved pieces with. Generally I would say that Yoogi’s closet, fashionphile, rebag, luxedujour can be trusted. I’ve purchased from all of them and I can verify that they were authentic when comparing them to my other pieces purchased directly from LV

Besides, me myself are pretty young and i wasn't purchasing pre price increases. Therefore i've never "known" anything else than the prices today, so i don't see an issue with the high pricepoint.

Loved this video! I watched/listened to it while watering the lawn this morning 😆 so interesting, I used to be a collector but now I’m thinking of selling pieces I don’t use. Almost all of my items are preloved because I love the older quality and older designs (like the multicolore Murakami) and lately, LV’s new designs aren’t fun or anything I’d want to collect. The economy and inflation are a big factor these days too. Basic needs are more expensive so why would I pay for something that’s more expensive and the quality is worse 😅

My first Neverfull was a Mother’s Day gift from the baby while I was still pregnant 😊and it predates coming with the pouch. However despite being 15 years old, it is still like new, and I use it for travel, it’s even been a diaper bag before, it has been to the beach , you name it. I know this is not you at all or your vibe and more relates to the terms used in social media but I really hate the term entry level for luxury items. That implies somehow that we need to continue to escalate purchasing, go on some luxury journey or a myriad of other excessive consumerist/status implications. Vs just buying a practical bag that will be loved and well used. These are classic carryforward (recurring) pieces. Last month I bought a preloved speedy bandolier 25 ebene from a resale shop in Honolulu, Ecotown. I likely would not have purchase new from LV. However I also bought the new pochette accessoires from LV directly but cringed at the price. I absolutely knew I would use it a ton though and I have so I don’t have any regrets. I paired it with longer straps that it unfortunately doesn’t come with (just two short straps). I use it with my ebene long crossbody strap from my old Eva or with a mono/black bandolier strap. When I went to buy it I tried some more expensive and newer styles but ended up realizing it was really the one that would work but it needed to be a crossbody, not a shoulder or hand carry. I do think the price is way too high. I honestly don’t think it should be over a $1K but in today’s market that seems ridiculous but one can say everyone’s canvas prices are ridiculous. I would still buy the 6 key holder if needed but probably not the mini pochette and single key pouch at the current prices. The 6 key is just such a staple item for me because it can hold cards and also can slide the keys out for mini bags or wallet on straps. I’ve never had an interest in the toiletry pouches. I have two neverfulls but don’t use them as much but they come in handy when I do. I would NOT buy new for LV at the current prices though. I’d probably go for an MCM Liz instead. Or I’d consider a different style tote altogether. The attractive thing about the Neverfull was its simplicity, practicality and price. A great basic tote. At the higher price I don’t feel the same about it but do appreciate the ones I already own (ebene MM and a vintage mono GM). One thing to note is that at the current prices, Celine is much more attractive to me in comparison. I have the small crossbody Boston bag and also the horizontal cabas tote (the latter purchased at Celine just last week as I prepare to return to work). I just love the canvas print with the tan handles. Can’t stand new untreated LV vachetta and generally avoid it.

SLGs are the only items I buy from LV, very durable and easy to use. Would buy at current price if I need something new and I know would serve a long term purpose. I don't buy their larger monogram bag (too showy imo), or leather bags (there are nicer design at the same price point).

I’ve always dreamed of getting a speedy specifically the damier ebene one you have but the prices have made it hard to justify. I’ve recently started getting into luxury, but it’s not a great time to enter. I also find myself spending money on other contemporary brands that make me happy with great quality pieces. So I think the price has really kept me away as well as the recent quality issues around LV. I’d still love to have more LV in my collection so the desire for me is still there.

You can definitely find a Speedy in Damier Ebene in excellent condition well under current retail if you’re willing to hunt on the preloved/secondhand market. Especially because Damier Ebene comes with treated leather (not vachetta) you wouldn’t have to worry about obvious signs of wear from the previous owner.

Interestingly, I mostly still like the bags that have been released 10 years ago; the new collections just really don’t catch my eye and seem so repetitive and more expensive than the original bag (best example is the pochette Métis vs pochette Métis east west)

My last brand new piece I purchased from the LV website was back during COVID lockdown. I ended up selling every single piece I owned during 2023 and have no regrets. I believe it's a number of reasons why people aren't feeling the brand anymore. Quality tanked years ago, prices are absolutely insane and people have been struggling financially and need the money for much more important things just to name a few. I actually struggled to sell all of my LV pieces when before COVID I would have had most sold in 2 days. I had like new pieces sitting in my Posh closet for hundreds under retail price for months with little to no interest from buyers. That told me right there to get away from the brand and not look back. These days I'm all about Coach retail and of course I still love YSL. My 2 most recent Coach purchases over the past 2-3 months were the quilted Tabby 20 and 26. Such beautiful well made leather bags that don't break the bank. I'm never going back to spending thousands on plastic/canvas, I'm done with that.

I just have so much canvas bags in all the prints, and I am guilty of amassing the trifectas of the SLGS (at least) of the pochettes, mini pochettes, animations, passport holders and cles. I just have enough now, too much in fact,, like how many can a person possibly need or use? it's excessive. I am shifting to mid luxury, smaller known brands. I'm not selling it off bc I won't ever replace at current pricing/ quality.
